Kia America Sets New Sales Record Through April 2026

Kia America established a new year-to-date sales record through April 2026, with 279,718 vehicles sold in the first four months of the year. This represents a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. While April 2026 sales reached 72,703 units, this reflected a 3% year-over-year variance due to particularly high demand experienced in April 2025. The company's sustained growth was primarily driven by its expanding lineup of electrified models and popular sport utility vehicles.

Strong Performance in Electrified and SUV Segments

Kia's electrified vehicle sales demonstrated significant momentum, setting new records for both April and year-to-date performance. Hybrid sales in April increased by 97%, contributing to a 71% rise in total electrified sales for the month. For the year-to-date period, hybrid sales grew by 81%, and overall electrified sales saw a 41% increase.

Several key models contributed to this strong showing. The EV9 experienced a substantial 481% increase in April sales, with 1,349 units sold, and the EV6 saw an 11% rise, selling 728 units. These figures highlight the growing consumer interest in Kia's electric vehicle offerings.

In the SUV segment, the Telluride achieved its highest April sales total in its history, up 16% compared to April 2025. The Sportage Hybrid's sales surged by 112% in April, while the Sorento Hybrid recorded a 34% increase. The K4 also saw a modest 1% rise in April sales, indicating broad strength across the product line for Kia sales April 2026.

Key Models Drive Year-to-Date Growth

The positive trend extended to year-to-date sales for several models. Six Kia models achieved best-ever April year-to-date sales records. The Sportage Hybrid led with a 117% increase, followed by the Telluride at 19%, and the Carnival at 16%. The Sportage internal combustion engine (ICE) model saw a 5% increase, while the Sorento Hybrid grew by 7%, and the K4 by 1%.

Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations for Kia America, noted that achieving these sales milestones in a challenging market reflects the company's ability to adapt to evolving customer preferences for SUVs and hybrid vehicles. He also highlighted the upcoming 2027 Telluride, which will feature its first available hybrid powertrain, alongside the recent introductions of the Seltos and EV3 models.

In an effort to expand electric vehicle infrastructure, IONNA, a charging network established by eight major automakers including Kia, announced a partnership with Circle K. This collaboration aims to significantly increase access to high-powered EV charging stations across the United States, supporting the broader adoption of electric vehicles.
