Acura Seeks First GTP Victory at Road America Endurance Race

Acura aims to secure its initial IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP class victory at Road America, a goal it has pursued since the class debuted in 2023. The manufacturer will field two hybrid-powered Acura ARX-06 machines in the upcoming six-hour SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix, scheduled for Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the historic Wisconsin circuit. This extended race format presents a new challenge for the Acura Road America GTP race effort.

Acura's Lineup for the Six-Hour Race

Acura Meyer Shank Racing will campaign two hybrid-powered Acura ARX-06 prototypes in the SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix. The #60 car will be driven by Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun, a duo that previously secured a second-place finish at Road America in 2023. Their experience will be crucial in navigating the longer race distance.

The sister #93 Acura ARX-06 will feature Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly. This pairing recently achieved a podium finish at another six-hour event at Watkins Glen. Historical Performance at Road America

Acura has a history of success at Road America, though a GTP class win has remained elusive since 2023. The brand's most recent victory at the circuit occurred in 2022, when Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque drove the Acura ARX-05 to the top step of the podium. Taylor also achieved a win with Acura at Road America in 2020, partnered with Helio Castroneves.

Prior to the GTP era, Acura secured multiple wins in various categories. The brand's first victory at Road America dates back to 1993, with Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin winning the Camel Lights class in their Comptech Racing Acura Spice SE92P. Additional successes followed in American Le Mans Series competition, including LMP2 class wins in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013, as well as overall/LMP1 victories in 2009 and 2013. In both 2024 and last year's two-hour and 40-minute Road America events, Acura cars started from pole position and finished third.
