Audi A6 Allroad Adds Quattro Ultra AWD and PHEV Option
The 2026 Audi A6 allroad is now available with quattro ultra all-wheel drive, offering improved efficiency and dynamic handling. For the first time, a plug-in hybrid variant joins the lineup, alongside the V6 TDI with MHEV plus technology, at European dealerships.

The 2026 Audi A6 allroad is now available at European dealerships, introducing quattro ultra all-wheel drive technology and a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant. This update aims to combine the benefits of all-wheel drive with enhanced efficiency across the model range.
Enhanced Drivetrain Technology
The Audi A6 allroad now features the quattro ultra all-wheel drive system, which is designed to provide both traction and improved fuel efficiency. This system operates by predictively engaging all-wheel drive when needed and decoupling the rear axle when not, effectively allowing the vehicle to operate in front-wheel drive mode to reduce friction and drag.
Key to the quattro ultra system are two clutches: an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch at the transmission output and a decoupling clutch in the rear axle differential. When all-wheel drive is not required, both clutches open, temporarily disconnecting the driveshaft and rear drivetrain components. This transition is imperceptible to the driver, according to Rouven Mohr, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG.
The system's intelligent control continuously monitors driving dynamics, road conditions, and driver behavior, anticipating the need for all-wheel drive approximately 0.5 seconds in advance. Full engagement, including synchronization of components, takes about 200 milliseconds, ensuring all-wheel drive is active before wheel slip occurs during dynamic driving or on low-friction surfaces. Up to 70 percent of torque can be sent to the rear wheels under hard acceleration on dry roads.
New Powertrain Options and Availability
Alongside the existing 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine, which incorporates MHEV plus technology and an electrically powered compressor, the A6 allroad is now offered as a plug-in hybrid for the first time. This expansion provides consumers with electrified options designed for both performance and reduced emissions.
The 2026 Audi A6 allroad models are currently available at Audi dealerships in Europe. Pricing for the six-cylinder diesel variant starts at €77,250, while the new plug-in hybrid model begins at €80,250.
Evolution of Audi's Quattro System
Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive technology has been a core brand element since its introduction in 1980, with over 15.6 million quattro-equipped vehicles produced to date. The quattro ultra system represents a significant evolution, first appearing in the Audi A4 allroad quattro in 2016.
This efficiency-optimized all-wheel-drive system is also utilized in other Audi models built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), including the Audi A5 and Audi Q5. The integration of quattro ultra into the A6 allroad continues Audi's development of all-wheel-drive systems that balance dynamic capability with environmental considerations.
The introduction of quattro ultra technology and a plug-in hybrid option for the Audi A6 allroad aims to offer consumers a more versatile and efficient vehicle without compromising the brand's established all-wheel-drive performance. These updates reflect Audi's ongoing strategy to integrate advanced drivetrain solutions into its lineup.
