This bulletin, ID-23-03 Rev. I, issued on March 12, 2025, by FCA Caribbean, details important revisions to the corrosion warranty claim process for specific Jeep models. It specifically addresses paint repairs and replacement claims for the 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler (JL) and 2021-2024 Jeep Gladiator (JT) vehicles. The bulletin aims to simplify the process for both dealers and customers, particularly concerning the Jeep Wrangler corrosion warranty and Gladiator corrosion warranty.

The revisions include adding 2024 model year vehicles to the scope, updating the Collision Service Bulletin number, and adjusting labor time and material allowances for new repair procedures. These changes are effective for repairs completed on or after August 13, 2024.

Important Changes for Corrosion Warranty Claims

For 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler (JL) and 2021-2024 Jeep Gladiator (JT) vehicles that are currently covered by an active corrosion warranty, the requirement for Vehicle Digital Imaging (VDI) pre-approval has been eliminated. This also means that measurement requirements and the Repair vs Replace worksheet are no longer needed for claim support.

Handling Filiform Corrosion After Warranty Expiration

Important Warning: Vehicles beyond 6 years in service are NOT eligible for corrosion warranty. For customers who identify filiform corrosion concerns after their corrosion warranty has expired, the process depends on whether they have valid documentation of the concern from when the warranty was active.

  • With Valid Documentation: If a customer has valid documentation (e.g., Repair Order, Customer Care Case #, or an email to the Business Center) describing the corrosion concern from within the warranty period, the repair is likely to be completed without a copay. Dealers must attain a copy of this documentation, submit a pre-authorization request via the VDI process (emailing [email protected] with the subject "VIN and Dealer Code" if necessary), and submit a Warranty Goodwill Grid. Once VDI is authorized and the Goodwill Grid is accepted, parts can be ordered and the warranty claim submitted. If the claim is submitted more than 90 days after VDI approval, a narrative explaining the prior approval must be added.
  • Without Valid Documentation: If the customer does not have valid documentation of the corrosion concern prior to the warranty expiration, they will be responsible for a portion of the repair cost as outlined by the Warranty Goodwill Grid. In this case, the warranty claim should be submitted with "PA" in the authorization field.

Key Repair Process Updates

New Labor Operations (LOPs) have been developed to streamline the claim and estimating process for individual panel repairs and replacements. These LOPs cover painting, de-trimming, repair, blending, and seam sealer removal/installation. Notably, repairs utilizing these new LOPs do not require pre-approval. All other repairs must continue to follow Warranty Bulletin ID-20-21 Rev. A.

A redesigned hinge has been introduced for these vehicles to address corrosion issues. These hinges MUST be replaced as a set (upper and lower per component) to prevent visual mismatches. Do not replace the hinges on the other doors if no signs of corrosion is found. For more information, refer to Technical Service Bulletin 23-020-23.

To ensure all affected areas are addressed, a quality inspection of all hinge mounting areas and panel seams should be completed during the service visit. Any panel showing corrosion should be repaired. Collision Service Bulletin 31-001-24 provides an inspection process and criteria for panel replacement.

Specific Repair Scenarios

  • Pitting after sanding: If pitting is found after sanding the affected area (as shown in Figure 1 of the original bulletin), use LOP 23-75-XX-XX for up to 0.5 hours in conjunction with the 23-85 replacement LOP.
  • Corrosion on panel seam: If corrosion is found on the seam of a panel (as shown in Figure 2 of the original bulletin), the door shell will be replaced. No additional sanding in the hinge or seam area is supported. The repair allowance within bundled LOPs covers repairing either both hinge areas or corrosion on panel edges/bottoms. If corrosion is found in both areas, the panel should be replaced.

Claim Processing Details

Dealers will no longer submit panel repairs as a sublet claim when completed by a third-party body shop. All parts and labor should be entered as a traditional repair. Claims should be submitted as a normal Warranty (W) claim with the following information:

  • Technician ID: "none"
  • Part(s) and materials: MATL
  • Labor: New Labor Operations only
  • RA attachments
    • Sublet invoice must be submitted and retained in the dealer's file.
    • If the sublet bill is less than the claim amount, adjust the claim total in the "adjustment field" in Claim Entry.
    • "Photos of the affected area and the Placard" are required. The VIN is no longer required on the photo of the affected area (Figure 3). A photo of the placard (located on the driver's door) showing the VIN and Paint Code is necessary (Figure 4).

Non-reimbursable items include hazardous material disposal fees, shop supplies, pre/post scans, cleaning/waxing/sanitizing supplies, protective covers/storage bags, fitting/aligning panels, resetting electronics/memory functions, de-nib/polish, disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, upgraded anti-corrosion/paint protection, body shop administrative fees, towing/storage fees, and additional labor/parts/services not supported by the Collision Service Bulletin.
