2022-2023 Jeep Wrangler Engine Ticking Noise TSB

Stellantis has issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 09-015-24 to address customer concerns regarding an abnormal engine ticking noise. This TSB, dated June 26, 2024, provides information for technicians diagnosing and repairing vehicles experiencing this condition.

This TSB 09-015-24 supersedes a previous bulletin, TSB 09-009-23 REV. D, which was issued on May 20, 2023. All revisions in the current bulletin are highlighted with asterisks, and it includes a note about the cancellation of a Rapid Service Update (RSU).

Notably, this Technical Service Bulletin has also been released as Rapid Service Update (RSU) 23-131, with an issue date of May 09, 2023. Applicable RSU VINs have been loaded into the system, and technicians can verify service action applicability using VIP or a VIN search in DealerCONNECT/Service Library. All repairs performed under this guidance are reimbursable within the provisions of warranty.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may notice an "Engine makes an abnormal ticking noise." This noise originates from the "Noise From Engine Area." In some cases, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may also be present, indicating potential underlying issues related to the engine ticking noise.

Important Warnings

Stellantis has provided a critical note for this bulletin:

• "This proactive service action no longer in effect. Please follow published service procedures in Service Library to diagnose and repair the vehicle."

This means that while the TSB provides information about the issue, the specific service action it once outlined is no longer active. Technicians are directed to use general, up-to-date service information for diagnosis and repair.

Detailed Vehicle Applicability

This bulletin specifically applies to the following vehicles based on their build dates and engine configurations:

• RU, JL, JT, DT, WL, and WD vehicles: These include models such as the Chrysler Pacifica, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator, Ram 1500 Pickup, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Dodge Durango. The affected vehicles were built on or after June 03, 2022 (MDH 0603XX) and on or before April 08, 2023 (MDH 0408XX). They must be equipped with one of the following 3.6L V6 engines:
  • 3.6L V6 VVT Engine Upgrade 1 (Sales Code ERC)
  • 3.6L V6 24V VVT E torque Engine (Sales Code ERG)
  • 3.6L V6 PHEV Hybrid Engine (Sales Code EH3)
• VF vehicles: This applies to the Ram ProMaster. These vehicles were built on or after June 03, 2022 (MDH 0603XX) and on or before April 8, 2023 (MDH 0408XX). They must be equipped with the 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine (Sales Code ERF).

Diagnosis and Repair

As stated in the TSB, the specific service action outlined in this document is no longer applicable.
