"Error: Airbag" periodically comes on, goes off at random times. Seems to be an issue with the Passenger Occupancy Detection System Module. Nothing spilled to make this module not work properly. With this error on, it turns off the airbag for the passenger. This has been confirmed by the dealer. This error appeared without warning or incident at ~45K miles on the car.

I bought the Volkswagen ID4 on lease from one of the Volkswagen dealer Dick Hannah based out of Portland, OR. It's 4 year lease, paying $760/month. I have received many recalls from Volkswagen, one of them was door handle and lock issue. I have complained to Volkswagen that door get open while i am driving the car and this needs to be fixed, they have said to me that, they do not have any parts to fix this and placed me in queue from last 4 months. I am not able to drive the car where i am paying $40K on lease payments in 4 years. This is really a safety concern where i do not take my kids into car and not driving much. I tried to call Volkswagen and ask them to cancel lease, they have asked me to pay remaining months payment which is $18K. I am not able to cancel lease, not able to drive, and they are not able to fix. I would request federal govt to have strict rules for auto makes outside of USA and have some penalty to pay to customers if they have recall. They send so many recalls, than what is use of buying new cars and paying them huge money, there should be some amount to pay to customer if there are recalls. This is safety concern to US Citizens and me.

On March 26, 2024 the VW Id.4 caught fire while being driven on freeway. The driver was able to pull over and escape from the vehicle as it burned but sustained burns to his left arm, hand and face. The vehicle was engulfed in flames and destroyed. An inspection of the vehicle and battery modules in October of 2024 by VW experts and experts for the driver determined that the fire started in one of the battery modules and was not due to external causes or road hazards. The remains of the vehicle and battery modules have been preserved.

I am filing this formal complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding a critical safety failure involving my 2024 Volkswagen ID.4. The incident, which occurred on [XXX], involved sudden and unintended acceleration while slowly parking at a Walgreens in Saco, Maine, resulting in a collision with the building. I delayed this submission until the official police report (Saco Police Crash Report #[XXX]) became available on April 21, 2025, to ensure accuracy and proper documentation. Incident Details: •Date/Time: [XXX] •Location: Walgreens Pharmacy, [XXX] •Vehicle: 2024 VW ID.4 (VIN: [XXX] ) •Conditions: daylight conditions, no contributing environmental factors. While shifting from Drive to Park with my foot fully on the brake, the vehicle surged forward twice without accelerator input. IQ Drive, Collision mitigation systems and Park Distance Control (PDC) failed to engage. All driver-assistance features were deactivated. No airbags deployed. Supporting Documentation (attached): •Saco Police Crash Report # [XXX] •Crash scene photographs Prior Warnings: •In August 2024, a powertrain warning appeared; VW service dismissed it as non-critical. •On the morning of the crash, the vehicle emitted an abnormal sound during initial startup Medical Context: At the time of the incident, I was recovering from major cardiothoracic surgery ([XXX]). Though belted, the sudden jolt near my surgical site raised post-operative risks and safety concerns. Request for Action: I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1.Investigate this incident for potential inclusion in a broader pattern of unintended acceleration in the VW ID.4 model. 2.Review related TSBs, consumer complaints, or internal manufacturer field reports. 3.Secure pre-reset data from the vehicle’s ECU and EDR. 4.Notify Volkswagen of its duty to report Thank you for your attention to this serious matter INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My car has been under a recall notice since 2024. A fix was not available until January. As soon as repairs were available, I scheduled an appointment for repair (requested 12/29/24, scheduled 2/13/25). The week of the repair, I received a call that said the dealer had not actually ordered the necessary parts and I would need to reschedule. I scheduled another service appointment on 3/18/25 for the next available date, 4/30/25. This week I received another call that yet again the dealer had not ordered the parts for repair. I have lost faith in the manufacturer's willingness to repair this defect, as two appointments scheduled rough 4 months from a request for repair have not led to them completing the warranty work. This is especially troubling as I have a small child who often rides in the car with me. In addition, I am leading the vehicle and responsible for completing recalls in a timely manner, and the dealership will not allow me to complete my responsibilities. The dealer is Royal Auto Automotive VW in San Francisco.

This car is subject to 3 recalls, the first of which is now nearly 8 months old. I can not get a dealer to address the recalls, despite repeated visits to the dealership.

I was pulling into a parking space and slowly moving forward to get to the front of the space. The car spurted forward about 2 feet with force and crashed into a cement based light standard. There was significant damage to the front end. No injuries. Airbag did not inflate. Vehicle is currently at body shop but no one has looked at the 'black box'. Geico rep and adjuster at the body shop have looked at the car. Safety was at risk due to crashing in to a solid object. Fortunately I was going slow when it accelerated and did not have enough time or space to cause injuries

I was driving at 35 mph when the front doors began unlocking and locking rapidly three times, then both front doors fell open ajar, at the same time the screen went grey with a triangle ! icon as an audile alarm went off then the drivers side curtain airbag deployed forcing the steering wheel to the right causing the vehicle to collide head on into an electric utility pole. I tried to brake but was pushed by airbag from brake pedal. I was wearing a seat belt but suffered an burn from the airbag on right inner forearm that was impression of VW logo and has resulted in lasting scar, I had modest right wrist sprain and right shin contusion, abrasion. The vehicle rolled back in the road and was towed and later totaled by insurance. The automatic braking detection nor any other airbag deployed on collision.

My 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is impacted by three separate recalls. I scheduled repair at my only local dealership. On the day of appointment, I was turned away by the dealer, stating that only one EV (electric vehicle) mechanic was employed, and he had been assigned other tasks. No reasonable accommodation was made by the dealer or manufacturer to resolve, leaving my recalls unresolved.

Charging Door Malfunction - Complaint Submission Dear Volkswagen Customer Service, My name is [XXX] . I am writing to report an issue with my vehicle's charging door, which has not been opening for the past week. I believe that the actuator may need repairs, as this problem has persisted for some time now. I have also come across several other customer complaints regarding similar issues, which raises concerns about the frequency of this problem. This situation has become a significant inconvenience for me, as I am unable to charge my car and, therefore, cannot commute to work. I would like to formally file a complaint regarding this issue and seek guidance on how to proceed with the necessary repairs. Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this issue. I look forward to your prompt response. Best regards, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

A squirrel entered my ID.4 through the right wheel well while I was at work and it began to make a nest in the front of my engine compartment. I was alerted to the problem by all of the dashboard warning lights flashing the ACC and related front safety systems. The squirrel had chewed through the harness wires down to the connectors on the 8 and 9 connectors and the 6 pin connector. I know it was a squirrel because I saw it in the engine compartment when I opened the hood and other coworkers had nests in their hood areas. No damage to thier vehicle because the critical wires were not so carelessly exposed.

(addressing the above bullets as numbered items) (1) OEM replacement windshield (after what seems to be impact damage, although there are some reports in social media about "spontaneous windshield breakage - i.e. no known impact). It is available (currently installed in vehicle) for inspection upon request. (2) Safety is currently at risk because of bad image distortion near the passenger "A-pillar". (3) Problem has been seen in a photograph by both a VW dealership, and (we've been told) by a VW "Regional Service Manager". We also scheduled and showed-up for a "Service Appointment" at the dealership, but they declined to either sit in the vehicle or go for a "test drive" to better observe this problem. (4) See (3) for mention of "inspection by photograph" by dealership. (5) Problem only appeared after replacement of the "as manufactured" windshield with that original windshield not having this problem. Windshield replacement occurred on April 4, 2025.

I purchased this vehicle on [XXX] from Sunnyvale Volkswagen and have experienced ongoing issues with the electrical system, infotainment, safety features, and OTA software updates. In early 2023, all error lights came on while driving, followed by a complete electrical system failure. The car would not restart until the next day. In 2024 and again in 2025, the center screen went completely black, disabling the rearview camera, hands-free navigation, climate control, and car settings. Restart attempts failed. On Feb 26, 2025, I accepted an OTA software update, which failed. I tried again on Feb 27. When I returned to the car later that day, the update was still running. The next day, the car would not unlock with either key. I tried the manual key over an hour and hundred times, which eventually worked, but the keys still weren’t recognized. I replaced both key batteries with new ones from the store (one key was spare hence never used), but the issue persisted. After several days of the same issue and hours of failed attempts, I was finally able to start the car and drive it to Sunnyvale VW on March 3rd. They acknowledged the issue and replaced both key batteries again with OEM ones, which temporarily resolved the problem. On March 25, I was contacted by Stevens Creek Volkswagen to address two open recalls. I scheduled an appointment for March 31 at 9am and called on March 30 to confirm. Despite the confirmation and their having a note for a loaner from the manager, I was told upon arrival—after waiting 15 minutes—that parts were unavailable and they couldn’t perform the repairs. I was told I’d be contacted when parts arrive, the same excuse I’ve heard since the recall opened a year ago. My safety recall remains unresolved. This vehicle has proven unreliable and unsafe for my family. I am requesting a full replacement of this lemon with a brand-new vehicle as soon as possible. VW failed to perform the repairs associated with recall 24V651 because the necessary parts are not available despite months of leadtime. It costs me $80 each time I bring my car in. It is currently at the dealership and they have no eta for the parts.

When in the lowest position the seat has lots of vertical play to it. This can be felt when accelerating and braking, especially when braking or accelerating hard. The seat also makes loud creaking noises in the same conditions, at random intervals. These issues have been reproduced at the dealer, but I was told "not to keep my seat in the lowest position" which is my ideal driving position for maneuvering the vehicle and having adequate view of the mirrors and outside the vehicle. The seat has not been inspected by a service technician, only the service representative in a visual manner. No physical action has been taken to remedy the problem. It is also worth noting the passenger seat does not exhibit this issue. The creaking combined with the excess movement in the seat have me concerned for my safety in the event of a crash or emergency maneuver. Should the seat come loose, I could lose control of the vehicle, putting mine, and others', safety at risk. No warning lamps, tones or other symptoms have occurred.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at a charging station, the messages "Low voltage battery fault detected" and "Main electrical fault detected" were displayed. The contact became aware that the vehicle was no longer responding to user input; however, after about an hour the vehicle returned to normal functionality. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V125000 (Electrical System); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000. The VIN was not available.

- #11651201March 27, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, VISIBILITY/WIPER
I use this car for work daily, see patients in their homes. The driver door won’t locked, for 2 consecutive days and this is not the first time incident. Whenever this happens, I notify the dealer but they said VW does not have repair/solution to it yet. So, the car’s safety features (emergency braking, lane departure assist, adaptive cruise control and etc) are not functional. This makes it dangerous for us/drivers. Because the door is unlocked and car is running, it sends signals/sounds warning the door is unlocked. It is terrifying driving the car while it’s raining. I am unsure if the car will suddenly stop. Also, the anti-fog doesn’t work unless I turn on the heater which reduces my mileage. I can barely see the road when it’s pouring rain. The car doesn’t charge to its usual 200 miles at 80% (recommended), only charging 180 miles at 90%. Hope you can help me please as I am the bread winner in the family. We do not have extra budget to get another car. Our old 2010 Prius is only good in town, not in major highways. If something happens to me due to this car’s manufacturing faults, my husband and child will be left destitute and end up homeless. Thank you for your assistance.
