I was at a red light on a busy highway. All of a sudden my car stopped working: I got a message on the dashboard along the lines of "engine power low" and "press brake hard to restart". But even if I pressed the brake hard, nothing would happen, and my car wouldn't move forward. In fact, because I was on a slight uphill, releasing the brake pedal made my car go backwards. The steering wheel also felt locked. I was panicked because the light turned green and a lot of cars were waiting behind me. I put my hazard lights on, and kept trying to press the brake hard to no avail. Finally after about a minute, I put my car in park, and turned off my car. I then restarted it, and it suddenly worked. This was a super scary experience, and very disappointing since my car is new as of two months ago.

The car turned off several times while I was stuck in traffic, it was raining an the wipers were on. This happened on Riverside Drive, NYC on 9/8/23 around 5 pm. The warning said: low steering power. There were cars behind me and could have crashed my car.

I bought a 2023 Cross in good faith the end of March 2023. I needed it as a replacement car as mine had been totaled as I was hit head on Feb. 9,2020.Then the covid long months and years hit right after and then I could find no car. When I finally found one through a dealership then I got no 1 recall and later no2 recall.I have not been able to drive it much as safety issues and it has been sitting for weeks. First why was Toyota allowed to go through Takata for the parts when years ago they were in a prior recall with this manufacturer and Takata filed for bankruptcy then. Now this is the largest recall in this recall history and we, the customers of new cars, are in a mess. I bought an extended warranty which is no good since my car is sitting, they have the 2022 Cross SUV on this recall also-why was it not taken care of before we bought new 2023 vehicles??I waited years to replace my totaled car due to no cars (new) on lots and I had many injuries and the person who hit me had nothing to even pay off my bill for injuries-just a little insurance his mother had taken out.Had I known about the problem I would have found another new SUV.Why is there no one not allowing Toyota to use this manufacturer AGAIN so we do not have to go through all this. I have been through enough physically and still have medical problems and have to go to medical facilities 5-6 hours away for problems and planned on using my Cross and have 5 upcoming trips in the weeks ahead of me. I hope there can be some changes so this never happens again to new car buyers-it also has affected my car's value. I am so disappointed and mad in the whole situation. Thank you for your time. I ordered the car in July and it arrived on 8/3/23. On 8/31/23, I got in the car while in my garage, attempted to start it as usual, and a loud sound occurred when I shifted from park to reverse. Lights began flashing. I turned off the car, got out and walked around to make sure I hadn’t hit anything. After verifying clearance all around, I checked my phone. The Toyota Corolla Cross XLE had 4 codes listed: malfunctions of: electronic control of engine, AWD system, drive-start control system, and the advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system. I restarted the car and backed out of my garage. The check engine light was still on. I backed out and tried to drive down my neighborhood street. When I steeped in the accelerator, the engine would race but not engage. Acceleration was problematic so I returned home. Later the same day, I had it towed into a local Toyota service center. After several days, they said it was “just a glitch”. They reset it and have not been able to get the codes to recur.

Purchase car 8/28 ( brand new 8 miles in it) drove it 1 time 9/1. On 9/3 the car would not start. Giving message key not detected although key was in dash. Then it said push break portal and touch engine switch with key. Still did not start. Today 9/4 same thing. Dealership Manager and technician came to my home (outstanding service ). I discovered it was not turn battery that the key was not being recognized. They said they have not had the problem with their cars but have heard about it worth this car from other dealerships. There is No fox as of yet.

The car has suddenly turn off while driving, all lights come one and does take a while to be able.to turn back on. It had happened 4 times already. Twice today while my daughter was driving on a busy street, nearly missing getting it by someone else. And the second time in the middle of an intersection today was a rainy day, and she had the automatic on/off button off. Twice before, on 2 separate days one was sunny, the day was sprinkling.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated that the automatic START/STOP feature intermittently failed to operate as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact was forced to manually place the gear shift into park(P) and restart the vehicle. The contact called the dealer and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

I was driving in the pouring rain with intermittent wipers on in bumper to bumper traffic and stopped at a red light. Car shut off, with traffic behind me and I had to put hazard lights on. Dashboard messages appeared - Low steering power light and then said to press brake and auto start button. Luckily it restarted. Second time this has happened as I had 500 miles and thought I didn't know how to operate the car since it was new. This time 2,400 miles and there was no doubt the fear I experienced was an electrical issue. Drove to Northshore Toyota, who advised no codes were stored and couldn't duplicate the issue. I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement with case # [XXX] and [XXX]. Northshore Toyota contacted field technician and said to reprogram the main computer. They will do this today. If it doesn't fix the issue, after 3 times of the dealer trying to fix it, I can go to arbitration with Toyota. Car is at dealer so I do not have a document to upload.

This has happened twice to me now. Stopped at a stop light, rainy day, the auto start/stop enabled. The car suddenly dies, all lights come on, engine off. Tells me to step on brake to restart, but it never does. Eventually after 45 sec of trying to restart the car, it eventually does after 4-5 tries.

At a stop light the car shut down on me. Immediately on the the following message appeared on the warning panel indicator : “steering power low” then “ engine stopped “ and “ Press brake firmly to restart”. I followed the instructions but it didn’t work. I had to shift the car to park to be able to start the engine again. This happened on 4 occasions. In case this is relevant, it was raining heavily throughout the entire day.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated while the vehicle was idling at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The messages "Engine Shut Off" and "Steering Power Low" were displayed, and the check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that she turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the messages and warning lights were turned off. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure needed to be duplicated to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,600.

I am writing to complain about a serious safety defect in my 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross (VIN [XXX] ). On August 11, 2023, I recently received a letter from Toyota stating that the passenger airbag in my car may not deploy as designed in the event of a crash. This is a serious safety defect, and I am concerned about the safety of my car. I have owned my Corolla Cross for in excess of a year, and I have never been in an accident. However, I am a father with two young children, and I use my car every day to take them to school and activities. I am worried about the possibility of being in a car accident, and I do not want my children to be injured because of a defect in my car. I understand that Toyota is offering to fix the airbag for free. However, I am not comfortable with having a car that has a known safety defect. I would like to request that Toyota recall my car and replace it with a new car. I believe that I am entitled to a new car, because it is not my fault that my car has a safety defect. I am a loyal Toyota customer, and I have always been satisfied with my Toyota vehicles. However, I am disappointed that Toyota has not recalled my car to fix this safety defect. I hope that the NHTSA will investigate this matter and take action to ensure that Toyota recalls my car and replaces it with a new car. Thank you for your time and consideration. It was a rainy day, the first rainy day that I drove this car in. I had my windshield wipers and headlights on, and I've always kept my auto start/stop setting on for this car. At one point within 5 minutes of my destination, I pulled up to a left turn lane at an intersection. I slowed to a stop, with my auto stop engaging (as intended). At this moment, my engine stalled, my turn lights on my dashboard shone orange nonstop, and a constant beeping sound started. On the dashboard in front of me, following message was displayed: Press brake firmly to restart engine, Low steering power. I attempted to follow the instructions and pressed the brake as firmly as I could, but the warning and long beep continued and the car would not budge. It was getting dangerous because I was in the middle of a lane and blocking traffic. After a few attempts to follow the directions, I resorted to putting the car in park and manually completely shutting off the engine, then manually starting the engine. This worked and I was able to continue driving. Though this same situation happened again the same night in the same conditions: rainy, auto stopped in a left turn lane, windshield wipers on.

I was in New York taking my boyfriend to work and was at a red light and out of nowhere the car started to beep and said the power steering was low and to press the brake to restart, nothing happened when I pressed the brake and then I received a message saying the engine turned off, the traffic light turned green and I had to put my car in neutral to park it and turn it off. I looked up what it could be for my car model and apparently A LOT of people are having this issue when the wipers are on and auto on/off is on as well which was my scenario this morning. This is a huge issue and needs to be addressed immediately by Toyota!!!

I was driving on the highway in traffic with the stop/start function active. It was raining and windshield wipers were on. They also have no!”FIX.” You show NO recall for this vehicle. Shy can’t I get a straight answer from TOYOTA as to whether it is safe to drive with a front seat passenger??????

When at a red light the steering wheel froze and the stop/ start did not work. It stated to depress the brake hard but everything was frozen. It was raining and the wipers were on when this occurred. Finally started after putting it in park and restarting the car. Had many angry cars behind me. Very unsettling.

My SUV has been jerking really bad when I accelerate it almost feels like whiplash. Every time I take it to the dealer they tell me there's nothing wrong with it. It makes this knocking sound coming from the engine and when I accelerate it doesn't pick up speed.
