This is in regards to recall number 24V-700. This recall was issued in September 2024 with a resolution set for November, then December 2024, then March 2025, and finally Spring 2025. We are now in the Summer of 2025 with no resolution yet. This recall limits the usefulness of my vehicle, and perceived value if sold due to not being able to fast charge.

Recall R24B2 / NHTSA 24V-700 affects my 2019 Nissan LEAF. I received the initial notice in Oct 2024, warning me not to use DC fast charging due to fire risk. It’s now June 2025, and Nissan has failed to provide the promised software remedy. My vehicle remains partially unusable, and no timeline has been provided. I request NHTSA investigate this delay and compel Nissan to offer timely repair or replacement.

Because of the unresolved battery problem for which a fix was promised by March 2025 the range of my vehicle is limited to the round trip distance from my house. At Highway speeds that means only 60 miles one way. If I am forced to charge at the available Highway rest stop charger I risk a fire, but I may have to do so. This is unacceptable.

Vehicle Information: Year: 2020 Make: Nissan Model: Leaf VIN: [XXX] Component: Battery/Power Train Description of Safety Issue: Since September 19, 2024, my 2020 Nissan Leaf has been under NHTSA Recall 24V-700 (Nissan ID: R24B2) due to excessive lithium deposits in battery cells, increasing electrical resistance and risking rapid battery heating during Level 3 quick charging via CHAdeMO. This could cause a battery fire. Per recall instructions, I’ve avoided Level 3 charging, but Nissan promised a remedy by March 2025, which hasn’t been provided as of June 23, 2025. This nine-month delay prevents long-distance travel due to reliance on slower charging, severely limiting my vehicle’s functionality and raising safety concerns. Incident Details: No incident, as I’ve avoided Level 3 charging. Issue affects CHAdeMO quick charging under all conditions. No aftermarket equipment involved. Supporting Documentation: Recall notice (24V-700) or dealership correspondence available upon request. Requested Action: Please investigate Nissan’s delay in resolving this recall, as it compromises vehicle safety and usability. Urge Nissan to provide a prompt remedy. Authorization: I authorize sharing my contact info with Nissan to expedite resolution. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There has been a safety recall #24V-700 for my 2019 Nissan Leaf with regards to quick-charge ports due to potential fire risk with Level 3 charging. I have been waiting almost a year for this to be resolved. I want to sell my car. I am sure the fact there is a recall will prevent me from either selling it or getting a decent amount for it. I have spoken to a dealership and was told they are still waiting on the repair.

- #11666440June 11, 2025SERVICE BRAKES
On Monday, I was departing from the supermarket parking lot. As I was waiting at the stop sign to exit the parking lot, my 2020 Nissan Leaf SV vehicle shuttered and there was a blinking notification on the dashboard stating: TM System Malfunction EPedal Failure Suddenly my ability to stop the vehicle was compromised. I turned onto the surface street and continued to pump the brakes with no response. I turned back into the supermarket parking lot and continued to pump the brakes but there was no engagement. I slowly drove around the parking lot trying to stop with no success. I eventually had to turn on the emergency brake and then force the vehicle into park. It was a very scary scenario. I called the dealership to explain the situation and the service advisor suggested that I have the vehicle towed to the dealership for a diagnostic evaluation. After sitting in the car for 30 minutes with it turned off, I turned it back on and drove the vehicle on surface streets to the dealership with no breaking incident. The next day, the service department performed a diagnostic inspection and determined that the 12 volt battery was the cause and needed to be replaced. I was relieved that this was the issue. The technician kept the vehicle one more day to drive it and be sure it was operational. In the end, I purchased a new battery. I am writing your organization to report this incident to try to avoid any injuries or deaths in the future. This incident happened to me without any warning and could have been very dangerous if I was at a busy intersection or on the freeway. There was no warning on the dashboard about the battery or maintenance warning to see the dealer. This needs to researched with Nissan Motor Company. Purchased the vehicle used in December 2024, as Nissan had a remedy expected by March 2025. It is now June, and no remedy. This has become our primary car, and I'm having to fast charge it regularily to use it as we don't have a charger available at our rental house.

- #11665950June 9, 2025AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS
After four years of owning this vehicle purchased new, the passenger side seatbelt warning light came on the dash. It indicated the seatbelt was not buckled while no one was sitting in the passenger seat. When buckled the light went out. Brought it to the attention of Nissan, Service every year when they would clear the code and it would be good for a month or two, and the light would come back on like before. Last month on May 9, I brought the vehicle in again and asked for a thorough assessment. Nissan service said to make the light go out they would have to replace two passenger side occupancy sensors, totaling $1800 parts and labor. They did not have the parts on hand, I left with the vehicle only to find out that the intermittent seatbelt light that would go out when buckled, stayed on continuous now. Also noticed the illuminated airbag light stating the airbag was off. And that was also on at all times whether someone was in the passenger seat or not. When purchasing the vehicle new we also purchased a gold preferred extended warranty, that I believed would cover these parts. But Nissan, consumer affair said the the warranty will not cover those items. After a month of trying to get Nissan, service and consumer affairs to work with me, still no help. Searching online I found Nissan, has had numerous issues and even some recalls with occupancy sensors in the seats of many vehicles. It seems to be an ongoing issue with Nissan, regarding earlier model vehicles and newer models. Thank you for your time and your help.

Manufacturer has failed to provide a remedy for recall campaign R24B2 in a timely manner. The vehicle capability is impaired as the effective range is now limited due to the inability to fast charge the vehicle. It no longer provides the same functionality. The value of the vehicle is also reduced due to the open recall, so I am unable to resell the vehicle and replace it with a comparable model.

High-voltage traction battery / propulsion system repeatedly malfunctions. First incident – Aug 2023 (~91,000 mi). Vehicle displayed “EV System No Power” with DTC P31E7. After parking, the car would not restart; I was stranded > 2 hours on a surface road until towed. Nissan dealer (Napleton St Louis) replaced a battery module under warranty and cited Nissan TSB NTB23-024 (bent retention plate in 62 kWh pack). Vehicle returned to service. Second incident – Apr 2024 (~128,000 mi). Same symptoms re-appeared: dashboard showed 200 mi remaining, but under moderate acceleration the range meter plunged to ~80 mi within seconds, but releasing the accelerator the range would go back up, but plunge again once accelerating again. the car gets less then the then half what the dash claims on a full charge, leaving me to not know what the full range truly is. Two dealerships have said I'm having the same issue as previously, except my car is not displaying the inhabitation error. Current safety concern: The vehicle’s range indicator fluctuates drastically under load (e.g., 190 → 70 → 140 miles) whenever the accelerator is pressed, suggesting instability or failure in the high-voltage battery. Because remaining range is no longer reliable, I have stopped using the vehicle for daily transportation to avoid being stranded—especially on highways where there is no safe place to pull over or access to chargers. A sudden loss of motive power at high speed creates a crash risk for both occupants and surrounding traffic.
