- #11558847December 6, 2023ENGINE, POWER TRAIN, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
On 12/5/2023, upon turn after intersection, loss of power to the engine. Pushing gas provided no response from the engine. Engine power cut to about 10 miles an hour. Felt as the car was driving on battery - as no engine was heard. Was able to pull over to the side. Turned off and on engine 2-3 times but the power wasn't restored. Received warning on dashboard that there is malfunction with engine. Also received errors on Mazda application I had on phone. Engine light was on the dashboard. Photos attached. While obtaining assistance for tow service I was accidentally disconnected. I tried turning the car on again, and engine turned on normally. Total time between last unsuccessful turning on/off engine was about 10-15 minutes. First time experience such issue with loss of power and engine cutting off/ not working. Informed the car dealership and car repair/ check was scheduled to be brought to dealership for 12/8/2023. Estimated repairs taking 4 to 5 days before I can get the car back. Distance to dealership about 150 miles. Confidence in this car severely shaken - considering the price and the fact it is brand new.

These are two major problem i want to highlight, which need immediate attention One of them is related to steering wheel, which is a major safety concern for this vehicle to be on road. 1) Major safety concern- steering wheel Steering wheel is catchy when you are driving vehicle on high speed, which make this vehicle so difficult to control/ maneuver and struggling to keep this in a lane Steering wheel catchy means- it becomes hard when you steer and then skid before finally engaged. This makes driver nervous and can lead to an accident due to wavy drive 2) Engine malfunction light alert in instrumental cluster get on. This give you no choice whether to continue with vehicle. On Nov 23rd 2023, i was travelling with my family on [XXX] from ann arbor Michigan to columbus ohio and get stuck in highway due to this suddenly popped up Currently, vehicle is with germain mazda columbus and getting diagnosed. However, they confirmed some steering wheel motor problem and they are engaged with mazda corporate. But at the time of this reporting, they have this part backlog of 5 month and will be available by April 2024 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11556548November 23, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
When using the adaptive cruise control on a multi-lane highway the system will detect trucks/larger vehicles moving into your lane on a slight curve when they are not. The system will apply brakes to avoid a collision. The first time this happened there was no vehicle moving into my lane but there was an 18-wheeler behind me that wasn't expecting my vehicle to brake and they almost rear-ended me. This happened several other times before I understood the problem and turned the system off. I have reported this to my dealer and they stated the problem couldn't be replicated. This has been reported multiple times by other CX-90 drivers on this site and Mazda will get someone injured or killed if this is not fixed. If you drive a CX-90 do not use the cruise control until this is addressed by Mazda.

The steering becomes “sticky” at highway speeds. The wheel resists turning until sufficient force is applied, and then slips to a next setting or “notch”, where it further rests until force is applied. The effect is not particularly pronounced at low speeds but very noticeable at regular highway speeds (~60 mph). No great force is required to turn the wheel from one “notch” to the next, but the resistance and continual need for readjusting course (because of the “stuck” steering wheel) are fatiguing over time.

- #11555845November 18, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
When using adaptive cruise control and you are driving on a curve, if there is a vehicle, guard rail or jersey barrier in the next lane or on the side of the road, the vehicle will brake hard thinking there’s something in front of it. It has even happened when there was a hillside next to the road. This is very dangerous on a high speed highway. It can slow down from 75 mph to 45 mph in a very short amount of time.

- #11555554November 16, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
When going into curves on interstate, car thinks its gonna hit something and slams on the brakes when cruise control is engages. When passing a semi (semi slow lane, passing in passing lane), vehicle detects something in front of it and slams on the brakes. Does this on straight stretches. Slows down extremely fast to mabye 40 mph, then floors it once it thinks the "obstacle" has disappeared and speeds back up to the set speed as fast as it can. Sometimes does it when no othwr vehicles near it on straight stretchss of highway. This is gonna cause accidens. I don't trust the adaptive cruise control feature because it does this. This isn't weather or light related. Does it all the time.

- #11555079November 14, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
When adaptive cruise control is engaged, and travelling in the left lane of a multilane highway, automatic braking frequently activates when there is a vehicle ahead in the right lane (especially, but not always, a truck) but no hazard in the lane directly ahead.

When a large object like 18wheeler is in right lane and you are in left lane the car thinks it is in your way and the vehicle brakes hard. Very dangerous. Has happened numerous times.

- #11554603November 10, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
While using the radar cruise control, the vehicle will aggressively apply braking pressure, without warning and risk losing control of the vehicle. The risk of being rear ended is frightening at highway speeds. This usually happens through turns, and the Mazda mistakes vehicles in opposite lanes as being in the same lane. This has occurred multiple times with different people.

- #11554557November 10, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Cruise control safety concern: car detects vehicle in front when there isn't and brakes sometimes hard abruptly due to misdetecting a vehicle ahead in a different lane as is it was in the car's same lane specially in curves or if the vehicle ahead but in a different lane is casting a shadow in front of car. Blind spot: blind spot detects a vehicle in the blind spot even when there's no vehicle. Noticed that car sometimes detects vehicles on an opposite direction road as if they're in the blind spot and it can set off the blind spot monitor.

- #11554525November 10, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
When driving on a highway with cruise control on. If you are in an outside lane and the is a tractor-trailer in the inside lane maybe 100-200 feet ahead of you. If the highway veers to the left even though the truck remains in the inside lane the system seems to think the truck is right in front of the car. Cruise shuts down and it starts to brake. I have almost gotten hit by cars behind me twice. It has happened 4 times now. The first time was in mid June 2023 and three other times since. I asked about it and was told to go with manual cruise - I would have to manually do that each time I want to use it. Not acceptable and very unsafe. Reports of this type of incident have shown up several times on the Facebook Mazda CX-90 site. One other problem is with the front bushings. A hard right turn going over any kind of bump causes a severe rubbing sound.

- #11554501November 10, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
When operating the radar cruise control, if a large truck (semi, box truck) is next to you when going around a curve, the vehicle is seeing that truck in your lane and applies the brakes very suddenly. This is an issue, because if someone is following behind you, it is almost as if you are brake checking them. Clearly that is not safe at highway speeds. This has happened to me several times since owning this vehicle.

Using the adaptive cruise control in I-64, the car will dangerously slow down/brake in the turns. If someone was following m, this slow down would have been unexpected, and could have rear ended us or lost control trying to avoid us. Unexpected slowdowns are dangerous. Not sure if this happens at lower speeds on side triads since I don’t use the cruise control on those roads.

While driving on freeway with Adaptive cruise control set, vehicle automatically brakes when passing large vehicles, like semi trucks. ACC set at 75, I'm in left lane to pass truck going around curve and brakes come on and slow vehicle down to 60. I am clearly in the left lane to pass and truck in right lane. My safety and those behind are at a HUGE risk. This will cause an accident if not addressed. I am going to get rearended, it's just a matter of time. I have taken it to dealership and have been told this is normal. No it is not! No warnings other than car slamming on breaks for no reason. This has happened several times. I put down the date it first happened. I am available to bring it to dearship, again.

My car detects a vehicle in front and slows down in the following scenario - when on cruise control and passing a big truck from the other lane and the road is bent toward the right or left. It's so annoying and I might get rear-ended one day as the vehicle behind me doesn't expect that I slow down. Very dangerous safety issue!

After turning vehicle off, two incorrect warnings appeared on the dash monitor. 1) “Rear Seat Alert. Check Rear Seats….” 2) Warning image and sound regarding the rear bumper. However, there were no objects in the back seats (except for a light sunhat that had been there for weeks), and there was nothing near the left rear bumper. In fact no objects for probably 10 feet from the bumper. I noticed this once, 10/24/2023 but it may have occurred before and I didn’t notice (I frequently get out of the car quickly when at my destination). Safety concern since the safety features are not giving correct warning signals.

Gear shift can easily slide from Drive to Neutral (and from Neutral to Reverse) if a book, purse, or other object is on the center console and slides forward and touches the gearshift when vehicle comes to a stop. Photos attached show me shifting from D to N with my pinky finger. This is a safety problem because if the center console is flat, making it easy for someone to place an object on it. When the car needs to stop somewhat quickly, the object on the console slides forward and pushes the gearshift into Neutral. This happened to me while I was in traffic, resulting in confusion as to why I could not drive the car forward after my stop. I then realized the car had been shifted into neutral. I shifted the car back into Drive and removed the object from the console. Safety issue for anyone beginning to drive this car wi the out this knowledge. Could also occur if a passenger (unknown to the driver) places an object on the console.

Safety issue, random, with 360 View Monitor cameras malfunctioning. This camera issue has happened randomly at least 7 times since I purchased the car in May 2023. The most recent occurrences were 10/26, 09/27, 09/23, 08/03/2023. What happens: when starting the car, 360 View Monitor should show images of surroundings. Instead, no image from the cameras shows; it’s black on the screen. Colored lines show the direction the car is backing up or moving forward, but the rest of the screen is black. When it occurs, it will remain in this faulty condition for the entire drive. The button on the console (left of gearshift) that turns on the image cameras when driving will show the same image. It will remain in this disabled mode until the car is turned off for a long time. I’ve tried turning it off and letting it sit until the computer sounds like it has shut off (2-3 min, perhaps), and restarting the vehicle — this does not cure the problem. The car seems to need to be turned off for a longer time. If I turn the car off and return in, say, 2 or more hours, the issue is cured (temporarily). Attached are still images from a video. This is random in occurrence and seems to be completely unpredictable when it will will happen. Safety issue.

Problem noticed shortly after purchasing the car in May 2023, and is a constant issue. Always: when driving, and when I press the the button to the left of the gearshift to activate the 360 View Monitor, the default image shows a useless, mostly black, image. (Scrolling to the other two, non-default images, they are useful images.). Instead, it gives the appearance of a black gap in the space around the car. I am attaching several still images from a video. Safety concern, because the image is not correct, and this is a listed safety feature.
