Intermittently when I come to a stop, my vehicle does not restart from the auto start stop. When I mentioned this to the Honda dealer, they said my battery was bad and needed to be replaced. I replaced it in the problem still persists. I drive on route [XXX] from [XXX] to [XXX] daily for work and this has happened a couple times in rush-hour traffic. I’ve gotten a video of this and I have showed the dealership and they are not covering this under a powertrain warranty. My understanding there is an investigation, and Honda is aware of these issues. Investigation number is.EA25004. The restart function on this vehicle doesn’t work. Will leave you stalled in traffic. Multiple events in this vehicle for me. Problem recognized for older models but not 24-25 yet. Same exact issue though

There’s been a constant system failure with the starter, which works intermittently. It has a sluggish turnover. There have been a lot of reported problems with this starter, which causes system failure in the vehicle.

ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The starter motor suffers from electrical heat-soak. When the engine is fully warm, the vehicle fails to restart manually. This leaves the vehicle stranded and vulnerable at gas stations, intersections, or in heavy traffic conditions after the vehicle is shut off. The manufacturer's dealership cannot reproduce it because they only test the battery cold, leaving a known defect unaddressed on a vehicle still under factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. This starter happening occasionally but now anytime it is hot it fails to restart or restarts very slow.

On XXX at approximately 8:10 am I was traveling West bound on Highway [XXX] from [XXX] to [XXX]. when without warning, I heard a loud explosion above me and in looking at my rearview mirror I saw what looked like shards of glass flying out past the bed of my truck. There were no other cars around, the roadway was clean, no trees were overhanging the highway. I did not pull over on the highway. My truck was handling ok and I could hear what sounded like glass dropping onto the closed sunshade above me. I could also hear wind above, so I was pretty sure something had happened to the sunroof. Once I got to safety, I stopped and stepped up onto the edge of the floor boards to inspect the roof and take photos. The glass was peeling up where still attached, and the glass break was in a butterfly pattern. The portion miss was left and right of a wide X, with the top and bottom of the wide X still in place. see photos. I called Honda Cust. Service and opened a claim. They instructed me to take it to a dealer for evaluation. The tech was dismissive, telling me glass doesn't just break. I instructed the tech to save all glass shards for inspection by NHTSA or Honda and requested a warranty evaluation. I did request the glass be replaced and evaluation shared with Honda. While I am not an engineer, and cannot state with certainty that this was defective glass, I can say that the pattern of the break was unusual. There was no other damage - the roof is not dented or scratched. the sunroof is still in place, the trim and molding is undisturbed and there was NO foreign debris in the sunroof area, in the bed of my truck, or on my bumper. there were some shards of glass in the sunroof area, in the bed of the truck, and on the bumper when I stopped. I took many photos and offered them to the Honda Tech, but he was not interested. I am waiting for a Honda Case Mgr. to be assigned. I have communicated with Honda Corporate XXX and XXX. TIRES:TREAD/BELT
I purchased my new 2024 Honda Ridgeline new at the end of 2024. The vehicle currently has approximately 29,000 miles and still has all four original factory Firestone Destination LE2 tires, size 245/60R18. All four tires are showing significant dry rot and cracking in the tread, specifically between the outside row of tread and the next row in. The cracks run around the tires and are in nearly the exact same location on all four tires. Some of the cracking is also spreading into the surrounding tread. I am concerned that all four tires are deteriorating prematurely, especially considering the vehicle is relatively new and has low mileage. I would not expect factory tires on a vehicle less than two years old with only 29,000 miles to already be cracking like this. My biggest concern is safety. I regularly drive at highway speeds, and I’m worried the cracking could lead to a tire failure. I discovered the cracking during a visual inspection and have taken photos documenting the condition of all four tires. I believe this issue should be investigated because all four original Firestone tires are experiencing the same premature deterioration on a relatively new, low-mileage vehicle and they all should be under warranty.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE
In August 2026, my 2024 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition became undriveable while traveling in stop‑and‑go traffic on a four‑lane interstate. Without warning, the vehicle shut down completely and would not restart. After multiple attempts, it eventually restarted, but the shutdowns continued several more times during the same trip. The local Honda dealership retrieved diagnostic codes indicating software and transmission faults related to the auto stop/start system. They reinstalled the vehicle’s software. Several weeks later, similar failures occurred again involving the stop/start system. During the second evaluation, the dealership diagnosed the starter motor electrical connections as the source of the fault, noting that the starter was drawing excessive amperage. Replacement parts were no longer available from Honda and took several weeks to obtain. After replacement, the vehicle continues to experience electrical malfunctions, including unexpected computer reboots when coming to a stop. The issue remains unresolved, and the vehicle continues to pose a safety risk due to unpredictable shutdowns and electrical instability.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE
Initial Mechanical Issues – September 2026 In September, while slowing down at a traffic light, my Ridgeline unexpectedly shifted into Park on its own. I was forced to turn the vehicle completely off and restart it before I could continue driving. In addition to this dangerous incident, I experienced several other electrical and mechanical problems: •The high beams would activate unexpectedly, even when another vehicle was directly in front of me. •The driver's side window would move up and down without being prompted. •The vehicle began hesitating when starting in the mornings, behaving as though it had an aging or failing engine. Second Dangerous Incident – October 13, 2026 Approximately one month later, the vehicle again began experiencing difficulty starting and shifting gears roughly. On October 13, while slowing down at a traffic light, my Ridgeline unexpectedly shifted into Neutral on its own. A message appeared on the dashboard instructing me to press the brake pedal and shift into Park. My vehicle became disabled in the middle of the roadway, leaving me in an extremely dangerous situation. I was nearly struck by a semi-truck while sitting helplessly in traffic. The vehicle displayed a dead battery warning, despite the battery having been replaced only one month earlier. I repeatedly attempted to restart the vehicle using the push-button ignition. After approximately ten frightening minutes stranded in the roadway, the vehicle finally restarted. This incident could have resulted in serious injury or even the loss of my life.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while stopped at a red traffic light, the engine failed to restart after the Auto Start/Stop feature engaged. The battery warning light briefly illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the transmission to Park (P) and pressed the Engine Start/Stop button to restart the vehicle. The contact deactivated the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature to prevent the failure from recurring. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the starter motor required replacement; however, the replacement part was on backorder. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (Engine And Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The system in question and failing is the idle-stop engine, start function. The truck is available for inspection upon request. The idle-stop engine has failed to restart the engine several times in traffic and at stop lights. This has created a safety hazard, since even after completely shutting down the vehicle (all power off), it has taken multiple tries to restart. The starter becoming increasingly harder to start each time. The problem has been reproduced by Hagerstown Honda, [XXX] where I purchased and have the vehicle serviced. Vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's representative -- Hagerstown Honda. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This issue began occurring in XXX, after owning the vehicle just over two years. Issue has occurred multiple times in traffic in [XXX] and on surrounding roadways. Current fix is to always remember to disengage this system. However, the starter is becoming increasingly weaker in its ability to turnover the engine which is very concerning. The starter failed to start the car after a start/stop function at a stop-light. This is the 2nd time this issue has occurred on this vehicle with the starter being replaced once already. The dealer is investigating this issue Friday 10/16/2026. I anticipate another starter replacement leaving this vehicle one step closer to a lemon law claim. The issue is safety related as the stall happened on public roads stopped at a traffic light. The first attempt at restarting did not work. The truck started on the 2nd attempt. The dealer says there is no fix for this issue besides replacing the starter.

I was on 93 north in stop and go rush hour traffic just north of Boston Ma. Came to a stop and my auto start stop shut off as usual but the car didn’t restart. I had to shut the car off and restart it as if I just got in it. This is a huge concern seeing how I’m in this traffic daily and it’s not a safe place for your car not to restart.

The auto idle stop has malfunctioned causing the engine to not restart in busy intersections on 2 different occasions. The vehicle has been extremely slow to start on multiple occasions and has failed to start from stopped several times. The dealer diagnosed this as a faulty starter and has had my vehicle for 20 days now with no starters available. They have offered no information on when a starter will be available. Being stalled in traffic because of an auto idle stop feature that no one wants is a safety issue.

My auto stop engine device would not restart at an intersection and it left me stranded . The truck would not move, and I tried repeatedly to get the truck moving. This has happened several times this year since December 2025. Bravo Honda, Victoria, Texas told me they were not sure what caused the problem, but they said they charged the battery and felt as if this would resolve the issue. The next time I had an issue Bravo Honda replaced the battery and I was told that was the issue. Now this time Bravo Honda, Victoria , Texas has escalated the issue to Honda tech. They have had my truck 2 days and no resolution as yet, although they believe the starter is faulty and needs replacing. This is very dangerous as I have been left stranded in heavy traffic. I feel the mechanic maybe guessing at what is wrong with the truck. The last incident happened on 09/17/2026.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
2024 Honda Ridgeline, VIN [XXX], approximately 21,000 miles. The vehicle has repeatedly failed to restart in traffic after the Auto Idle Stop system automatically shut off the engine. Failures occurred XXX. During one occurrence, I was nearly rear-ended when the vehicle failed to restart as traffic began moving. The vehicle also intermittently cranks abnormally slowly when hot. The starter will crank, pause, then crank noticeably slower. I can intermittently reproduce the fail to start problem by driving until the vehicle is hot, shutting it off, and immediately restarting it. I have two videos of this condition. Honda replaced the battery, but the problem continues. The dealer reports that the battery, alternator, and starter pass diagnostic testing. I provided video documenting the abnormal slow cranking and failure to start, but no repair has been made. My primary safety concern is that Auto Idle Stop automatically shuts off the engine while stopped in active traffic, but the vehicle may then fail to restart, leaving it disabled in a traffic lane. The vehicle has already experienced this failure three times. NHTSA is currently investigating Auto Start/Stop no-restart complaints involving 2020–2025 Honda Ridgelines under EA25-004. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, POWER TRAIN
I am reporting a recurring Auto Idle Stop no-restart and starting-system failure in a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. At approximately 35,072 miles, while stopped at a traffic light with Auto Idle Stop engaged, the engine shut off but failed to restart when the brake pedal was released. The vehicle remained disabled in the intersection until it was manually restarted, creating a risk of a collision. An authorized Honda dealer found both positive and negative battery terminals loose, tightened them, reported that the battery passed a load test, found no diagnostic trouble codes, and returned the vehicle. The battery had already been replaced at approximately 30,238 miles after a slow-start complaint and a failed battery test. The condition recurred at approximately 42,563 miles. After the engine shut off at a light, the vehicle displayed an orange “P” and “System Problem Detected - Shift to Park,” went into Neutral, and required a manual restart before Drive could be restored. The dealer later reported that the replacement battery tested at approximately 197 CCA against its 650 CCA rating, but no root cause for the rapid deterioration or the shutdown/no-restart condition has been identified. The vehicle now intermittently cranks slowly and appears strained while starting. No permanent repair has been completed. The vehicle is available for inspection. The condition creates a safety risk because the vehicle can fail to restart or move from an intersection and may enter Neutral unexpectedly.
