ENGINE
One of the engine main bearings failed at a little over 27k miles. There was a knocking noise on the lower part of the engine. The engine could have possibly failed leaving me stranded. Yes the dealer was able to replicate the noise and replace the main bearing. No it hasn’t been inspected since I’ve had it. There were no warning signs other than the knocking noise and loud idling.

First, the windshield. It cracks for any Little Rock that hits it. I’ve never had this issue with any other car in my life! I’ve had to fix 4 cracks and now it completely cracked and have to replace the entire windshield. Second the sliding door!s!!!!! It’s been an ongoing issue as well. It either closes half way and returns clicking sound and now today it doesn’t open or close I had to force it open to let my kids out! I means bought this car brand new and it’s been nothing but issues! These types of issues should not be occurring on a relatively new car.

After a heavy rain, the rear tailgate stopped working- apparently the roof seals have cracked and water leaked into the rear part of the car, and destroyed the tailgate latch and control unit. When I was driving the car for service, the rear sensor kept beeping indicating that the tailgate was not latched properly- I was afraid it would open it, so I had to drive carefully to the dealer. Now, the dealer says it a known problem on the 22 odysseys that the seals crack and leak water into the car, but its not covered by any warranty, even though when I bought the car last year, it was a honda certified warranty. Now its a $2,630.00 job to repair this. The dealer said there was significant rust due to the leaking of the seals around the latch and controller unit. here isa link that says this problem actually goes back to 2018-2024 odysseys. [XXX] And I know it goes back as far as the 2008 model year- I had the 2008 odyssey and had the same roof seal water leak problem but the water was going into the seat belt areas. Something has to be done to stop this. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
The entire Honda Sensing driver-assist safety suite has failures that shows on the dash all at the same time. All at once non of the safety features work which is extremely dangerous while driving. The component in question is the front sensor camera located behind the rear view mirror mounted on the front windshield. This sensor camera is the core optical component for the entire driver assist safety suite.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was driving forward in the left lane, no cars in front of me. A garbage truck parked in the middle yellow lane to my left, a moving city bus on my right lane, but they were a bit further back, not driving next to me. There was a cae behind me. Was going at 25mph, then suddenly the automatic brake stopped my car. I didn’t understand why. It happened for a good 3 seconds. Then I was able to continue forward. So scary!!! No one close to my left or right or in front of me. The car behind me almost hit me because of the automatic brake.

The trunk on the van will close on its own. It does give a warning by beeping, but it’s happened at least half a dozen times. When the trunk comes down it happens quickly and has hit multiple people in the head. It’s very heavy too.

My van stalled twice and the 2nd one we need to have it towed to the dealership. The first time it stalled, we thought its only the battery and was able to run again. But the 2nd time it wont turn on even the batteries are good. The dealership diagnose it as the start/stop mechanism of the van due to the "eco" function (it stops the vehicle running when it is stop while driving) and they said that because of this they replaced the starter assembly. They even told my husband verbally that they had been getting repairs with the same issue. After they were repaired the technician verbally instructed my husband not to use the "eco function" because of the risk of stalling or breaking the starter assembly again. I learned that other Honda model such as Ridgeline and Pilot have a safety recall but why they did not include Odyssey? We have to pay out of pocket for the repairs that we did not expect coming from a good vehicle and also I bought this van brand new so I didnt expect that it will have this kind of problem at around 90K miles (my Toyota Highlander is still running at 150K!). I believe that all Honda vehicle that has start/stop "eco function" should have a safety recall, due to the fact that it can stall anytime and anywhere even when driving. Although my starter assembly had been replaced I am still anxious about this because it can lead to an accident. This is supposed to be a "family van" and Honda needs to prioritize SAFETY and RELIABILITY for a family van.

There’s been several incidences but the most recent one was today. While idling, my car fills up with a gas/exhaust smell. It happens intermittently but it has happened 4 times in the last week. If I shut the recirculate mode off, the smell will start to go away till I turn the recirculate back on. After further investigation, there’s several people with this issue as Honda odyssey owners. Problem has been reproduced several times on my own, however I will be taking to a dealership next week.

Exploding SunRoof: I was driving on the east bound 2020 freeway about 65 mph. There were no taller cars or trucks around, no overpass. All of a sudden there as a huge bang. The glass of the sunroof had exploded. It has not been used in 2 years. I cannot think of anything that could have caused it. I have only opened the sunroof once back in 2024 when I got the vehicle just to see what it was like; I haven't used it since then. When I stopped, it looked like a basketball and gone through the glass. I can't image how dangerous it would have been if the inside cover had been opened and the glass had sprayed the car. I did not get a picture of it. I drove directly to State Farm and they looked at it an approved the repair without photos.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The engine fails to restart on its own after the Auto Idle Stop (auto start/stop) system shuts it off at a stop. When this occurs the vehicle is left without power and I must shift to Park and restart the engine manually with the ignition button. This has happened while I was stopped at an intersection in traffic, leaving the vehicle disabled in a live lane until I could restart it. This is a serious safety hazard — the vehicle cannot move when traffic begins to move, and it cannot be moved out of the path of cross traffic. Honda's service campaign remedy for this condition (PGM-FI software update) was performed on my vehicle in March 2025. The failure recurred after that repair and has continued for approximately nine months. On [XXX] I returned to the selling dealer (Bob Rohrman Honda, Lafayette, Indiana, RO #[XXX]) and was charged $170 for diagnosis. The technician road-tested the vehicle, performed a battery test, and reported that the system was operating correctly with "no problem found." No cause was identified and the condition was not corrected. The failure has continued to occur since that visit. My vehicle is within the scope of NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25004. I am filing this report because my vehicle demonstrates the specific pattern cited in that investigation: the failure persisting after the manufacturer's service campaign repair was completed. My family, including a teenage driver, operates this vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SUSPENSION
I have pictures, but come to find out 2018-2024 odysseys have rear shocks that come apart at the top weld. The shock never got painted originally and they rot under the rubber boot and cause the shock to come apart into two pieces. Which causes the rear of the van to become “loose” I. Turns and bumps . Honda knows about this issue but does nothing about it

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving over bumps, the vehicle made an abnormal, increasingly loud squeaking sound. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the failure was identified as a defective driver’s side rear coil spring that required replacement; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the dealer's possession. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

SEAT BELTS, SEATS
While child was seated in the rear right second-row seat of a 2022 Honda Odyssey Touring, the seat belt became stuck and jammed, trapping the child in the car seat. Multiple attempts were made to release the child but the seat belt mechanism would not release. The child became distressed and complained of difficulty breathing. As an emergency measure, the child car seat had to be physically cut and destroyed to free the child. The vehicle was subsequently taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the rear right second-row seat belt was found cut in half and that the seat frame had to be replaced. Dealer stated the belt mechanism tested normal during post-incident inspection but was unable to reproduce the entrapment condition. The seat belt tensioner is suspected of having gotten stuck, causing the entrapment. This is a serious child safety incident involving potential entrapment and breathing distress in the second-row seating area.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I went to open back tailgate with key fob, no sound or anything - tailgate did not open. I tried inside vehicle buttons for back tailgate and would not respond - no sounds or anything. Nothing was obstructing the back gate on the outside or interior of vehicle to prevent it from opening. I found a video of a 2021 Odyssey having water leaks into the car from the sliding door and rusts the power module causing it to short. So, my husband opened the back fuse box and got into the back panel and removed and sure enough there is water damage to the module. It is about $400 to replace and it is only a Honda dealership part. This is a safety issue because there is no way to manually open back tailgate in case of an emergency. If water is slowly leaking and causing corrosion, this needs to be fixed by Honda.
