The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the engine auto start-stop system failed to restart the vehicle while at a complete stop, requiring the driver to manually restart the vehicle after several attempts. The message "Shift to Park to Start Vehicle" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a loose battery cable and the battery was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a case manager would follow up. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

The AIS system does not start back up at a light. Sometimes throws itself into park. Last week it started up, but everything shut down about 75 after the traffic light. The entire car loss all power. In the middle of traffic. Needed a policeman to wave cars around e in the middle of the street. Took to the dealership; they kept it for two days and could not recreate the situation. The car had the same problem with start up two days later after leaving the dealership

Starting problem. The vehicle sometimes (randomly) refuses to start after shutting off. For example, after filling gas, or turning off (idle off) at a stop light. It just refuses to start. Terrifying. Researched on the Internet and found thousands of complaints about this going back years. This needs a recall.

The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at traffic light, following the release the brake pedal (Auto Start - Stop). The vehicle will turn off in Drive while idling at the traffic intersection stopped for traffic light. This is a safety concern, that the safety sensor allowing for the vehicle to turn off while vehicle is in drive, could this also happen while driving.

The contact stated that while stopping at a red light, the vehicle idled and automatically turned off while stopped and then the vehicle restarted but the vehicle stalled. The electronics on the vehicle were not operating as designed. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. The contact's brother was able to jumpstart the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as needed. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

I was driving on a road around 30 mph when the engine cut off and shifted itself into park. No warning, no power, no movement. Car was dead in the road and I was unable to move it to the curb. I tried to press the drive button. Nothing. i pressed the starter button. Nothing. Parkway Honda said they could find nothing wrong other than replacing the battery. Car is brand new. Bought used at 6,000 miles and have only driven it 4,000 additional miles in roughly one year. Very dangerous defect for which they have no explanation.

Ever since taking delivery of my vehicle, we notice a strong machinery/oily smell lingering on ourselves (clothes/hair) and our children’s car seats and strollers that are in the vehicle when it is warm outside and the ac is being used. Additionally, since taking delivery of the vehicle, I started experiencing health issues which worsened in the warmer weather when we were using the AC more. The biggest symptom is severe skin rashes which we realized are in the areas that the air vents blow on me/where they hit the steering wheel and I touch the steering wheel. In order to manage my symptoms I needed to start biologic injectables and even with them the rash was still lingering. I was documenting the rash for my doctors and we recently realized that my symptoms align with owning the van. I believe vapors are entering the cabin through the HVAC system in the car. The smell that lingers on us/our things is specific only to this vehicle, and we did not experience it with my previous vehicle, which was a 2023 odyssey touring, or my husbands 2024 Honda prologue, or the loaners that the dealer has had us in that are also all Hondas. The vehicle has been with the dealer in the service department currently for about 55 consecutive days as they continue to look into the issue. Eventually during this period they agreed to replace the evaporator core—Honda did not approve it through the warranty, but the service manager was at a loss on what else it could be causing it. At this point the repair is still not complete and I am unsure if that is truly the solve. I truly believe this is a defect of the vehicle causing vapors to enter the cabin and cause my health issues because in this time of not being in the van for an extended amount of time my skin issues have cleared up fully, even without the use of biologics. I also wanted to note I never had these skin issues before having this vehicle, they started 2 weeks after purchase and resolved within weeks of being out of it.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the brakes independently activated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving on a busy highway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was informed that there was no fix for the failure. The contact was informed that the failure was a known failure with similar vehicles. In addition, the contact was advised to disable the forward collision avoidance feature. The contact was informed that the forward collision avoidance system occasionally malfunctioned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure was a safety hazard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

The contact stated that on four occasions while stopped at an intersection with the engine idling, the idle stop feature activated, and the vehicle unexpectedly shut off. The mechanic was able to restart the vehicle. There were other drivers behind the vehicle who started honking their horns. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the battery and starter needed to be repaired. The battery was replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

Auto idle system shuts down and stalled vehicle on intersections twice. Had battery replaced. Continued. Replaced starter (around 15,000 miles) Now at 34,000 miles it is starting to do it all over again. Stalled at intersection, battery sluggish. I turn off the auto idle system as soon as I start the car, but cannot remember to do so every time. Extreme safety issue where I live in major stop and go traffic with multiple children in my vehicle at all times. They are currently checking battery and starter again. No codes ever came on to indicate issues. Vehicle just stopped when auto idle engaged.

2024 Honda Odyssey with only 24K miles has a leak in the tailgate from bad welding in the body that is gathering water in the trunk. Safety isn’t at risk but I would say that the corrosion to any electrical items are at risk which will put me and my family and others at risk of something failing. Yes the problem has been reproduced and it’s a common thread on the internet. We will be taking it to the dealership to inspect since it’s still under warranty. No messaging of this from the car except the fowl odor.

Our 2025 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped. This has occurred approximately 10 times. The vehicle was previously taken to an authorized Honda dealership for this issue. The dealership diagnosed the battery as the cause and replaced it, but the same problem continued afterward. The two most recent incidents occurred on 7/21. During one incident, we were stopped at a red light on a road with a 55-mph speed limit. The vehicle shut off and did not restart normally when traffic began moving. We were left immobilized in an active traffic lane while vehicles approached and passed us at approximately 55 mph. We had difficulty getting the vehicle restarted and moving again. This presents a serious rear-end collision risk because approaching drivers expect traffic to move when the light changes. Four children regularly ride in this vehicle, and we do not believe it is safe to continue driving. We contacted the Honda dealership again after the battery replacement failed to correct the problem. We were told that unless technicians could duplicate the issue, there was nothing further they could do. Because the failure is intermittent, we cannot predict when it will occur, but it has happened approximately 10 times and has continued after Honda’s attempted repair. We also opened a case with American Honda Motor Co., Inc. We are reporting this because the vehicle can unexpectedly leave our family stranded in an active traffic lane and unable to move out of the path of approaching traffic.
