On Oct 11,2026, at approximately 105,106 miles, I was driving my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 under 20 mph while entering a short designated turning lane at [location]. I felt a sudden, unexpected bump or jolt. The truck slid slightly and abruptly came to a complete stop, as though something had mechanically locked up. Immediately afterward, the dashboard displayed a “Braking System Failure” warning. A front wheel appeared collapsed underneath the truck, with substantial visible damage to the front suspension and surrounding components. The specific component that failed first and the initiating cause are UNKNOWN. I did not knowingly strike a curb, pothole, road debris, another vehicle, or another object before the incident. The truck has no aftermarket lift or leveling kit. I purchased it less than two weeks before this occurred. The wheel collapse, sliding, and sudden stop compromised my ability to safely control the truck and created a risk of collision with surrounding traffic. A similar event at higher speeds could have caused a serious crash. The truck is being towed to the selling dealership, which is covering the towing cost. I am seeking an independent GMC inspection and requesting preservation of damaged components and diagnostic data. Inspection availability can be coordinated with me and the dealership. At the time of this report, I have not received a confirmed mechanical diagnosis. Inspection by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other parties: [state who has inspected it, or UNKNOWN]. The braking warning appeared immediately after the sudden stop. Earlier warning lights, messages, or symptoms: [describe any, state NONE if accurate, or UNKNOWN]. Photographs are available. I can provide inspection findings when available.

Vehicle is a 2021 GMC Sierra with 3.0 Diesel. Coolant control valve is bad. Vehicle has 108,000 miles. GM issued Bulletin N252508341 extending the warranty to 15 years or 150,000 miles for 2021-2022 GMC Sierra. Now they are saying my VIN # is not effected and they will not cover the replacement which costs about $2100. After researching this I'm finding many VINs are not covered and there are many trucks with failed parts that are not covered. GM should extend this to all VINs under those years. Its an obvious problem but their bulletin does not cover all the vehicles affected. They make it look like they are trying to make it right but in reality, its misleading.

I was approaching an intersection about to make a left turn as the turn signal was flashing yellow and my truck just stopped accelerating. If i had taken that turn i would have got hit and most likely cause a huge pile up because the amount of traffic going through. I put my hazard lights on and tried shifting my truck into park, and then back into drive, and it would not accelerate. I had to turn my truck off and on a few times for it to accelerate. There were no warning lights on my dash and the truck is brand new.

While towing a trailer on 6/26/26, the 6.2L L87 engine suffered a sudden drop in oil pressure, began knocking, and completely lost motive power on the roadway. Because the engine seized instantly, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power steering and power braking while managing the extreme weight of a trailer. This combination created a severe and immediate safety hazard, forcing me to maneuver a heavy, unpowered truck and trailer combination through active traffic to the shoulder without full steering or brake control, putting my life, my passengers' lives, and the safety of surrounding motorists at extreme risk. My dad read the codes before we took it to my mechanics and the only code I can remember is P0016. I took it and dropped it off at my local mechanics on 6/28/26. This is what my mechanic said: No Start-Truck came in not running. Had timing codes. I believe the crank bearing failed causing the engine to lose oil pressure. With the sudden loss of oil pressure, the timing chain tensioner slacked and caused the cam/crank to go out of time. Drained engine oil and found bearing material. We also cut oil filter open and found more bearing material. The timing cover was removed and verified the cam timing was off. In conclusion the engine has failed and will need full replacement. This is the exact failure mechanism under active NHTSA Investigation EA26005.

Upper grille deflector flew off going down the highway and hit the windshield and cracked it. Truck is a 2023 and warranty or dealership will not cover the repairs. Its a $85k truck and I don't think pieces of it should just fly off going down the highway. What if it hit somebody walking or riding a motorcycle.

1) Driving on highway and lost acceleration power would only go 50 mph/went into limp mode. Dealership stated VIN number had not been released into national safety recall. Replaced crank shaft valve and was told once VIN was released I would be reimbursed, to date still in dispute. 2) low oil light came on, upon checking oil was extremely low and oil had just been changed during #1’s repair. Had towed to dealership. Engine was replaced under recall. Was charged for water pump which is in dispute. 3) shortly after and well before oil change would be due, low oil light came on again. Towed back to dealership dip stick bone dry. I asked the store vehicle inside. Called for diagnosis at 5pm stated no codes no leaks found needed to investigate further. 4) 9am following day received a vm the truck had been repossessed by GM (note there is only 10K remaining on a special order 72K truck) dealership has not responded to requests to determine if the issue was fixed or request for service ticket to know what had been done. GM Financial claimed dealership told them it “was just a part under warranty” well the warranty came from the replacement engine that was under the recall…upon talking to reinstatement dept I was informed the vehicle was not fixed. I will be redeeming the vehicle but I do not think it is right to repo during a safety recall and then auction off not fixed as that is a safety issue! Once redeemed, it is also a safety issue to get from auction lot to be repaired.

The engine started making a loud knocking noise and lost power. Luckily the event happened in a neighborhood and no one got hurt. The check engine has been on for brief periods prior to this event.

The engine developed a noise while driving. The engine has been replaced. So inspection of the original engine is not available. The failure happen on the interstate system in a large metropolitan city, in heavy traffic. Our independent service center confirmed that one cylinder was not working. We had messages about brakes needing service, the ECS needed servicing. check engine light was flashing. These items came on about 5 minutes before we pulled off the interstate system.

My 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 experienced significant transmission problems that began as rough, inconsistent shifting, hesitation, and abnormal transmission behavior before eventually progressing to complete transmission failure. These symptoms were present before the transmission's ultimate failure and while the vehicle was still within its warranty period. Unfortunately, during the COVID-19 pandemic, local dealership service departments faced significant staffing shortages and appointment backlogs, making timely diagnosis and repair extremely difficult. By the time the transmission failed completely, the vehicle had exceeded the warranty's 84-month time limitation but remained substantially below its mileage limitation. Despite the relatively low mileage, the earlier symptoms, and the extraordinary circumstances affecting service availability, General Motors declined to provide warranty or goodwill assistance. I was forced to bear the substantial financial burden of a major transmission failure in a vehicle that had not reached the mileage threshold established under its warranty. I believe this failure warrants investigation because transmission problems involving GM trucks and SUVs from this period have been widely reported by other owners. I am particularly concerned about whether GM was aware of recurring transmission defects, whether affected owners received adequate notification, and whether these failures present a potential safety risk through unexpected loss of propulsion, hesitation, or unpredictable shifting. I request that NHTSA review this complaint alongside similar reports involving 2018 GMC Sierra transmissions to determine whether a recurring defect exists and whether further investigation or corrective action is warranted.

Front grill deflector flew off on the highway causing visibility issues and damaging paint on the truck. The clips broke and the piece shattered when it hit the roadway. Theres a recall on the 2022 and my 2023 is the exact same design with the exact same part. Gmc doesn't want to recall more trucks and has neglected this problem.

5/08/2026: I stopped outside my garage. I then placed the truck in park and exited the vehicle while running. I went inside my garage and several minutes later, heard a crash. The truck had driven forward while unattended, and crashed into the corner of my garage, causing damage to both the building and the truck. Truck indicated it was still in park upon reentry. 5/11/2026 In a separate incident 3 days later, while driving at approximately 50mph, truck engaged in an automatic braking event with no discernible cause. Simply applied what felt like 100% braking for a split second, then released. 5/12/2026: Truck taken to GMC for investigation. No codes in any modules detected. 9/20/2026: Vehicle reports transmission fault, states it should not be driven. 9/21/2026: Towed to GMC dealer. Found codes P17A8 and P189D and diagnostic code 6906361, internal fault within gearshift control module. Requested GMC pay for damage resulting from collision, as clearly the unattended driving appeared related to gearshift control, but was refused. GMC stated that unattended driving was not possible and did not result from the detected failures.

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with the L87 6.2L V8. The cam shaft and lifters have failed for a 2nd time. The first time happened in 2022. It was under warranty and happened at approximately 40,000 miles. This last time it happened in 2026 and was at 125,000 miles - both for the same thing - cam shaft and lifters. Both were sudden failures and luckily I was on a highway that wasn't buy at the time. This time it is costing me $10,000 to fix. They have had the truck for two months now. My understanding is the significant recall that occurred was being investigated to see if it should be expanded. I believe it should have been expanded. Whatever came of that decision? GM told me they could offer no help as my truck was out of warranty and my truck was not on the recall list. I'm curious if it will be expanded and what would happen in my situation if it is expanded. GM has deleted the support message chain that went on for four weeks where I was trying to get them to cover it under the recall and/or explaining the entire situation. Transmission failed at about 40 MPH, coasted to the side of the road and wheels locked up. No warning lights even after the failure. GM dealership inspected and confirmed it is the common valve body failure on GM trucks but my truck is not covered on recall. It is sitting at dealer waiting for a decision. No warning, the dealer changed the transmission fluid and filter 4000 miles before.

The engine on my 2022 GMC Sierra seized while driving. There were no warning lights or any other indicators that there was a problem. My vehicle had previously underwent the L87 Recall "fix" of changing the oil cap and using different engine oil.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that later while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact's son later attempted to start the vehicle, and the vehicle started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the diagnostic report was incomplete. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall associated with the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Truck has been making a ticking noise for about the last four months. Yesterday, October 7, 2026 I stepped on the accelerator the engine paused a second and blew out gray smoke through my exhaust I saw in my rearview mirror. There is a delay in power from the time I put my foot on the accelerator when it actually gets moving faster.
