- #11685257September 5, 2025ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
See attached document for complaint. I am writing as the owner of a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the 6.2-liter engine that has recently been included in a significant recall. I've been advised that the engine may need to be replaced entirely. As you can imagine, this is extremely concerning given the scale of the defect and the vital role this truck plays i'n my dayto- day responsibilities.

While driving on the interstate we were exiting to pull into a rest area while slowing down the rear wheels momentarily locked up and the truck downshifted hard and abruptly with that happening the check engine light came on along with a decreased power message. We pulled into a parking spot during so we tried to shift into reverse and it didn’t want to shift into reverse, we tried this for a while. We finally got it into reverse and we were able to back out of the parking spot. When we tried shifting to drive we encountered the same issue. The vehicle did not want to go into drive. Once finally into drive it did not want to shift into any higher gears. It was essentially stuck in one of the gears. We made it to a GMC dealer on the next exit -we drove on the side of the interstate to get there- when we arrived we had them run the codes and they told us it was a transmission control valve which GMC has had a major recall on. While we had this “fixed” at a different dealership previously in march of 2025 it only entailed “updating the software” involving the transmission control valve. We had to leave the truck at the GMC dealer that we were able to ‘limp’ to in Crestview FL. We’ve been told our truck now needs an entirely new transmission that is going to cost $7,000. We had a similar issue right after the “software update for the transmission control valve” on march 20, 2025. The software was updated roughly a week before that incident which seemed to have cleared itself because it was momentarily and never happened again until now. Our safety was at risk because we had to drive on the side of the interstate to get to a shop because we were out of town and a tow truck was going to cost between 600-1000 dollars to get home.

Vehicle (2019 GMC Sierra SLT X31!Crew Cab 6.2 l gas engine) stopped running while driving down the road (Wednesday [XXX]. Tried to start truck - would crank over quickly but failed to start ( crank no start with no check engine light.) tried several times same result. Started after about 5-10 minutes and was displaying low fuel indicator even though we knew it had approximately 1/2 tank. We immediately put gas in it and it took approximately 1/2 tank to fill. Still no check engine light and confirmed no stored codes via onstar report. Drove the truck around for may 1hr and check engine light came on but was still running and did not stop running like it did earlier. On star reported ECM SYSTEM CODE P129F ( Fuel pump or fuel pump power control module). Long story short, put truck in independent repair shop I use. They diagnosed it was a defective fuel pump located in fuel tank. They told me GM technical support recommended to replace the fuel pump and fuel pump power and control module at a cost of ~$1325.00. It is my opinion this is a safety hazard and very similar if not exactly the same failure symptoms / modes as others have already reported. I requested to keep the failed parts and still have them in my possession. Please review and let me know if you need or want additional information . See attached document for complaint. I'm writing to formally express my concern and disappointment regarding the excessive delay in resolving the recall issued for my vehicle. While I understand that safety recalls can involve complex logistics, the prolonged timeframe without any clear resolution has created both an inconvenience and a safety risk for me and other vehicle owners affected by the same issue.

System/Component: Service Brakes, Hydraulic Summary: Recurrent loss of brake performance and vibration in a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. Front pads wear to 1–2 mm and front rotors become “very warped” within short mileage intervals; right‑front caliper previously seized; pad‑sensor circuit fault also documented. Multiple dealer repairs under 30k miles; condition recurs. Increased stopping distance and steering vibration at speed. Chronology (dates / approx. mileage): 09/06/2024 (~10,437): front brake repair; 01/13–14/2025 (~16,239): RF caliper seized repaired; 05/05–06/2025 (~20,734): pads 1–2 mm and rotors very warped; 08/15–18/2025 (~27,574): pads again ~2 mm and rotors very warped. ( Emissions soot collection and engine deceleration is another issue in the diagnostics.) Dealer: Chevrolet Buick GMC of Bellevue, WA. Status: Defect continues after multiple repairs; safety concern due to stopping distance and vibration.

The transmission control mod is bad. This is a persistent problem and that's why it is on back order for up to a year. It is unethical to not issue a recall as customers have to continue to pay for the vehicle while not getting a replacement of equal capabilities. I bought a 3/4 ton truck to haul for work, not getting something that can do the same while a pay $1000+ a month is wrong. For the NHTSA not to get involved, issue some sort of recall, and allow GM to continue to take people's money while their vehicles depreciate is wrong. Is this so the government can get paid back from GM for the bailout 15 years ago?

Reverse lights stay on. Causing the battery to drain. The fuse box under the hood is prone to go bad. Even with no corrosion. GM knows this and has not fixed the issue. Its a common problem going back many years. The need to upgrade the fuse box under the hood & the wiring harnesses. My taillight harnesses were completely burned up. The truck could of caught fire. This should be a recall. Instead GM wants to take the money they are making off all the fuse boxes they are selling.

On [XXX], at approximately [XXX], while driving northbound on [XXX] between [XXX] and [XXX] (Austin, TX) at roughly 65 mph, I suddenly heard a loud cracking and popping sound from the front of the vehicle. As I began to ease off the gas, unsure of what was happening, I observed what appeared to be a black object quickly shoot upward from the front driver’s side of the vehicle while traveling at highway speed. I immediately took the next exit [XXX] ) to assess the situation. I had no idea what to expect; my mind kept jumping to either hitting road debris or maybe even a blowout. To my astonishment, once I was safely on the side of the road and out of my vehicle, I noticed that the front left fender flare had completely detached from the vehicle suddenly and without warning while cruising at normal highway speeds. The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 in question had approximately 29,800 miles at the time of this incident. I immediately contacted the dealer to schedule a repair, and all pertinent records, including photographs and a repair invoice, can be made available upon request. Vehicle: 2020 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ) Description of the Problem: My 2020 GMC Sierra Denali has developed serious engine problems that create unsafe driving conditions. On [XXX], I documented loud knocking and clicking noises coming from the engine. The vehicle also shows warning lights and unpredictable performance. Because of these defects: •I cannot safely drive the truck without risk of engine failure while on the road. •The noises and mechanical issues raise concerns about potential loss of power, stalling, or catastrophic engine damage at highway speeds. •No independent mechanic will touch the vehicle because of the complexity and risk of the defect, leaving me stranded. General Motors has refused to take responsibility, and the BBB AUTO LINE denied my case due to mileage, but the defect itself is unrelated to mileage or normal wear. This is a manufacturer defect that creates a safety hazard for me, my family, and other drivers on the road. What I’m Requesting: I am asking NHTSA to investigate this issue with GMC Sierra models, as these engine defects make the vehicle unsafe to operate and could lead to accidents if the engine fails while driving. My motor locked up a year ago. Before the recall. At 74k miles. GM stated they did not know why it happened. Although there was 6 of the same trucks in their lot under 20k miles with the same problem. I was forced to pay out of pocket. I notified my GM dealer that my engine was knocking at 15k miles and they did nothing. Now that I have a new engine I have brought it to the dealer 3 times because it is also knocking. They’ve told me they hear it but theirs no code so nothing wrong with it….. GM refused to help me in any way nor will they help me get a reimbursement for their manufacture defective engine that I payed for. I had to take a $10k loan out to get back on the road. Every day that passes I am paying more interest because of GM. They will not even let my bring it in for an inspection and the heavier weight oil (they want me to pay diagnostic fee HA) I don’t want to take legal action but it feels like if I don’t, GM is going to ruin my life. Such a Blatant disregard for the customer. This whole thing has put me in such a terrible financial crisis I’ve been living check to check since this happened. PLEASE HELP ME.
