ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
We were picking up my wife’s 2022 BMW 228xi after having tinting applied to windows. As I was in the office paying for the work, my wife put her purse in the car and sat in the driver’s seat. She noticed the seat was too low and that her booster pad had been moved to the passenger seat. She had not touched any of the car's controls and was starting to turn to exit the car so she could place the pad in the driver’s seat. As she was beginning to turn, she heard the engine start and the car went into a full throttle acceleration which pushed her against the seat back. Before she could react to try to control the car, it was speeding down the parking lot and in 4 to 5 seconds reached the end of the lot and went over an approximate 40 foot bluff. Airborne, she passed over State Road 1460 and impacted a tree in the forest beyond the road. 911 was called and shortly after the Fire Department arrived to remove my wife from her car. An EMS unit transferred her to the Trauma 1 ER at a nearby hospital to treat her serious injuries. After seventeen days in the hospital she was transferred to a skilled nursing facility to continue her recovery

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
BMW DRL (Daytime Running Light) module is is overheating causing damage to the internal fiber optic tube. Dealer said this is a common issue and requires module replacement to prevent requiring a whole headlight assembly as BMW does not sell the fiber optic cable separately. Lights should not be overheating and causing burning to cable in car.

The contact owns a 2022 BMW 228i. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH and traveling over a bump in the roadway, all of the air bags deployed without warning or impact. The front windshield was cracked about halfway. The driver sustained injuries to her face and had marks and bruises on her legs and neck, and back, and a concussion. The other occupant had sustained bruises and welts; her bone was sticking out and was swollen, and medical attention was not provided. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to her residence. There was no reported fire. A DC number was provided by the police department. The contact mentioned she had been in a prior crash where the air bags did not deploy. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted by email, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

SERVICE BRAKES
The contact owns a 2021 BMW 228I. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear brakes. The service brakes warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the rear brake rotors. The contact was also informed that the rear brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 25,000.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR BMW OEM PART # 13547619008 FITS ALL BMW MODELS 2016-2024. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO FAIL ACROSS MULTIPLE BMW MODEL LINES, particularly in the E60, E90, and E92 series. when it fails, the engine power goes into a safe mode which drops the rpms down to idle speed around 500 rpm and the car can only go a few mph. this happened on the freeway in lane number one at the speed limit, and it was only by a miracle I got to the shoulder without a major potentially fatal accident. BMW lied to me and told me that NHSTA is responsible for policy recalls, but you told me they initiate them on their own. Left to police themselves, they are not recognizing the widely reported failure as a recall, and the repair was thousands after almost causing a fatal accident.

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
I have this model 2023 with about 6000 miles which makes a noise when in reverse. I have the same model year 2021 which has 25000 miles. The dealer states the brakes and rotors may have issues on the 25000 . If this occurs on a same model type two years apart and 19000 mile difference this is questionable. I have also had failure on the I drive system for frontal crash warning on 2023 not repaired after documenting it failed twice.

I have a 2021 with 25000 miles and a 2023 with 6000 miles which make noise when in reverse. The dealer has stated the rear brake pads likely need replacement and rotors as well. It seems questionable that two exact models two years apart and 20000 miles apart are encountering the same issue.

ENGINE, POWER TRAIN, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Shifter failure: IN DRIVE mode, the shifter moves to neutral with slight movement of wrist. The shifter is NOT locked thus requiring intentional shift movement, alas simply brushing your arm against it as you reach for the coffee or the radio causes the vehicle to STOP driving Safety Risk: While driving, the car STOPS accelerating and requires the owner to manually put the car back into drive, while other cars are gaining speed on the car, as it is an unintentional manunever, thus the driver does not realize the car has lost speed as it was not intended BMW Corporate, and Dealer were notified, not police, or insurance Both the dealer and the service tech stated this is allowed and acceptable I asked to return the vehicle and was told that I could NOT, despite vehicle being less than 30 days from purchase There were NO warning lamps, there are no messages that come on, the car simply stops driving as you are turning the radio or grabbing your coffee and the only symptom or warning is when you realize in fact the car has shifted

The contact owns a 2021 BMW 228I. The contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH, the sunroof exploded. The contact stated that the shade guard was closed at the time the failure occurred. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that he inspected the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the sunroof needed to be replaced. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

POWER TRAIN
From a stop, the car will refuse to stay in either Drive or Reverse and jumps back into Park as soon as you take your foot off the brake pedal. Message center says the car is rolling, but it is NOT! My wife has been stuck twice in a situation where she could not drive the car. She tried the parking brake, but since it is not rolling, it does not help. The actual reason is that a door is ajar. Even the sales people did not know this. It took the service manager to explain it. I have sold the car at a loss because my wife will not drive it.
