SummaryThis condition may be caused when the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are depressed simultaneously. Drivers who consciously or unconsciously drive with their left foot resting on the brake pedal are prone to experience this condition. With the introduction of Electronic Power Control (EPC) (no accelerator cable) to fuel injection systems, an engine RPM control feature has been incorporated into the engine electronic control system software. As a result, application of the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time (brake pedal with left foot and accelerator pedal with right foot) results in the following: ? Brake pedal function (normal at all times) overrides any throttle application. ? Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will not be stored. ? When the brake pedal is applied while the accelerator is depressed, engine RPMs will return to idle speeds of 1400 RPMs after approximately two seconds. ? When the accelerator is applied while the brake pedal is depressed, the vehicle accelerates slower than usual (reduced engine torque).

SummaryAs diesel engine passenger vehicles become more popular, auto manufacturers have seen an increase in the number of misfueling cases where diesel engine vehicles are mistakenly fueled with gasoline. The resulting fuel system contamination can lead to costly repairs that are not covered under warranty. As an additional safeguard to help prevent a gasoline fuel pump nozzle from being used to fuel a TDI® Clean Diesel engine vehicle, dealers will install a misfueling guard in the fuel filler neck of vehicles affected by this action. Additionally, a new fuel filler neck cap will also be installed.

SummaryBeginning with MY2013, the filler necks of all A3 TDI vehicles are equipped with a misfueling guard (Figure 1). The guard minimizes the likelihood that fuel other than ultra-low sulfur diesel will be put into the vehicle. The misfueling guard is designed to remain in a locked position when a nozzle with a diameter typically suited for non-diesel fuels (approximately 13/16?, or 20.6mm) is inserted, to prevent further insertion of the nozzle into the filler neck. A nozzle with a larger diameter typically suited for diesel fuel (approximately 15/16?, or 23.8mm) will unlock the misfueling guard when inserted, allowing the nozzle to be further inserted into the filler neck.
