Honda HRC Progressive riders demonstrated a dominant performance at Round 7 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Spring Creek Motocross Park. Hunter Lawrence secured his fourth overall victory of the season, reclaiming the 450MX championship points lead, while teammate Chance Hymas earned his first 250 moto win of the year. The team topped three of the four motos contested in Minnesota.
Dominant Performance at Spring Creek
Hunter Lawrence delivered a perfect 1-1 performance in the premier 450MX class aboard his CRF450RWE, earning his fourth overall victory of the season. This win allowed him to reclaim the championship lead. His brother, Jett Lawrence, also showed considerable speed but a crash in the second moto limited him to a third-place overall finish.
In the 250MX class, Chance Hymas achieved his first moto win of the year in the second race, contributing to a second-place overall finish. Honda HRC Progressive's strong showing at Spring Creek further solidified their position in both championships.
Championship Implications and Rider Insights
Following this round, Hunter Lawrence now leads the 450MX championship with 320 points, holding a 10-point advantage over Jett Lawrence, who sits at 310 points. Hunter described his first moto as strong, while the second involved a close battle with Jett before his brother's crash. Jett acknowledged a challenging day, noting a small mistake led to his crash where his handlebar became lodged in his boot, costing him valuable time.
Chance Hymas reflected on his breakthrough 250 moto win, stating it confirmed his ability to compete at the front after a frustrating start to the summer. Team Manager Lars Lindstrom praised both Lawrence brothers' high-level racing and Hymas's improved flow and mental state during his winning moto.
Team Updates and Upcoming Rounds
In other team news, Jo Shimoda is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks due to a fractured clavicle, sustained in a previous crash. Surgery is not required, and he aims to return for the SMX Championship. Honda now holds the record for premier-class overall wins at Spring Creek with 10 victories, surpassing other manufacturers.
Qualifying saw Hunter Lawrence and Jett Lawrence place first and third respectively in the 450MX class. Chance Hymas qualified tenth in the 250MX class. The AMA Pro Motocross Championship continues this Saturday with Round 8 in Washougal, Washington, where Hunter Lawrence will carry the 450MX red plate into the next event.
