[XXX] I ordered lower control arms from [XXX] . Not even a year later I had experienced a clunking noise when I turned the steering wheel. That weekend my wife and I rode up to our campsite. Seeing a deer in the road I slowed down only for the truck to veer to the left and almost hitting a logging truck. Talking to a mechanic, he told me that it was the bushings of the lower control arms at fault. Having no choice I bought two new control arms and had a shop put them on. Calling extreme terrain, they told me even though it has not been a year they couldn't give me a refund if I returned the old ones back to them. - #11668776June 23, 2025VISIBILITY/WIPER, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I’m filing this complaint regarding a known issue with the A/C evaporator core on my Toyota Tacoma (3rd generation). The evaporator core has prematurely failed, leading to a complete loss of air conditioning and, more importantly, reduced defrosting and defogging capabilities that directly affect visibility and driver safety. This issue is widespread and well-documented among Tacoma owners, and Toyota has issued TSB T-SB-0145-20, acknowledging that corrosion in the evaporator core leads to refrigerant leakage. Despite the known defect, Toyota has not issued a recall and is charging owners thousands of dollars to repair a part that is failing far earlier than expected. In my case, the system began blowing only warm air, and the defroster can no longer clear moisture from the windshield, which is a serious safety issue in humid or cold conditions. This should be treated as a systemic defect, not regular wear and tear. Toyota needs to be held accountable for this manufacturing flaw, which affects safety-critical components like the defroster and visibility systems.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Tacoma equipped with Toyo Tires, Tire Line: Open Country HT, Tire Size: 265/70/R16, DOT Number: CXLJA881918. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was shuddering significantly. The vehicle was taken to Walmart for the tires to be balanced and the wheels rotated. The mechanic informed the contact that the service could not be performed because the front tires were out of round, the tires belts were separated, and the tire beads were fractured. The tires were not replaced. The tires were replacement tires. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tire warranties were not transferable from the previous owner. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 144,549. The tires failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The VIN was not available.

Transmission slipping in 2nd gear and losing power. No warning lights, but the loss of power could've resulted in an accident had it been in an intersection. I can reproduce the issue, but the dealer says they are unable to. That said, there are other issues with power delivery such as RPM flutter that they have acknowledged in writing.

This complaint is about the rear passenger side window on the vehicle. It is available for inspection upon request. This was a huge safety risk for me today. I had the rear passenger side door open (with the window rolled all the way up) gathering my things from the back seat. I closed the door with a normal amount of force and the window completely shattered causing me to be covered in glass shards. Luckily, no one was sitting in the back seat and at least I didn't get glass in my eyes. However, this is quite concerning. I don't believe the glass was under any stress or pressure. The temperature was 78 degrees and cloudy outside today, which doesn't seem extreme to me. The window was in perfect condition as I just bought the truck 2 months ago. After the window broke, I went directly to the dealership I bought it from, where they inspected it, and taped a trash bag over it. They told me there was a recall on windows for the new Toyota Tundra models, however, not yet the Tacoma. I believe this is a potential danger to many people and it should investigated.

Hood prop up rod comes loose in windy conditions. The was captured on my CCTV cameras and is also duplicatable. Simply shake the hood when it’s open and the rod comes loose Toyota was notified and instructed me to show the dealer. Dealer was notified and we duplicated the problem in their presence. They informed me that there was nothing they can do and they noted in in the maintenance report. The underside of my 2011 Toyota Tacoma is experiencing tremendous rust. Dealer said since there was not perforation, nothing to be done. Brackets holding wiring, body panels and now gas tank have rusted and failed. The gas tank strap is a major concern. It is available for inspection. The gas tank is held up now by one unrusted strap and rubber bungee cords I applied. Dealer or independence service center has not seen it. Nearest dealer is a ferry ride away, I live on an island. No inspection by manufacturer etc. No warning lights or messages.

My check engine light came on when I was traveling in Oregon. I didn't notice any major changes in my vehicle's performance. Drove it all the way back to Colorado without issues. It went off and came back on several times. I replaced the cabin air filter, engine air filter and put fuel injector cleaner in the vehicle. Finally I took it in to the Toyota dealership to get an oil change and then the check engine light came back on. I paid for them to do a diagnostic test and they stated they were almost certain it was the 2nd fuel injector running rich. Brought it back a week later for the repair. Fyi...I was still getting 20 mpg in fuel and I wasn't noticing anything major in performance. They replaced the fuel injector and then the check engine light came back on with a different code. They are now running "another" more expensive diagnostic test and I still don't have my truck. They are saying it could be the 2nd cylinder or the engine and claiming it has 150,000 miles so I should expect these issues (and conveniently my warranty has run out).

Engine began making abnormal ticking noise, heard primarily on the passenger side of vehicle. Upon removal of valve cover for inspection, found that there are chunks of camshafts breaking off causing the noise. Appears to be a manufacturing defect. Local dealer said they have seen this issue before. This issue could result in catastrophic engine failure and/or loss of power and cause a crash. My truck has 70k miles on it, regularly maintained and operated.

My leaf spring(s) is noisy/loosened and to the best of my limited knowledge is at risk for breaking off and puncturing the fuel tank per repair shops. This issue is not covered under Safety Recall E02 (E12) by Toyota for the model year 2012 Tacoma. As a consumer, I don't understand the determination of when the recall is cut off for specific model years. I would like for NHTSA and Toyota to analyze this issue as the model year 2012 Tacoma could be at risk. I have case with Toyota Customer Resolutions that has been closed. Thanks for your attention into this matter.

Hi there, I am reaching out as I am super frustrated. I received a text from Capital Toyota stating my 2017 Toyota Tacoma had a safety recall for a water leak. I contacted the dealership and they told me my vehicle wasn't eligible for this recall to reach out to cooperate, in which I did and they told me it was only for certain vehicles. However I have been texting with the service dept at Capital Toyota and they are saying it was apart of the recall but it has expired. Now I am left with a constant leaking from the third break light, and I have a [XXX] baby and it is a huge safety concern as mold is a serious health hazard. I can be reached at [XXX] if you need further information. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This vehicle thermostat and sensor system are faulty! My sensor started lighting up within a year and half after purchasing. Engine was not overheating at first, they said it will eventually happen and it did; all dealers said to replace but I was out of 360000 miles due to commute to Seattle. This vehicle is less then 3 years old and should have this item listed specifically in power train warranty since connected to engine directly. If engine overheats it is no longer usable and truck is useless! Engine warranty if this is a know issue from Toyota dealerships. Contacted 3-4 dealerships in the state of WA and all had known of issue. One dealer stated anything from 2020 to current has had thermostat issues. This is serious concern knowing the engine can seize up! Their thermostat and sensor should not be a combined item in my opinion. Please advise and or confirm this is an issue that should be looked into. If the engine overheats then the vehicle could cause an accident! This is a huge safety risk that can be avoided! I work and make it from paycheck to paycheck this was very expensive to fix and had to paid out of pocket. Please help others be aware of situation!

I am the third owner of a 2011 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 2.7L. I purchased it in Oct. 2024 in NY. At that time, there were no visible signs of frame rust. Within 6 months, it developed severe corrosion, including deterioration at the suspension mounts. The vehicle is no longer safe to drive and is available for inspection. Toyota previously recalled earlier Tacomas for the same issue, but for 2011–2017 models, they issued a Limited Service Campaign (K0D) and Customer Support Program (ZKA), which expired after only 12 years (vs. 15 years previously). This was not classified as a recall, despite serious safety concerns. The prior owner appears to have driven zero miles from 2020–2022, when the campaign was active. The vehicle was registered in Vermont, where statewide COVID restrictions closed dealerships and suspended non-essential services. No extension or accommodations were provided by Toyota. I discovered the corrosion on [XXX], during a frame inspection immediately after investing $4,800 in bodywork. The mechanic noted the corrosion was extensive and abnormal for a 2011 model—more consistent with a truck from the 1980s. Toyota’s decision to time this campaign at the height of COVID and shorten the eligibility window appears negligent and possibly strategic. Now in 2025, many owners are finding catastrophic frame rot after Toyota's limited program has ended. I urge NHTSA to investigate this as a true safety defect, not a service courtesy.
