My 2019 Toyota Camry has 75,000 miles and is experiencing a premature and progressive transmission failure that creates serious safety risks. Symptoms include hesitation and loss of power during acceleration, harsh and delayed shifting, RPMs increasing without vehicle movement, failure to properly engage gears (including reverse), and loud whining/grinding noises. These issues make the vehicle unsafe to drive, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or accelerating from a stop. Toyota and the dealership have confirmed the transmission is failing, yet Toyota has stated that no new or used replacement transmission is available and no repair timeline exists. The vehicle was returned to me despite being unsafe. Toyota has provided no transportation assistance, no repair ETA, and no remedy, leaving me with an undrivable vehicle and ongoing financial obligations. I am aware of numerous similar consumer complaints and ongoing litigation involving Toyota’s 8-speed automatic transmissions exhibiting the same symptoms. This appears to be a systemic defect that poses a safety risk to drivers and the public. I am requesting NHTSA review and investigation.

I'm having problems with my paint. It is very fragile. If a mosquito hits it it chips. I took it to the dealership Flagstaff Findlay Toyota in Arizona. They completed an assessment. They said that someone did not put a clearcoat on the car. That is why the paint is defective. The only accident that the car has ever been in was by Findlay Flagstaff Toyota. They dropped my vehicle off the lift when doing an oil change. . The only accident that the car has ever been in was by Findlay Flagstaff Toyota. They dropped my vehicle off the lift when doing a oil change when it was brand new other than that my vehicle has never been in an accident.

The vehicle experienced a malfunction of the 8-speed automatic transmission(UB80E). The transmission began slipping unpredictably, jerking when accelerating from a stop, and shifting extremely harshly between first and second gear. These symptoms occurred randomly and worsened over a short period of time. The vehicle would hesitate or surge when attempting to move from a stop, creating a loss of control risk in traffic and at intersections. Warning indicators, including the check engine light, illuminated as the condition progressed. The issue was reproducible during normal driving and did not develop gradually over extended use. The vehicle became unsafe to operate and is currently undrivable. The transmission has been inspected by manufacturer-affiliated service personnel, who indicated that similar transmission behavior is commonly reported in other vehicle models equipped with the same 8-speed automatic transmission (UB80E), though fewer reports are currently associated with this specific model. This failure presents a safety concern due to unpredictable power delivery, delayed acceleration, and violent low-speed shifting. The vehicle and transmission are available for inspection upon request.

While driving, the vehicle experienced an unintended side airbag deployment without any collision or impact. At the same time, the seatbelt locked, the vehicle came to a sudden stop, and a hybrid system malfunction warning appeared. The vehicle immediately became undrivable and was towed. The vehicle remains available for inspection and is currently under the manufacturer’s control. This sudden failure created a serious safety risk due to the unexpected airbag deployment and loss of vehicle control while driving. As a result of the incident, I sustained physical injuries and sought medical attention. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. The manufacturer has stated they are unable to confirm whether the vehicle is safe to operate and the investigation remains ongoing. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to the failure. The event occurred suddenly and without warning. Law enforcement responded to assist with traffic safety and relocation of the disabled vehicle; no formal accident or crash report was generated.

Four (4) General Tire Reliatrek P205/65R16 95H were purchased on August 6, 2024 at Toyota Greenville located in Greenville, South Carolina, with mileage on my car at 138,174. At my last service in late December 2025, with 175, 777 miles on my car, i was told by Toyota Greenville that two of them needed replaced, with the others marginal. It was recommended by Toyota to have all four replaced. The promised warranty of these tires was 65,000 miles. I only put 37,603 miles on these tires, indicating severe premature wear and manufacturer defect. The tire manufacturer was contacted by Toyota about this safety concern, but little to no compensation was offered. The tires have been serviced at Toyota Greenville, and records can be provided (including photos) since time of purchase.

While accelerating, the transmission is causing a whining sound that is consistent. Vehicle only has 94K miles on it. This is causing safety concerns with premature power train failure that could happen while a driver is in the road, which could lead to an accident. I have taken the vehicle to my local Toyota dealership and they did confirm that this is something they have been very often in the 8th Generation Toyota Camry's. They also confirmed that this is an issue with the transmission and is going into transmission failure. There has been no warning lights or indications for this matter except for the noise you hear while accelerating. After countless hours of research, Toyota has put out a TSB for this issue (TSB-0043-19). Unfortunately, this TSB has not fixed the issue with the power train. Currently, the UA80 8-speed automatic transmission is on a 60-90 day back order for how many transmissions are needing to be replaced for this issue. Not only is this a severe safety concern for the transmission to give out whilst driving in traffic, but it is a financial issue for many drivers having to pay up to $8,000 for this issue to be resolved.

I bought this car used with about 100k miles, took it for a test drive around the block at the local dealership and didn't hear anything at the time. When I took it on the freeway for the first time I heard the Whining noise. It only happens when there is a load on the transmission and gets louder as the speed increases. On top of that, it seems like it starts out in second or third gear sometimes I can't move until it downshifts which is extremely dangerous considering I've been sticking out in the street and other cars are coming! This apparently was a new design starting in 2018 and many people have been cursed by this transmission the more I keep reading up on this. I've owned many toyotas in the past and I've never had any issues, especially with the transmission. I've been quoted anywhere from $6k to $10k to replace the transmission and I cannot even remotely be able to afford that at this time. I feel like I'm driving a ticking time bomb, I need to listen to music to not drive me nuts and I can still hear the whine! If it weren't for this problem I couldn't really have any other complaints, but unfortunately this is a Very Big problem. The more I read this was a first year design and it looks like it failed miserably, I would call it a lemon. Every day I drive this car it slips while shifting gears, shifts too often or not enough. This thing should be replaced. Please, I am a loyal Toyota customer and hate that this has changed my mind. Please replace these faulty 8 speed transmissions.

I am reporting a safety-related transmission failure in my 2019 Toyota. The vehicle suddenly lost the ability to drive forward without any warning. There were no check engine lights, warning lights, or alerts before or during the failure. The vehicle would only go in reverse and became completely undrivable. At the time of the failure, my children and my elderly mother were in the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk. Had this occurred in traffic or at an intersection, it could have resulted in an accident. After the failure, I contacted over 30 transmission shops and mechanics, and none are willing to rebuild or repair the transmission due to known and recurring issues with this Toyota transmission model. I contacted Toyota directly and was provided a repair estimate of approximately $8,000, which is unreasonable for a 2019 vehicle and makes repair financially impossible. The vehicle was towed and remains undrivable. I am currently paying $30 per day for a rental vehicle, causing financial hardship. I am submitting this complaint so this issue is documented as a potential safety defect

There is a transmission shudder when traveling around 30-40 MPH as well as sporadically when increasing speed. Recently, there is a very hard shift/jolt when transmission is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. The issue is caused by a combination of a faulty torque converter and a software glitch in the engine control module (ECM). This is a safety hazard, and I contacted Toyota dealership in Vineland who told me that they can't do anything. However, to fix the problem that Toyota issued the recall themselves, Toyota dealers need to replace to the torque converter and update the ECM software. I am reaching out to the NHTSA because this is a safety hazard, and I hope you are able to help me.

The 2026 toyota suddenly accelerated when pulling into a handicap space. Suddenly the vehicle jumped the concrete barrier and sidewalk and hit a building. The airbags did not deploy and the seat belts came off as normal. The building was not damaged but my wife sustained a shoulder injury and whiplash. The vechicle was towed from the scene and is at Collison Center where the collison occurred. Note: 2026 is when all electronic components were engineered into the vehicle. The vehicle has not been started since the accident. The outcome could have resulted in a life altering injury or death. The problem has not been reproduced as the vehicle is not driveable. The vehicle was purchased the 14 miles on it. As of today 1/16/2026, we are not aware of any vehicle inspection. Our insurance company told us they would not pay for the download of the black box but we could if we would like. We decided to hire a person to download the black box and give us the results of the download. This is to occur on January 20, 2026. There were no warning indicators prior to the sudden acceleration. No cautionary lights came on and continued application of the brakes did not slow the vehicle. No dash lights were on after the sudden acceleration.

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK , ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON MY DASHBOARD AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELARATE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE CAR WAS AGAIN DRIVABLE, HOWEVER ALL THE LIGHTS WERE ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO MY MECHANIC AND DROPPED THE CAR OFF, FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE NEXT DAY I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ERROR CODE CAME UP AS SLIPPAGE AND HE RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR ONLY HAS AROUND 130,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE READ THAT THERE ARE CLASS ACTION SUITS AGAINST TOYOTA, AND MY CAR MAKE AND MODEL ARE IN THE GROUP. HOWEVER I CAN NOT FIND AN ACTIVE CLASS ACTION SUIT TO JOIN, AS I JUST WANT MY CAR FIXED AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, ESPECIALLY IF TOYOTA KNEW THIS TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY.

My 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid XSE (VIN 4T1DAACKXTU213841) purchased on September 26/2025 is subject to Safety Recall 25TA15 / NHTSA ID 25V869 for a loose inverter bolt that can cause loss of motive power or fire. Toyota says no remedy is available until at least Q1 2026. I transport my minor child in this vehicle and do not feel safe operating it with a known and unresolved fire/crash risk. I am reporting this defect and lack of remedy.
