While approaching an intersection light, that was turning red, I suddenly heard the car beeping rapidly and all the red warning lights on the dashboard behind the wheel went off and the vehicle stalled. Luckily the intersection light was red, so everyone was coming to a halt. I do remember the dash board becoming blank, like there was no power. I had to turn the car's power ON button several times before I could shift into Drive. In the meantime, the traffic light turned green and I was still trying to switch the car to Drive mode. Finally it did and we drove the next 4 hours without issues. When the car stalled we were already running in hybrid mode as we had driven 250 miles prior to that and there wasn't much charge in the battery other than what the car maintains when it switches from EV to Hybrid mode. If this would have happened where we were at higher speeds, like on a highway, then we were at very high risk of being in an accident and someone could have gotten hurt for sure. We were very lucky that the car in front of us and behind us were all slowing down, because we were approaching an intersection where the light was turning red. So fortunately the car stalling didn't cause an accident even though it was in the middle of the road. We did take the car in to KIA service and they scanned all systems and found a history code MFC (C183186) which I was told, means the car lost communication with navigation. They recorded the code and cleared it since then. They could not repeat the incident and have no idea why it happened.

The contact owns a 2023 Kia Niro. The contact stated that while attempting to shift into drive (D), the transmission failed to shift to the intended gear. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,300.

I have been a Lyft driver for over 2 years, and because of the mileage I put on mile personal vehicle. I had to result to renting a vehicle from Lyft Flex Drive Rental, located at 2214 Century Center Blvd Irving, TX 75062. 0n 05/15/2023 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Right after dropping off passenger, and on my way to pick up another one. The vehicle mentioned hereof suddenly blew up out of no where. My personal property in the vehicle was destroyed , and almost loss my life! However, Lyft is suggesting I pay over a thousand dollars. When it wasn't my fault the car blew up. Moreover, their stagnating me from getting back to work, and not allowing me to rent a car from Lyft Fleet . Because supposedly the car hasn't been totaled out yet. Despite it as been weeks since the incident occurred. I also took my vehicle to Lyft Flex shop for a check up the previous week before the incident occurred. My Please see photos attached! The dash is textured. In direct sunlight, the texture reflects on the windshield and makes it difficult to see. The other day I came close to hitting a pedestrian because I didn’t them. It is so dangerous!

Main screen goes blank randomly and also randomly switches between android auto and normal. This disrupts navigation and other functions and is both distracting and disruptive to driving which is dangerous. Dealership said there is no fix from Kia at this point so advised to file a complaint.

The contact owns a 2019 Kia Niro. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine seized. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into gear. The check regenerative braking system message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transition motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

The car can slow down suddenly in the middle of traffic even if I accelerate. The engine has a problem according to the mechanics who was trying to fix my car twice without succes. The car does not hold coolant liquid for more than 15 minutes. It looks like the coolant is staying somewhere in the engine. It overheats too. Yes the car is available for inspection upon request. It's a high risk because the car can suddenly slow down in the middle of traffic or when leaving a light turned green. And the last time I drove it there a weird smell. Yes, an independant service center located at College Park Maryland informed me about the issue. The vheicle or compenent has not been inspected yet by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative or others. When the car starts slowing down in the middle of traffic, I feel a kind of vibration first on the gas peddale and comes up the engine light. This happened last month

While slowing down (without bringing it to a full stop) to make a left turn, car dies, losses all propulsion power just coasts. First it happened intermittently than more often. First it happened in low speed later even with highway speed. After bringing it to a park position and restarting car it will run fine until another incident.

I called my local Dealer Nationwide Kia in Timonium Maryland to get an appointment for the required recall. They have so far have been unresponsive, so I called Kia in California. I got a case # of [XXX] after waiting 1:30 mins on the phone. Called back the next week and they said they called the dealer and got no answer but left a message and they sent an email. Called back the next week and they said the dealer never responded and they sent another email. Called back today and sat on the phone with Kia California for another hour and they never answered. I'm very upset that i can't seem to get an appointment for a safety recall, what good does a recall do if the dealer won't answer me and the Kia Zone office can't force them into action. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
There have been days where the weather starts out to be low to no rain or snow and then while driving from Kenosha, WI to Milwaukee, WI the rain or snow gets heavier or mild and the smart cruise control will stop and say radar blocked and it will disable the use of it and disable regenitive braking as well. So if you are driving doing 70+ the speed limit on the interstate all of a sudden it will terminate without any warning and now all of a sudden the car behind you is in your truck space so you have to excellerate extremely to avoid getting hit. THis is a extreme safety hazard.

On December 17, 2022, we were stopped at a traffic light with an Accurate behind us. A Chevy Silverado Truck, driven by a drunk driver, at a high rate of speed, rear ended the car behind us and sent that car into our rear end. The impact was so forceful it blew out all our windows and tires. the truck went airborne, landed on its side and then spun into the drivers side front end. We the spun and hit the Accra on our front passenger side.The man in the car behind us died before paramedics arrived. Our airbags did not deploy and the passenger seat broke sending my husband into the back seat despite being seat belted in. He sustained a head injury requiring 3 staples and back injuries. When coming to a stop, the car will jerk forward with a loud clack sound. Sometimes it's mild, but other times it is as if the car had been rear-ended, causing it to lurch forward abruptly. There is no rhyme or reason to when it will happen, but it is always when coming to a stop, usually at a very slow speed.

ENGINE
On Kia Niro, there is a part called the Exhaust Heat Recovery System (EHRS). This part pumps coolant into the exhaust system. If this particular piece fails, coolant in then pumped into the exhaust, burned up, and exits through the tail pipe. This piece failed on my car, which lead to coolant being burned in the tailpipe without my knowledge, which ultimately lead to no coolant in the engine and overheating and breaking down on the highway. After a full engine replacement, my car is still rapidly going through coolant. I imagine that this could lead to a car fire. I still have the faulty part installed in my car, however I am looking to replace it asap. While not 100% confirmed, my dealer is "pretty sure" that piece is what is causing the rapid loss of coolant in my car. This piece has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms to alert me to this problem. I only found out about this piece and its failure rate after a full engine replacement.

On Friday, December 9, 2022, the heating element in the driver side seat burned through the cushion, burned a hole in my coat, and burned my right leg. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. Thursday, January 5, 2023, the service department at Kia confirmed the heated seat element had gotten too hot and burned through the seat. Service personnel said the part that needed to be replaced was not under warranty and quoted prices ranging from $600-$1,700 to have it repaired. Other than the service department at Lithia Kia of Anchorage, no other inspection has been done. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. In fact the car had been in the shop the week prior and had a courtesy vehicle inspection.

The contact owns a 2020 Kia Niro. The contact stated that after charging the battery to 80 percent, the vehicle immediately turned off while reversing out of the charging station. After restarting the vehicle and driving, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who cleared the failure codes and tested drove the vehicle, but no failure was identified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,972.

POWER TRAIN
Within the first 6 months of owning our 2019 Kia Plugin Hybrid, we started experiencing a clunk with a lurch when accelerating from a stopped position. The issue became progressively worse over time - increasing in frequency and severity. The car has been to the Kia Lupient dealership in Brooklyn Park, MN multiple times for this issue. At our most recent visit on November 7th, 2022, the service advisor acknowledged that the issue may be due to shipping the vehicle with the wrong transmission fluid. The transmission fluid was replaced with the correct fluid. However, we experienced the issue again on December 2, 2022. Could the wrong fluid have caused permanent damage to the transmission? This Technical Service Bulletin (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10174520-0001.pdf) indicates that could be true. We are pursing arbitration with the dealership.
