Follow-Up Complaint – Engine Failure on 2020 Hyundai Palisade (VIN: [XXX] ) I am following up on a previous complaint regarding a complete engine failure in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. I purchased the vehicle from CarMax in 2023 and was never made aware of any known engine issues. I also signed the required Lemon Law disclosure form at purchase, which did not indicate any concerns with the engine. My vehicle experienced a sudden and total engine failure, despite being properly maintained. This failure mirrors the symptoms of engine problems that have led to multiple Hyundai recalls in other models with similar engine configurations. Although my VIN is not included in the current recall list, my engine failure is consistent with those affected, indicating a broader issue that Hyundai has not fully addressed. The engine failed prematurely and unexpectedly, which is both a serious safety hazard and a financial burden. I am now stuck with an inoperable vehicle and costly repair needs due to a failure that appears to stem from a manufacturer defect. This situation reflects a pattern of engine-related issues across Hyundai vehicles. I urge NHTSA to investigate whether the 2020 Palisade should be included in Hyundai’s ongoing or expanded recalls. The shocks have failed and are noticably loud and will drop out hard whenever there is any bump which while turning could cause serious safety issues. This has been a common issue from what I have seen.

SERVICE BRAKES
I bought my 2024 Hyundai Palisade new in May of 2024 because of the safety features and impeccable safety ratings. Since purchasing this vehicle, I’ve had multiple instances of the brakes not engaging when I’m driving on uneven terrain, the most recent event was today while my young daughter was in the car. I live in a fairly rural area and frequently drive over railroad tracks as part of my daily commute. I’ve been driving for 20 years and NEVER had a car that had a braking issue. I’ve almost rear ended multiple people because of this. When crossing the railroad tracks, if all four wheels are not on flat ground the brakes will not engage. The car lurches forward and it will take double or triple the distance to stop the vehicle. It doesn’t do it every time, and has done it going as slow as 12 mph. There is currently a class action lawsuit filed in NY and OH that states Hyundai was aware of this issue during production and failed to tell anyone. I paid over 60k for this vehicle and Hyundai of Gainesville Ga is refusing to help me stating they don’t know of anyone having this issue and cannot replicate it. I’m going to end up rear ending someone because no one will hold Hyundai accountable. Please please help me. I have a little one to keep safe!

The seatbelt sensor kept going off even though seatbelt appears to be buckled. Dealership identified that seatbelt buckle was not operating correctly and not clicking all the way. This put my kids unknowingly at risk.

I have a 2024 Palisade, and any small bump, pothole, or lane bump causes my steering wheel to shake uncontrollably. If I go over a speed bump or come down an incline, the brakes make a rumbling sound, and if I try to brake, the brakes stutter and just shake. I’ve almost hit a car in front of me a few times because it didn’t want to stop. This is a very expensive SUV to be having these issues, and it’s a major safety concern.

Left rear break calipers are frozen, wearing down the break pad and rotors within 1 day, breaks grinding metal on metal. When brought into Autozone they stated they had 8 other palisades this month alone with the same exact problem. There were no lights, warning or messages to the system. Vehicle was driving fine earlier in the day.

While approaching a stop sign we hit a small crack in the roadway while applying the brakes. The brake pedal started pulsing and the vehicle would not stop. Luckily there were no cars approaching because we rolled thru the stop sign. This is the second time in a month this has happened. Apparently the manufacturer is aware of the issue but have not seen any type of recall.

ABS system engaging at unpredictable times. Unable to stop. Have slid into intersection when braking with perfect road conditions. Feels like I hit ice in 100 degree weather. SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Sometimes when trying to break on uneven surfaces the break seems to fail, shaking the car as if trying to break multiple times, which results in the car continue moving sometimes 10 feet over the stop sign, for example. The uneven does not need to be gravel, just minor bumps on the road sometimes trigger this issue, which makes me scared that I'll end up in an accident, as I already had a near miss one. This has happened now multiple times and is making me scared to drive. I took the car to Huyndai on 08/15 and they were able to reproduce the same issue, saying that it seems to be a misreading from the ABS system, but added that the car and its systems are functioning as per the designed specifications and there was nothing they could do. Their solution was to advise me to use more caution when breaking, avoiding sudden breaks and to allow for increased breaking distances, but this absolutely does not resolve the issue and places the responsibility to resolve the issue on the customer, which is absurd. I should add that the many times this issue happened to me, I was driving at very slow speeds (max was like 20 mph) and was slowly stopping at the stops signs of my gym center and the parking lot of my work, which leads to a busy highway. I am afraid one day I won't be able to stop the car and end up going into the highway and cause an accident hurting both myself and other people. This is incredibly irresponsible of Hyundai, it's playing with people's safety. I would have not bought this car had I known this was an issue.

My car has been diagnosed, by a dealership, with excessive oil consumption due to a faulty piston ring which caused there to be no compression in cylinder 1. Initially my car had smoke coming from the tailpipe, then it started to shake while idling and the check engine light came on (delearship cleared it), then it overheated on me while going down the road with no warning whatsoever. Each time there was no oil on the lipstick. This is dangerous for people to not have any warning as to when the car is going to overheat until its already overheating. It could potentially set on fire while going down the highway with my [XXX] and [XXX] old. As soon as I put oil in it, it runs totally fine. I have voice recordings to confirm the diagnosis. This issue is concerning the sunroof. Hyundai released a TSB on the sunroof wind deflectors but not yet a recall even though so many people have been impacted by it. The TSB states: “ On certain Palisade (LX2) vehicles, the sunroof wind deflector may malfunction and cause damage to the sunroof mechanism. The sunroof may be inoperable and become stuck in the open, partially open, or closed position.” Mine became inoperable and would not close which could cause safety issues with wind noise, rain coming into the car and other debris
