Last year in 2024 we had to take our Honda Odyssey into the Honda dealership because something was going wrong with the engine. It ended up being a few of the cylinders and they went bad. They had to rebuild part of the engine.

The van's LKAS camera has malfunctioned. This has disabled not only LKAS but cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, and rear cross traffic. There is also a brake system failure light active on the digital dashboard. The failure of the LKAS camera has affected numerous Honda vehicles, not only the Odyssey, and across many model years. The part is available for inspection; #36160-THR-A81. The failure of the component has disabled key federally required safety features of the vehicle. The problem has been inspected by a Honda dealership. The repair cost is over $2,000. No warning lights nor error messages appeared before the failure of the component. It's demise presented as an intermittent error for 2 months before becoming permanent.

I am reporting a recurring safety defect in the 2016 Honda Odyssey Touring involving the backup camera display system. The issue causes the camera feed to unexpectedly go completely blank when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. This failure appears to be triggered by short stops or intermittent use, as would happen when parking, dropping off passengers or similar manouvers and the only way to restore functionality is to turn off and restart the entire vehicle. This behavior is not isolated. Multiple owners have documented identical symptoms on public forums (e.g., OdyClub), suggesting a systemic software flaw in the infotainment system. The failure disables a federally mandated safety feature (FMVSS 111), creating a hazardous condition for drivers, pedestrians, and nearby vehicles. I have experienced this multiple times with the latest occurrence on 9/10/25 as I was attempting to back into a parking space.

The multipurpose camera in mounted underneath the rearview mirror stopped working. No apparent reason for the malfunction to shut the vehicle off while filling gas and then five different warning lights occurred, including issues with lane keep assist, adaptive, cruise control, automatic, breaking, and several other safety features no explanation for the failure when that vehicle was taken to the dealer and currently being charged $2500 for a replacement of the camera and labor associated with the repair. My belief is that the system is malfunctioning due to overheating, which is a design issue associated with the vehicle and isn’t something that I should be responsible for.

The vehicle would not accelerate while merging onto Interstate and it made a grinding sound. It hesitated for about 5 seconds and was able to finally pick up speed and merge. It is very scary when my vehicle does this.

When attempting to restart from the autostop function (i.e. the fuel economy function), the vehicle fails to restart successfully. This has happened on multiple occasions. It is not a battery problem and I have had the battery tested and even replaced (by Honda) and the problem has continued. The vehicle will stutter, stall or even completely shut down. This has happened when I have been at intersections and on busier roads or even in traffic on the highway. Its very concerning to me and seems extremely unsafe. No warning signs come in this scenario until the vehicle shuts down and the regular dash light engages indicating the engine is inoperable. I have today's date below but this has been happening consistently the last several months.

When turning on vehicle the attached picture’s warning lights show on dashboard. Unable to reset them. Vehicles collision sensor not engaged when driving. Road departure will not activate when vehicle drifts of interstate lanes. Cruise control will not work at all. Brake system light will not reset even when brakes and fluids are good. With all these issues, vehicle safety devices don’t provide any safety. These could result in bodily injury and even death.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX]) experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to a spun connecting rod bearing in Cylinder 4. While driving, the engine suddenly began making a loud knocking/tapping noise. I immediately drove the vehicle to the Honda dealer, and as I was pulling into the service bay, the engine completely seized. The dealer confirmed that the engine suffered a spun bearing in Cylinder 4, with severe crankshaft and connecting rod damage. The failed parts and metal debris in the oil system are available for inspection if requested. This failure occurred without any prior warning lights, messages, or check engine indicators. There was no advance notice other than the sudden onset of knocking just before failure. The defect caused loss of engine power and risk of stalling in traffic, which could have easily resulted in a crash or fire. This type of failure is consistent with Honda Recall 23V-751, which covers connecting rod bearing defects caused by crankshaft machining errors, and also matches the ongoing NHTSA investigation into premature rod bearing failures in Honda Odyssey and other models. However, my VIN is currently excluded from the recall. I request that NHTSA review this case as potential evidence that the recall should be expanded to include additional Odyssey vehicles. My Van has only 110,000 miles on it. Yesterday I was driving my family home from a sports event my wife myself and my four kids. I got a flashing check engine light and was able to pull over, but it was an unsafe area on the side of the interstate. After sitting there for a while. we were able to get the vehicle to Honda. Honda is telling me that it is bad rod bearings. But that my vehicle falls outside of the recall that is already issued for bad rod bearings in a van that is the same year as mine. This rod bearing issue put myself and my kids in an unsafe position.

The Auto Engine Idle Stop causes the car to die while at stop lights, stop signs, in the middle of intersections. Etc. when disengaging the AIS the engine stutters and then displays “Shift to Park” then it says to push the brake to start the car but it doesn’t always start up. Sometimes it requires opening the door. Sometimes the collision mitigation system turns off after as well. And the entertainment display turns off or says “No Audio”

- #11685577September 7, 2025ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
On [XXX], while driving my wife to the RDU airport, our Odyssey's engine failed to restart after an Auto Idle Stop (AIS) at a busy intersection in Greensboro. Instead of starting, the dashboard displayed a Collision Mitigation System Problem alert, the Drive ("D") indicator light started flashing, and then the dashboard displayed a "Shifting to Park: Apply Brake Pedal" message. We were stranded at a busy stoplight, at the front of a dedicated left-turn lane, unable to drive or shift to park as instructed. The only way to resolve the issue was to hold the Start/Stop button for several seconds to shut the vehicle off. And the vehicles behind us had to swerve around us because our malfunctioning vehicle was blocking the lane. This problem has recurred semi-regularly since [XXX], forcing us to manually disable the Auto Idle Stop feature on every drive to prevent being stranded in traffic. An independent mechanic found no stored diagnostic codes but identified relevant Honda Technical Service Bulletins (23-008 and 23-009) addressing similar AIS failures. A Honda service center misdiagnosed the issue as a faulty battery, but subsequent testing by the independent shop confirmed the battery was in excellent working order. The actual Auto Idle Stop malfunction remains undiagnosed. The vehicle and its Auto Idle Stop system remain available for inspection. This issue appears to be part of the ongoing NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25-004. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This vehicle had the recall repaired for the Most Bus cable issue that Honda has. Now they vehicle is back having the same issue and Honda has not done another recall for the issue starting again for the same thing this is a safety issue. You lose all rear warnings cameras and detection. Honda will not repair the recalled issue again. They have not properly fixed it.

2018 Honda Odyssey gear shifting switch letters are rubbing off. This caused the drive to click wrong button as they do not have letters to identify the functionality of the each button. This can cause accidents. I see many online forums customers are discussing the same issue. [XXX] [XXX] / [XXX] [XXX] This is manufacture defect and please be kind to investigate it. I have maintained 2018 Honda Odyssey regularly, getting it serviced when or before it was due. A month ago (at 90K) miles, we started to hear a noise in the engine. I took it to Honda and they said that I need an entirely new (rebuilt) engine. I did see there was a safety recall report 23V-751 regarding crank pins that were produced out of specification. This did cover some 2018 Honda engines, but my VIN was not one of them. Is there any possibility that this deffect could have effected other Honda engines of the same year? My engine should not be failing at 7 years and 90k miles. Currently the vehicle is not being driven until we figure out the best course of action.

I was driving about 15 mph in my neighborhood when my passenger side mirror exploded and flew onto my passenger side door/window. It hit so hard that it left a scratch on the window and on the paint.

I think there is a problem with the Auto Idle Stop system that has resulted in the starter needing to be replaced. But, the dealership says nothing is wrong. The Auto Idle Stop malfunction lights up when I let off the brake. I have gotten in the habit of turning off the AIS every time I started the car. However, it still is hesitating to start, which leads me to believe the AIS has killed the starter.
