Date/Time: XXX, 10:08 AM Location: AutoNation Honda, [XXX] Vehicle: 2019 Honda Odyssey (fuel pump previously replaced under prior Honda recall) Summary: •Refueled vehicle the prior day; strong gasoline odor present in cabin immediately after and persisting overnight. •Odor remained strong the following day — described as intoxicating, required driving with windows down in 100°+ heat to reach the dealership. •Brought vehicle to AutoNation Honda for inspection. •Dealer staff initially attributed the smell to a change in Arizona gasoline ethanol content, stating it was “not a car issue, a gas issue.” •Spoke with Mike, Service Manager, who stated the dealership has inspected approximately 40 similar vehicles with the same complaint and found no resolution. •Mike indicated Honda (the manufacturer) is aware of the issue and is working on a fix, but does not currently have one. •No diagnostic inspection of this vehicle has been performed as of this note (10:08 AM). •Requested a loaner vehicle due to the vehicle being unsafe to drive with children present. Loaner was declined. •Requested the refusal be provided in writing/email. Dealer declined to provide anything in writing. •Mike texted his next-level contact regarding the issue; response indicated AutoNation/dealer has received no official communication from Honda (manufacturer) regarding this issue. •As of 10:08 AM: vehicle has not been diagnosed, no loaner has been provided, and no official Honda guidance has been given to the dealership. ENGINE
While driving the engine unexpectedly, it was having problems going over certain RPMs. It sounded very loud.. brought it into Honda of Denton, Texas. They examined it and said there was metal shards in my oil in my engine that something was broken. I needed a complete new engine.. 2019 Honda has a bearing recall for the engine when it fails it causes metal shards in the engine. They told me that my Vin was not covered in this recall, and they could not repair it even though this exactly what has failed in my engine..

Auto idle system shuts down and stalled vehicle on intersections twice. Had battery replaced. Continued. Replaced starter (around 15,000 miles) Now at 34,000 miles it is starting to do it all over again. Stalled at intersection, battery sluggish. I turn off the auto idle system as soon as I start the car, but cannot remember to do so every time. Extreme safety issue where I live in major stop and go traffic with multiple children in my vehicle at all times. They are currently checking battery and starter again. No codes ever came on to indicate issues. Vehicle just stopped when auto idle engaged.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the passenger’s side doors failed to open while pressing the power door button and while attempting to open the doors manually. The contact stated that the children had to crawl through the rear cargo door to enter the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,183.

I was leaving a parking lot when I heard a very loud bang. My vehicle then continued to make noises when going over bumps. I brought the van to a Honda dealership where it was identified both rear coil springs broke at the base and need replacement.

2024 Honda Odyssey with only 24K miles has a leak in the tailgate from bad welding in the body that is gathering water in the trunk. Safety isn’t at risk but I would say that the corrosion to any electrical items are at risk which will put me and my family and others at risk of something failing. Yes the problem has been reproduced and it’s a common thread on the internet. We will be taking it to the dealership to inspect since it’s still under warranty. No messaging of this from the car except the fowl odor.

Our 2025 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped. This has occurred approximately 10 times. The vehicle was previously taken to an authorized Honda dealership for this issue. The dealership diagnosed the battery as the cause and replaced it, but the same problem continued afterward. The two most recent incidents occurred on 7/21. During one incident, we were stopped at a red light on a road with a 55-mph speed limit. The vehicle shut off and did not restart normally when traffic began moving. We were left immobilized in an active traffic lane while vehicles approached and passed us at approximately 55 mph. We had difficulty getting the vehicle restarted and moving again. This presents a serious rear-end collision risk because approaching drivers expect traffic to move when the light changes. Four children regularly ride in this vehicle, and we do not believe it is safe to continue driving. We contacted the Honda dealership again after the battery replacement failed to correct the problem. We were told that unless technicians could duplicate the issue, there was nothing further they could do. Because the failure is intermittent, we cannot predict when it will occur, but it has happened approximately 10 times and has continued after Honda’s attempted repair. We also opened a case with American Honda Motor Co., Inc. We are reporting this because the vehicle can unexpectedly leave our family stranded in an active traffic lane and unable to move out of the path of approaching traffic.

While the vehicle’s idle stop feature was engaged at a stop light, I took my foot off the brake to start moving again, but instead of starting again, the engine hard stopped and the van turned off completely. It told me to push the brake and start button to start it again but it took trying that several times and eventually holding the brake and start button down before it actually turned back on. Meanwhile, drivers stuck behind me were becoming increasingly irate and people were trying to get around me, despite heavy traffic. This is the second time it’s happened to me in this car. The first was about a month ago.

With idle start/stop enabled, there have been multiple occasions where the system has not restarted, causing my wife to almost get into an accident with my two young daughters in the car. Honda has looked at it on two occasions and claims there is no issue. However when researching this online, it has let me to find a NHTSA investigation, as well as hundreds of complaints about this are found online.

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and attempting to place her [XXX] child in the rear passenger’s side seat, the contact touched the door handle, unlocking the door, and placed the bag with the key fob on the floor of the rear passenger’s side. The contact walked around to the driver's side door, and the door was locked. The contact returned to the rear passenger side of the vehicle and became aware that the door was locked. The contact attempted to enter the vehicle but was unsuccessful. The contact called the Fire Department, and the front passenger window was broken to enter the vehicle. A Police report was taken, but the information was not available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. My 2025 Honda Oddessy with only about 31,000 has stalled in the last 2-3 months about 5 times at stop signs/stop lights. It throws itself in park and doesn't recognize that I'm pushing any buttons. On the dash it only says "press the brake" which I am doing. I called Victory City Honda in Michigan City, IN [XXX]) and arranged a diagnostics check on XXX. They said it wasn't throwing codes and didn't replicate when they test drove the vehicle. If I turn off the auto start/stop it doesn't seem to happen but if I forget to push this button each and every drive - it stalls and won't start for up to 10 minutes. Once we were parking at home and it would not allow us to shut the vehicle off. Upon research I found NHTSA investigation ID#XXX with the exact problem I am experiencing. I called my Honda dealor to report and they stated they are not able to do any software updates without a Honda recall. I have another appointment with them on XXX to check the battery and possibly the brake pedal sensor. Please help. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When we are idling (at a red light), the engine will suddenly stop. We believe this is the feature of the start-stop system used to save gasoline. We will then have to completely restart the car as the car has been turned off. This creates a huge safety hazard at intersections. We have asked Honda about it twice now and currently replacing the starter. Our car is a little over 3 years ago with about 40k miles. The starter should not be failing at this point and we believe it is due to this start stop issue. The starter cost us $1400 in a car that is just over 3 years old with about 40k miles.

When I stopped at a stoplight at a busy intersection during rush hour traffic my auto shut off engaged like it was supposed to. When I released my foot off the brake for the car to restart so I could drive the car's dash started flashing and displaying instructions to engage the brake and put the car into drive, except I was in drive. It would not restart and no matter how many times I pressed the brake and the drive button nothing changed and it kept flashing the same message at me. I attempted to the the car off and when I tried to restart it, it flashed the battery light and would not restart. All electrical systems would turn on, but the car would not restart. It took a solid 5 minutes and turning the car off and on for it to finally restart. Then subsequent times at following lights before I turn the auto shut off off it would restart but struggled to. I have taken it to the dealership and called Honda Corporate and both tell me it is not throwing a code and therefore nothing is wrong with it.

While driving my 2019 Honda Odyssey at highway speeds on the 60 freeway, the vehicle experienced a sudden and total engine failure/stall without prior warning. I had all my kids in the car as well. CHP advised to call Honda The sudden stalling resulted in an immediate loss of engine power, creating an unsafe scenario on a high-speed freeway. I was forced to navigate the vehicle across traffic lanes to pull over onto the shoulder safely.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Front camera intermittently works after NHTSA Recall Number 26V-227 software update. ADAS systems may turn on or off while driving. This issue may not have anything to do with the update, but Honda is aware of the front camera problem. Affects: Auto High-Beam Problem Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Lane Keeping Assist Problem Collision Mitigation System Problem Road Departure Mitigation System Problem There has been a class action lawsuit filed against Honda by California June 2026.
