We were out side. My engine wouldn’t start and fuel pump and battery lights lit up on desk board. I asked for help and was able to jumpstart the car- I started driving with my kids in car seats and on freeway 7-8 minutes after starting car it went to Neutral while driving its own. And speed went down its own to 20 MPh from 60 on freeway. Was able to mange to mange to take nearest exit and go to nearest open parking lot. Where was not able to shut down the car or put it in the park. I called my insurance to tow my car. And also called family member. Who came and after locking and unlocking they were able to turn off the car. And also start the car. So stared car again this time it shows only “ engine light on and emission issues “ no battery sign. and and in 3 mins in the driving again went to Neutral again. Again we had to find emergency parking lot. Turned off the car and turned on again. And then drove to home with 20 MPH. As soon as speed goes up it goes to neutral. I tried to drive to Bell Honda dealer to drop off my car and again went to neutral so had to towed my car to them. I have asked them to help me with recall issues but they said they don’t have any parts yet from Honda itself and will be available in August or September . I am really concerned with my experience that I had with my kids in car seats on freeway. And seems like I’m not getting any help to get it repair. Also thinking that this might be battery issue but I have replaced my battery in 2020 and again in September 2022 and Honda dealer said we have to change the battery again. I am really concerned that with barely 40k miles on my car - new model 2019 and in 5 yrs this is the 3rd time battery replacement required. And the fuel recall they are not able to fix given Honda is not able to provide the part. Please help

Around November 2023 I took my 2019 Honda Odyssey to Glockner Honda in Portsmouth, Ohio about an issue with the engine. I was told by Andy Schmidt and his Honda-certified technicians that the problem is the same as the one that is coming out for a recall in January 2024. I parked my Odyssey until January and took it back to Glockner Honda expecting it to be a part of the recall. I have waited for 6 months for it to be included or for Honda to agree to repair the vehicle. I have been told on multiple occasions by certified technicians and management at Glockner Honda that this is a manufacturing defect and they do not understand why it is not part of the recall. The recall is the same year, made, model, and problem as I am experiencing. I finally got verbal confirmation (Honda refuses to put it in writing) that they will not cover the full cost of the repair. I provided an estimate of the repair to the manufacturing defect to them from Glockner Honda. I demand that they pay for this defect. Also, they refuse to provide any information or explanation as to why my particular 2019 Honda Odyssey is not part of the recall. Please make them pay for this defect in the manufacturing process.

The transmission on this van has acceleration issues. When trying to accelerate the van will on occasion have hesitation of a few seconds. This has left me in situations when merging where I have almost been hit. The acceleration at times is not responsive. I’ve noticed it when trying to apply urgent acceleration, such as trying to cross an intersection, and when I accelerate a little, let off the gas, and accelerate again. A Google search finds many people with the same issue. This is a major safety concern since the van does not apply acceleration when expected and can leave a person vulnerable to being hit. This has been happening to me for years but I didn’t know I could report this. Happened today.

I bought the 2005 Odyssey van in 12/2015. It now has 192,426 miles on it. Three or four times every year since I bought it, the engine will suddenly surge when coming to a stop sign or light, with my right foot on the brake pedal, braking and slowing the van for the stop sign or light. The engine revs to about 5000 or 6000 RPMs. It is as if the engine is flooring the gas pedal. Every time, I have been able to push the brake pedal down hard, even though the car continues to slowly roll forward, and shove it into neutral. I have to then tap the gas pedal to stop the engine accelerating. It then goes back to idling normally. Note, it even happened to me one time when I put it into reverse while parking! So very scary each and every time it happens. On [XXX], I took the van to Don Jacobs Honda Dealership, Lexington, KY. They said there were no reports of this ever happening to anyone else. They charged me $3216.06, with most of the cost for a new timing belt/water pump and a valve adjustment. When their repairs did not solve the problem, I called them. They said they would like to put a monitor on the van and drive it until the surge happened again. I told them to let me drive the van with the monitor, as the next surge might not happen for several months, and I needed to drive the van on a daily basis for work. They said they weren't allowed to let customers use the monitor! I finally had time today to research the surging problem. I noticed on [XXX] that this problem with Honda has never been figured out or fixed! And it keeps happening on even newer Honda Odysseys! I now have the resources to quit driving this van. I would be willing to donate the van to the NHTSA so that they may research and try to figure out how to stop this defect! No telling how many people have been injured or killed due to this defect. - #11590581May 24, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The present complaint alleges as follows: 1. Honda has a defective design in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) of all Honda Odysseys, models 2018-2023. 2. Namely, Honda has placed the RADAR behind the large HONDA emblem on the front grille. This causes the radar to give a "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning, which disables all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the car (Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning). 3. The "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning cannot be reset by restarting the vehicle or disconnecting the battery, requiring recalibration of the RADAR at the cost of $800 each time since it takes several hours to do (per Dealership). 4. The official Honda Odyssey Forum online has countless complaints on the same issue without resolution by Honda. 5. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers since this defect impacts the vehicle's advanced safety features for which buyers incur additional expenses, endangering the lives of passengers. 6. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers by designing a system that requires continuous and substantial expenditures without resolution because it is an engineering problem, i.e., the placement of the radar behind the large, thick plastic H emblem obstructs the radar. 7. I hereby ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue and order Honda to offer a solution in the form of a RECALL that permanently addresses the problem.

At around 25 miles per hour the vehicle has a transmission issue where the vehicle seems to hesitate, then downshift causing the vehicle to lurch forward. This happens regularly and started sometime before I acquired the vehicle with 48k miles. Honda dealer had no fix to the problem.

Occasionally, when the driver presses the accelerator, the car hesitates for about 1-3 seconds before accelerating. This most commonly happens when starting up from a stop sign or red light and after letting off the accelerator to slow down temporarily and then pressing the accelerator to speed up. This has been happening for at least a year or two. I recently received a safety recall notice from Honda saying that if I were experiencing this symptom, I needed to contact a dealer to have it repaired for free (with "FREE" in bold, red, and underlined letters). However, when I called a dealer and later called Honda Customer Service, they both told me that I would need to pay a $170 fee to run a diagnostic check. Then, if the diagnostic check showed that my car was experiencing an issue related to the recall, I would be reimbursed the $170 fee. However, if the diagnostic check did not show that my car was experiencing the issue, I would not be reimbursed. Requiring me to risk $170 to run the diagnostic check is not repairing my vehicle for free - especially when I am experiencing symptoms described in the recall notice. I believe Honda and the dealer should be required to honor what they wrote in their letter and both run the diagnostic check and complete the repair at no charge to me.
