While driving on the highway the engine died forcing me to change lanes to cross traffic and coast to a stop on the shoulder. It was dangerous and unexpected. It would not restart so I had to have it towed. Inspection revealed the bearings had gone bad in the engine and the engine would have to be replaced. I had to wait 2 and half months for an engine.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. There was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. The contact determined that the engine had seized. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the failure was due to the lifters, and there was low compression in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, where an oil consumption test was performed. The contact stated that the oil consumption test was not completed. The contact stated that while driving 55-60 MPH, the contact noticed an abnormal oil odor, and the low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over. The contact then noticed that a significant amount of oil was leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's brother. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact became aware that oil was leaking from the oil pan. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence, where the contact added oil to the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to Beck & Masten GMC Coastal (200 US-77, Robstown, TX 78380), where the rear main seal gasket was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the alternator and the crankshaft hoses had failed due to excessive oil leaks. The dealer charged a fee for the alternator and the crankshaft hoses replacement. The dealer informed the contact that the rear main seal gasket replacement was covered. The dealer related the oil leak to the oil pressure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and cases were filed; however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 44,000.

On [XXX] at around noon I was driving my 2020 GMC Sierra northbound on [XXX] 26 miles north of Moab Utah. My truck died and I attempted to coast to the next passing lane but did not make it. The shoulder was about 3 feet wide and then had a steep drop off. I pulled over as far as I could but the majority of my truck and trailer was still in the only northbound lane. The northbound traffic was forced to cross over the double yellow into the oncoming southbound traffic. The concern was getting rear-ended by northbound traffic behind me or a head-on collision with the northbound traffic veering into southbound traffic. I made several attempts to restart the truck and the dash just goes blank with no attempt from the starter. We waited for a tow-truck and about an hour into this wait Utah Highway Patrol arrived and parked behind us with his lights on warning traffic from both directions. There were no precursors to this failure or notifications. I didn’t even hear any noises. There was no physical damage or any leaking fluids. It just quietly stopped. John Elway Chevrolet informed me the bearings failed and the engine seized. I wanted to keep the core for evidence due to learning about the numerous catastrophic failures of the L87 engine I had. Keeping the seized core was going to cost me double the cost of a rebuilt one ($7000). When I asked the service Manager, Ben why its twice the cost? He said, “GM doesn't want you keeping the core and they can set whatever price they want .” I have had this truck since it was new (6 miles) and noticed unusual oil consumption early on. I would never make it to the next oil change without having to add oil, even with the very first oil change. I inquired about this with the dealer and told this extreme oil consumption was normal and given Bulletin 01-06-01-011M. I did not involve my insurance because they do not cover engine failure. I paid $12,653.97 for a remanufactured long block. Of that was $2469.93 was for parts not need INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INF

Our middle seat belt has stopped working in the back seat- we have not had it replaced yet. No damage was done on it by us, but will not click into the buckle. Driving on the hi-way engine started making awful noises. We pulled over and had the truck towed to Royal Moore GMC in Hillsboro Oregon as we didn't want to cause any more harm to the engine. Royal Moore GMC informed us the engine rod bearing failed on [XXX], leading to breaching of the engine block by the rod. This caused us to replace the entire engine at the cost of over 13,000$ and no vehicle for over 3 months. (Along with engine replaced they told us we had to replace the O2 sensor as the light came on after the engine was replaced). We had to take a hardship loan to get the engine replaced, and had the truck back for 1 day before we had a o2 error l light came back on. At this time (May 5th) we are still waiting for our truck back. Royal Moore doesn't know why the engine light is on- and contacted TAC for GMC. We also contacted GMC multiple times when we were waiting for the engine. They have offered no help to us besides empty promises to call us back later. In February of 2025 my check engine light came on while i was at work. Went to the local auto zone to have the code read and it. Right after that i drove straight to Gay Family Auto. along the way there was a jolt followed by a stall The car behind me nearly re ended me. i made it to the dealership after inspection i was told i blew a rod and had metal shavings due to an engine failure. Up to this point i had no indication of any issues or dash board warnings. i was told i needed to provide all prof of oil changes which i did. after two months i get my truck back from GMC with a new motor. The new motor is now under recall for doing the exact same thing as my old motor. GM basically took out a faulty motor replaced it with a new one in hopes nothing happens. I reached out to GM and they told me to take it to a dealership for inspection. The dealership told me they wont touch it til GMC sends a solution. im currently driving a truck that could possiably fail again

I just left the gas station from getting a beverage, I got onto the interstate and had gone roughly about 3 miles before setting super cruise a few minutes after that the interstate takes a turn to the left with an exit on the right. Slightly right as I was just getting into the turn my engine shutoff and or died making my truck uncontrollable causing me to drive off the interstate into some small trees between the exit and the interstate. I was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. My truck is currently at the insurances storage yard and they care claiming it to be totaled. I have contacted GM and filled a claim however they are saying they aren’t responsible because the insurance company has my truck. I feel like regardless of who has my vehicle the manufacturer should be responsible if the issue pertains to a specific recall that has already been issued 2 weeks after my accident. I have contacted several lawyers but since I wasn’t injured they aren’t interested in taking my case. My concern is I’m getting screwed over financially because my truck was only a year old and now my insurance is going to be crazy expensive when the manufacturer should be the one taking responsibility for this and not myself.

- #11658856May 5, 2025EXTERIOR LIGHTING
When in a dark area with little to no lights the backup camera is unusable. The taillights/reverse lights do not put off enough light to provide the camera with the lighting it needs to see behind the vehicle in dark situations. If I am in an urban area with a lot of light pollution the camera works fine, but not when I am in a rural are with no lights.

- #11658780May 4, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Apparently, GMC began using soy-based wire coatings approximately 10 years ago. The wiring harness on my vehicle has literally been eaten and destroyed by squirrels causing the entire electrical system to be compromised. Safety features have been especially affected including but not limited to air bags, windows being inoperable, door locks being stuck open or closed without a physical key, stabilitrak system arbitrarily shutting off, and windshield wipers working intermittently. Obviously, these are critical systems for the safe operation of this vehicle for the driver, passenger, and members of the public that share the roads. I have had the main harness repaired at a dealership (paid by insurance) but it remains an ongoing safety and financial issue. The dealership identified other portions of the electrical system still need repair and may further compromise safety. Not only were warning lights activated, approximately 10 in-dash messages were displayed warning of malfunction prior to dealership inspection and partial remediation.

Warning chimes and tones go silent intermittently, thus not providing audible alerts to the driver of vehicle problems and/or warnings. The problem has been reported and confirmed by a GM dealership. The dealership confirmed that there is a bulletin within the GM system that there is a problem however there is no current fix. This problem has existed for over 10 months of ownership. There is no warning that this has occurred other than there is no warning chimes/tones, only visual indicators.

I was driving approximately 25-30 mph coming over an overpass moving into the right hand lane when my truck right front end failed. The steering and brakes locked up for approximately 50’ until I hit the curb for the sidewalk and stopped. I safely exited the vehicle checked the left side of my truck for damage and didn’t find anything. I walked around the back of my truck and came to the passenger side where I found my right front wheel and tire completely broken away from both upper and lower control arms, the ball joint broke and failed as well as the brake line. If I was driving on the highway at 65-75 this catastrophic failure could have resulted in a fatal collision. The night before my [XXX] daughter and I returned from her outdoor Ed trip in Sausalito and we drove an hour home to Napa on [XXX] and [XXX] . I thank god this didn’t happen with her in the car on the highway. I had my truck towed to Jimmy Vasser Chevy in Napa so I can see if the extended warranty will cover the repairs since it was an obvious catastrophic failure of the whole right front end. It’s still sitting there. The extended warranty inspector came Friday to take pictures of the damage INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving on the frontage road that enters the freeway when then engine suddenly failed and stalled. It lost power and seemed like it was misfiring. All the warning lights on the dashboard came on as this happened but there were no warnings lights, messages, or symptoms before this happened. The sudden loss of power posed a risk to my safety because it could have caused a crash or left me stranded. I had my vehicle towed to the Freeway Chevrolet dealer in Chandler, AZ where they inspected the vehicle and confirmed the engine had a camshaft and lifter failure.

Motor stopped dead while driving on a local Interstate Hwy. Was able to negotiate the truck out of traffic without crashing. Not an easy thing to do in speeding rush hour traffic. Had the truck towed to a reputable repair shop and discovered the CP4 fuel pump had failed and shattered throughout the fuel system. Repairs in the amount of $13,520.30 incurred to get the truck back in service. The attached invoice includes $167.87 for other maintenance not related to the CP4 fuel pump repair. This is a known problem and safely hazard. A class action suit settlement is related to the CP4 fuel pump against multiple truck manufacturers. # [XXX] and can be found at [XXX] . Minnesota is not included in the class action and GM will not address my complaint. Why has this KNOWN safety issue not resulted in a recall?
