  This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicle starts and stalls on the first initial start after the replacement of the Theft Deterrent Module. Technician will need to use the scan tool to check Manufactures Enable Counter. If the number is anything other than zero the Manufactures Enable Counter will need to be reset. To reset the Manufactures Enable Counter counter, the ignition key can be cycled the number equal to the Manufactures Enable Counter counter.

VEHICLES WITH THIS CONDITION MAY HAVE INOPERATIVE ANALOG GAUGES OR INDICATOR TELLTALES WHEN THE IGNITION IS IN THE “ON/RUN” POWER MODE. CYCLING THE IPC FROM A SLEEP STATE TO A WAKE-UP POWER STATE WILL AUTOMATICALLY CORRECT THE CONDITION; CUSTOMERS OR SERVICE TECHNICIANS, HOWEVER, MAY NOT BE ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS CONDITION.

  This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician about the calculation and operation of the engine oil life monitor. The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down.
