Toyota Recalls Tundra, Tacoma for Faulty Curtain Airbag Parts

Toyota has announced a safety recall for approximately 4,100 replacement curtain shield airbag service parts, impacting certain Tundra and Tacoma models in the U.S. This Toyota airbag recall addresses parts that may not deploy correctly, increasing the risk of injury during a collision. Details of the Recall

The Toyota airbag recall specifically targets curtain shield airbag (CSA) service parts manufactured between December 2021 and December 2025. These parts were sold as replacements for vehicles that may have undergone repairs after collisions or other incidents. Approximately 4,100 of these service parts are involved in the U.S. market.

The affected vehicles where these replacement parts might have been installed include 2014 to 2021 model year Toyota Tundra CrewMax and Double Cab trucks, and 2016 to 2023 model year Toyota Tacoma trucks.

The Safety Risk and Remedy

The concern stems from the possibility that some of these replacement curtain shield airbag parts may not have been manufactured to proper specifications. If a faulty part is present, it might not deploy as intended during certain types of collisions.

An improperly deploying airbag could reduce occupant protection, thereby increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants in the event of an accident. To address this, Toyota dealers will inspect potentially affected vehicles. If an affected replacement curtain shield airbag assembly is identified, it will be replaced free of charge to the owner.

Owner Actions and Notifications

Toyota will notify owners of 2014-2021 Tundra CrewMax and Double Cab vehicles who are known to have had a replacement curtain shield airbag installed after November 2021. Similarly, owners of 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma vehicles who received a replacement curtain shield airbag after May 2024 will also be notified.

Initial notifications are expected to be sent by the end of September 2026. Other owners will receive notifications as their contact information becomes available. Owners of Tundra CrewMax, Double Cab, and Tacoma models from the specified model years who suspect their curtain shield airbags were replaced after the indicated dates should take their vehicle to a Toyota dealer for inspection, even if they do not receive a direct notification for this Toyota airbag recall.

Dealers will also be informed to identify any such parts sold to body shops or collision repair facilities, as well as vehicles where these replacement parts may have been installed.
