Nissan has launched a new initiative at Nashville International Airport (BNA) to highlight its long-standing manufacturing operations and workforce in Tennessee. The program includes large-scale visual installations featuring Nissan vehicles, designed to engage travelers and celebrate the company's local economic impact. These Nissan Nashville Airport displays are visible to millions of passengers passing through the airport.
Showcasing Tennessee Operations
Nissan's presence in Tennessee dates back decades, with its Americas headquarters located in the Nashville area. The Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant, operational since 1983, has been a key component of Nissan's U.S. manufacturing footprint, including nearly 15 years of INFINITI vehicle assembly. This facility, along with the Decherd Powertrain Assembly Plant, employs over 8,000 full-time individuals in the state.
The Decherd plant, which opened in 1977, recently reached a milestone of assembling 20 million engines. These facilities underscore Nissan's strategy of building vehicles and components in the markets where they are sold, contributing significantly to the local economy and employment.
Airport Installations
Travelers arriving at Nashville International Airport will encounter several prominent Nissan installations. One notable display is a rooftop "Welcome to Nashville" sign featuring a real Nissan Z sports car. This Z vehicle has been modified, reinforced, and custom-mounted, with its headlights and taillights illuminated to be visible day and night to arriving and departing flights, particularly those approaching runway 20R.
Inside the terminal, a 14-foot-tall replica of a vintage toy car package showcases a Tennessee-assembled Pathfinder Rock Creek. Positioned in a high-traffic area post-security, this display includes a QR code that directs visitors to NissanUSA.com for more information about the SUV. Additionally, a series of videos featuring employees from the Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant are shown throughout the airport, highlighting the individuals behind Nissan's manufacturing efforts in Tennessee.
Community Engagement and Visibility
This initiative represents a partnership between Nissan and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. The collaboration aims to strengthen Nissan's connection with the Middle Tennessee community and engage with the millions of travelers, residents, and visitors who use BNA annually. The airport serves as a significant transportation hub, providing Nissan with a platform to reach a broad audience.
The rooftop Z display, the Pathfinder Rock Creek exhibit, and the employee videos will remain in place through the end of October. This period is expected to welcome over 2 million passengers per month through BNA, offering substantial visibility for Nissan's Tennessee operations and its vehicles. The campaign demonstrates Nissan's role as a major employer and economic contributor in the region.
For Nissan owners and prospective buyers, these airport installations serve as a public acknowledgment of the company's substantial manufacturing base in the United States. The Nissan Nashville Airport displays highlight the Tennessee-built vehicles and the local workforce responsible for their production, reinforcing Nissan's operational presence in the region.
