Nissan to Supply GEN4 Powertrains to Andretti Formula E
Nissan has announced a multi-year agreement to supply its GEN4 Formula E powertrains to Andretti Formula E, beginning with Season 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This collaboration aims to enhance technical development and performance for both teams.

Nissan has finalized a multi-year agreement to provide its GEN4 Formula E powertrains to Andretti Formula E, beginning with Season 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This partnership unites two prominent organizations within the electric racing series, establishing a foundation for technical collaboration during the next generation of competition. The agreement was announced in Tokyo, coinciding with the city's inaugural night E-Prix.
Nissan's Expanded Role in Formula E
The new agreement will see Nissan supply its advanced GEN4 powertrains to Andretti Formula E for multiple seasons, starting from the 2026-2027 season (Season 13). This expansion means four Nissan-powered cars will compete in the series, strengthening Nissan's presence and technical development opportunities. Andretti Formula E has a history of strong performance, including securing the 2023 FIA Formula E Drivers' World Championship with Jake Dennis.
Nissan itself has been a long-standing competitor in Formula E, making its debut in Season 5 (2018/19) as the first and only Japanese manufacturer to enter the championship. The company acquired the e.dams race team in April 2022, taking full ownership of its Formula E involvement. Nissan also secured the Drivers’ World Championship in Season 11 (2024/25) with Oliver Rowland.
Strategic Collaboration and Technical Development
Beyond the powertrain supply, Nissan and Andretti Formula E plan to engage in close technical collaboration throughout the GEN4 era, which is set to run until 2030. This partnership aims to combine the technical expertise, engineering knowledge, and sporting experience of both teams. The goal is to maximize performance in the highly competitive championship through continuous development and technical exchange.
The collaboration will also leverage the experience of two FIA Formula E Drivers' World Champions: Oliver Rowland, the reigning title holder for Nissan, and Andretti Formula E's Jake Dennis. Both drivers are expected to contribute their technical feedback as the partnership evolves. This strategic alliance is designed to foster shared learning and innovation on the racetrack.
Electrification Goals and Motorsport Heritage
Formula E is a key component of Nissan’s global electrification strategy, linking its motorsport activities directly to its long-term corporate ambitions. The company has committed to electrifying every new vehicle offering by the early 2030s in key markets and aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and products by 2050. Nissan views Formula E as a platform to transfer knowledge and technology between the racetrack and its road-going electric vehicles.
The announcement was made during a significant week for the Nissan Formula E Team, as it competed in a special NISMO-inspired livery for its final home race weekend of the GEN3 era. This special livery celebrated Nissan's extensive motorsport heritage, underscoring the brand's connection between its racing endeavors and its production vehicle development.
For Nissan owners and prospective buyers, this expanded involvement in Formula E signals the company's continued investment in electric vehicle technology and performance. The technical advancements and competitive insights gained from this high-stakes racing environment are intended to inform and improve future Nissan electric road cars.
