2027 Lexus NX Electrified: More Power, Range, and Tech

Lexus has unveiled the 2027 NX compact crossover, which will transition to an entirely electrified powertrain lineup. This update means the 2027 Lexus NX hybrid will be available exclusively as either a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), alongside significant enhancements to its design, technology, and driving dynamics.

The 2027 Lexus NX hybrid range simplifies to four core grades: Premium, Premium+, F SPORT, and Luxury. Each grade will be offered with either the NX 350h HEV or NX 450h+ PHEV powertrain, ensuring a fully electrified option across the board.

Electrified Powertrains and Performance

The 2027 Lexus NX lineup features advanced hybrid technology designed for both efficiency and performance. The NX 350h HEV now delivers a total net combined hybrid system output of 244 horsepower, an increase of 4 horsepower over the previous model. This system utilizes a 160 hp front motor generator and, for all-wheel-drive models, a 54 hp rear axle motor.

Fuel economy estimates for the NX 350h HEV are 44 MPG city, 35 MPG highway, and 40 MPG combined for FWD models. AWD models are rated at 42 MPG city, 34 MPG highway, and 38 MPG combined, with the F SPORT AWD achieving 41 MPG city, 34 MPG highway, and 38 MPG combined.

The NX 450h+ PHEV sees its total net combined plug-in hybrid system output increase to 324 horsepower, up from 304 horsepower. This is supported by a more powerful 203 hp front motor generator and a 54 hp rear axle motor. The PHEV's newly developed lithium-ion battery contributes to a manufacturer-estimated all-electric range rating of 45 miles across all grades. Charging capabilities are also enhanced, with standard DC fast charging via a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 35 minutes using a 50-kW DC charger. AC charging from 10% to 100% takes about 2.5 hours with a 240V AC charger.

Refined Design and Advanced Technology

The exterior design of the 2027 Lexus NX evolves with a more dynamic character, featuring seamless integration of headlamps and cornering lamps into the grille. Black accents now replace chrome on outer mirrors and moldings, contributing to a cohesive, sporty appearance. The rear combination lamps introduce Lexus’ first Double L Signature, alongside an illuminated Lexus logo.

Inside, the cabin offers a more open and refined atmosphere. A 14-inch touchscreen display for the Lexus Interface and a 12.3-inch Multi-Information Display are now standard across all grades, serving as the central hub for navigation and entertainment. Luxury and F SPORT grades introduce Sensory Concierge, which personalizes the cabin experience through lighting, sound, and fragrance. The 2027 Lexus NX hybrid also incorporates Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, offering enhanced detection capabilities and expanded driver assistance technologies for greater peace of mind.

Driving Dynamics and Grade Structure

Lexus engineers have refined the NX’s driving dynamics through updates to the suspension, steering system, accelerator, and braking system, alongside increased chassis rigidity. Testing and tuning were conducted at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama and Germany’s Nürburgring to ensure a responsive and comfortable driving experience. The E-Four electronic all-wheel-drive system is standard on NX 350h F SPORT and Luxury grades, as well as all NX 450h+ grades, and is available on NX 350h Premium and Premium+ grades, providing continuous AWD operation for improved stability.
