Lexus has announced the 2027 Lexus TZ, introducing its first all-electric, three-row SUV. This new model aims to expand the brand's electrified lineup, offering increased space and comfort for passengers. The 2027 Lexus TZ will be available with two lithium-ion battery options, providing capacities of 76.96 kWh and 95.82 kWh.

Interior Comfort and Design

The 2027 Lexus TZ prioritizes passenger comfort across all three rows. Front and second-row seats feature power ottomans, a first for a Lexus SUV, while the third-row seats are designed with sofa-like cushions. The cabin aims to provide a refined experience, blending high-end sophistication with everyday practicality.

An aerodynamic exterior design contributes to maximizing driving range. The vehicle also incorporates eco-sensitive elements, such as hand-crafted Shikoku Island Forged Bamboo accents within the interior. This combination of design and material selection reflects a focus on both efficiency and luxury.

The cabin environment is further enhanced by a standard panoramic roof, which includes an innovative wire-driven sunshade to preserve headroom and offer expansive views for third-row passengers. Standard ambient LED illumination cycles through six Japanese-inspired themes, creating a distinctive atmosphere.

Advanced Performance and Handling

The 2027 Lexus TZ features an evolved DIRECT4 AWD system and advanced chassis dynamics, designed to balance performance with passenger comfort. The DIRECT4 AWD system is standard on all grades and continuously optimizes power delivery by distributing torque between the front and rear motors based on driving conditions. This system allows for torque ratios to adjust from 60:40 to 0:100 (front:rear) during acceleration and from 80:20 to 0:100 (front:rear) during cornering phases, aiming for precise handling and linear acceleration.

Drivers can select from multiple tailored drive modes, including NORMAL, SPORT, ECO, RANGE, and REAR COMFORT. The REAR COMFORT setting specifically synchronizes Dynamic Rear Steering, optimized brake force, and drive force distribution to minimize cabin pitching and lateral motion, enhancing passenger serenity.

The vehicle also offers five levels of regenerative braking, adjustable via paddle shifters, allowing drivers to customize deceleration preferences. This system provides up to 0.2 G of natural speed control using only accelerator pedal modulation for coasting.

Chassis Engineering and Maneuverability

Built on the TNGA platform, the 2027 Lexus TZ delivers a refined iteration of the "Lexus Driving Signature," incorporating over 40 performance themes. Its reinforced body structure utilizes high-rigidity adhesives, laser screw welding, and lightweight aluminum components. This construction aims to achieve exceptional torsional stiffness, agile handling stability, and reduced overall weight.

Further enhancing maneuverability and stability is the Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) system. This technology helps at low speeds by steering the rear wheels up to 4 degrees in coordination with the front wheels, improving agility. At higher speeds, DRS contributes to enhanced stability.

The introduction of the 2027 Lexus TZ electric SUV represents a significant step for Lexus into the growing three-row electric vehicle market. With its focus on advanced battery options, sophisticated interior comfort, and dynamic handling technologies, the 2027 Lexus TZ aims to offer a compelling option for consumers seeking a spacious and luxurious electric SUV.
