Kia Reports Record May 2026 Sales Driven by SUV and Hybrid Demand

Kia America reported record sales figures for May 2026, with 80,502 units sold nationwide. This performance marks a new best for retail sales in any single month, surpassing the previous record from August 2025. The company also achieved its highest year-to-date overall sales through May, reaching 360,220 units.

Strong Sales Performance Continues

In May 2026, Kia's retail sales saw an 11 percent increase compared to May 2025. This growth contributed to the overall monthly total of 80,502 vehicles. The year-to-date sales, covering the first five months of 2026, climbed to 360,220 units, representing a 2 percent rise over the same period in 2025.

Several key models contributed to these record-breaking results. The Kia Telluride recorded an 18 percent increase in May sales, setting a new best for the month and achieving its highest sales for any single month. The second-generation Telluride has now posted five consecutive months of record sales.

The Kia Carnival also saw a significant boost, with sales up 16 percent in May, establishing a new May sales record for the model. Similarly, the Kia Sportage experienced a 6 percent increase, marking its best May sales performance to date.

Hybrid and Electrified Models Drive Growth

Hybrid and electrified vehicles played a substantial role in Kia's May 2026 sales success. Overall hybrid model sales surged by 179 percent compared to May 2025, achieving the highest monthly and best-ever May year-to-date sales totals in the company's history. Electrified models collectively saw a 133 percent increase in May sales.

Specific hybrid variants demonstrated significant individual growth. The Sportage Hybrid's sales rose by 171 percent, while the Sorento Hybrid experienced a 101 percent increase, with both models setting new May sales records. The Carnival Hybrid also saw a 32 percent increase, achieving its best-ever May sales and its highest sales for any single month.

Broader Brand Initiatives and Recognition

Beyond sales performance, Kia America announced several other initiatives and accolades. The company served as the Official Mobility Partner for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing 660 vehicles, including the Telluride, Sportage, Carnival, Sorento, K4, K4 Hatchback, and Niro, to support operations across host nations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Kia Corporation also expanded its partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, focusing on intercepting plastic waste in Greater Los Angeles rivers before it reaches the Pacific Ocean. This project is scheduled for completion before the LA28 Olympic Games and has secured support from local authorities.

Furthermore, the 2027 Kia Telluride X-Pro was recognized by the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) as the best three-row family SUV. This award followed evaluations during NWAPA's annual Mudfest event, which assesses SUVs in various driving conditions.
