Honda Racing Corporation USA has secured the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES manufacturers' championship on August 30, 2026, with two races remaining in the season. This achievement marks Honda's 12th manufacturers' title in American Open Wheel racing, arriving 30 years after its initial championship wins in the series. The early clinch underscores Honda's consistent performance throughout the 2026 season.

Season Performance Highlights

The 2026 season saw Honda-powered teams achieve 10 victories, five podium sweeps, and 13 pole positions. A total of 13 out of 15 Honda-powered cars contributed points towards the manufacturers' championship, demonstrating broad participation in the team's success. This collective effort was a key factor in Honda securing the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES manufacturers' title.

A significant victory for Honda came at the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, where Felix Rosenqvist took the win. This marked Honda's 17th victory at the iconic race, with Rosenqvist's triumph being the closest finish in the event's history. The season's wins were distributed among four different Honda-powered drivers across various circuit types.

Dominance on Street Circuits

Honda demonstrated particular strength on street circuits during the 2026 season, sweeping all six races held on these urban tracks. Honda-powered cars claimed 15 of the 18 possible podium positions and led over 90% of the laps contested on street circuits. All five Honda-powered teams recorded both lap leads and podium finishes in these events.

Individual drivers contributed to this street circuit success. Alex Palou secured wins at St. Pete, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, and Detroit. Kyle Kirkwood added victories at Arlington and the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington D.C. Marcus Ericsson also contributed with a win at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham. This strong showing on street circuits was a major component of the overall Honda IndyCar championship 2026 effort.

Historical Context and Remaining Titles

This 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES manufacturers' title is Honda's eighth in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES specifically, and its 12th overall in American Open Wheel competition. Previous titles include wins in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, a four-year consecutive run from 2018 to 2021, and 2025. The manufacturer has shown success across all four IndyCar circuit types: road courses, short ovals, superspeedways, and street circuits.

Despite securing the manufacturers' championship, Honda is still pursuing the drivers' and rookie of the year titles for 2026. Alex Palou currently holds a 97-point lead over fellow Honda-powered driver Kyle Kirkwood in the drivers' standings. Dennis Hauger is leading the rookie of the year standings for Honda with two races remaining in the season.

The early clinch of the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES manufacturers' championship highlights Honda's sustained competitiveness in American Open Wheel racing. This performance reflects a season of consistent results and strategic victories across diverse racing environments.
