Honda HRC Progressive delivered a commanding performance at the penultimate round of the AMA Pro Motocross season at Budds Creek MX Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland. The team secured overall victories in both the 450 and 250 classes, while also clinching the Manufacturers and 450 Riders Championships one round early. This strong showing sets the stage for a dramatic conclusion to the 450 title race, highlighting Honda motocross championships.
Championship Titles Secured
Despite challenging muddy conditions, Honda HRC Progressive swept the overall wins in both premier classes. This achievement marks Honda's fourth AMA Pro Motocross Manufacturers Championship in the last five seasons. Additionally, the team secured the 450 Riders Championship, guaranteeing a Honda rider will claim the title. Hunter Lawrence earned his sixth overall 450 victory of the season, and seventh of his career, aboard his CRF450RWE.
In the 250 class, Chance Hymas achieved his first overall win of the season and second of his career on his CRF250RWE. This significant victory propelled Hymas from fifth to fourth in the championship standings, placing him just five points behind third place with one round remaining. The team's consistent performance throughout the season has been a key factor in these early championship clinches.
450 Class Title Battle Heats Up
The 450 class saw intense racing, particularly between Honda teammates Hunter and Jett Lawrence. In the first moto, Hunter Lawrence took an early lead and maintained it to secure the win by a five-second margin. Jett Lawrence, after an early off-track excursion and a fall, battled from the back of the field to finish fifth, salvaging crucial points.
The second moto saw Hunter Lawrence grab the holeshot and lead wire-to-wire, completing a moto sweep with another five-second victory. Jett Lawrence, starting 11th, steadily advanced through the pack, ultimately passing Jorge Prado on the final lap to secure second place. As a result, Hunter Lawrence now holds a narrow one-point lead over Jett Lawrence heading into the final round at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The 2026 AMA Pro Motocross 450 title will be decided between these two Honda riders.
250 Class and Women's Motocross Highlights
Chance Hymas showcased strong form in both 250 motos. He finished second in the opening race after leading early and closing within 2.2 seconds of the winner. In the second moto, with improved track conditions, Hymas secured the holeshot and led from start to finish, fending off late pressure to claim his first overall win. This performance significantly boosted his standing in the 250 championship.
In the Women's Motocross Championship (WMX), Honda-supported riders also delivered notable results. Charli Cannon posted a 2-2 moto tally for second overall, while Mikayla Nielsen secured third overall with a consistent 3-3 score. Cannon currently sits second in the WMX championship standings with one round left.
For Honda owners and motocross enthusiasts, the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross season has been a testament to the brand's competitive strength. With the Manufacturers and 450 Riders Championships already secured, all eyes will be on the final round at Ironman Raceway as Hunter and Jett Lawrence battle for the individual 450 title, capping off a successful year for Honda motocross championships.
