Alex Palou secured his fifth NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory of the 2026 season at the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix in Nashville on July 21, 2026. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver extended his championship lead, contributing to Honda's strong performance in the manufacturer standings despite significant weather delays that pushed the race to Monday. This win further solidifies Palou's pursuit of a fifth series title.

Palou's Dominant Performance

Alex Palou demonstrated strong form at Nashville Superspeedway, leading 97 laps of the event. This victory marks Chip Ganassi Racing's 150th Indy car win, a significant milestone for the team. Palou started from fourth position and navigated the race strategically, benefiting from a well-timed yellow flag to advance from third to first place.

This win adds to Palou's impressive 2026 season, following earlier triumphs at St. Petersburg, Barber, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, and the Detroit Grand Prix. His consistent performance has now given him an 83-point advantage in the championship standings, as the Alex Palou Honda IndyCar driver aims for his fifth series title in just six years.

Honda Drivers Show Strength

Beyond Palou's victory, other Honda-powered drivers delivered notable results at the Music City Grand Prix. Felix Rosenqvist, driving for Meyer Shank Racing, finished fifth, closely followed by Marcus Ericsson of Andretti Global in sixth. Mick Schumacher, representing Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, achieved his career-best NTT INDYCAR SERIES finish by securing eighth place.

Schumacher's eighth-place finish also made him the highest-finishing rookie in the race, helping to close the gap on Rookie of the Year point leader Dennis Hauger. Kyffin Simpson, another Chip Ganassi Racing Honda driver, finished ninth. Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood, who started from pole position and led 24 laps, recovered from an unfortunate yellow flag incident that shuffled him back in the field to finish tenth. These results underscore the collective effort of the Honda teams.

Race Conditions and Manufacturer Standings

The Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix experienced a nearly 24-hour delay from its original scheduled start time due to severe weather, including lightning and rain, in Lebanon, Tennessee. This postponement shifted the race to Monday, impacting the planned television schedule which had intended to feature the World Cup final as a lead-in.

Despite the challenging and changing conditions throughout the weekend, Honda-powered teams maintained strong performance. Kelvin Fu, Vice President of HRC US, acknowledged the speed, composure, and execution shown by Honda teams and HRC staff. These efforts have placed Honda in a leading position in the manufacturer standings, holding a 983-938 advantage over rival Chevrolet. The next event for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES is the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland on August 9th.

The Nashville victory for Alex Palou and Honda marks a significant moment in the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. Palou's extended championship lead positions him strongly for a potential fifth title, while the collective performance of Honda-powered teams reinforces the manufacturer's competitive standing. Fans of Alex Palou Honda IndyCar racing can anticipate continued excitement as the series heads to Portland.
