Jett Lawrence secured his third overall victory of the season at Southwick on July 13, 2026, taking the 450 points lead in the AMA Pro Motocross series. His brother, Hunter Lawrence, finished second, marking another 1-2 finish for Honda HRC Progressive. The event, which celebrated 50 years of racing at Southwick, saw intense competition and significant developments in both the 450 and 250 classes.
The Lawrence brothers continued their dominant performance, trading moto wins and holeshots throughout the day. In the first 450 moto, Jett Lawrence initially led before a fall allowed Hunter to take the win, with Jett recovering to finish second. Hunter then grabbed the holeshot in Moto 2, but a late crash opened the door for Jett to claim the moto victory and the overall win. Hunter remounted to finish fourth in the moto, securing second overall. This consistent performance means that a Honda HRC Progressive rider has won every moto so far this season. Following this Jett Lawrence 450 win, he now holds a narrow one-point lead over Hunter in the 450MX Championship standings, with 271 points to Hunter's 270 after six of eleven rounds. The third-place rider is now 52 points behind.
The Southwick event was not without its challenges, particularly for Honda's 250 class riders. Jo Shimoda, who arrived at Southwick holding the 250 points lead, suffered a fractured left clavicle during qualifying. This injury prematurely ended his championship pursuit for the season. Additionally, Christian Craig of Quad Lock Honda Racing sustained a T3 spinous-process fracture after a crash in the first 450 moto, though he is expected to recover without surgery.
Despite Shimoda's injury, Chance Hymas delivered his best performance of the season in the 250 class, finishing sixth overall with 5-7 moto results. Hymas demonstrated strong starts and maintained a competitive pace throughout the races. The team also implemented a custom extended rear footpeg for Jett Lawrence's CRF450RWE, designed by Fabrication/Engineering Specialist Ezra Ebberts and Honda Auto Division R&D associate Don Pastell, which Jett reported as successful. This Jett Lawrence 450 win further extends Honda's record at Southwick to 18 overall victories, ten more than any other manufacturer.
With the AMA Pro Motocross Championship now past its midway point, the intense rivalry between Jett and Hunter Lawrence is set to define the remainder of the 2026 season. The next race takes place this Saturday in Millville, Minnesota, where Jett will carry the red plate as the 450 points leader. The team will also look to continue its strong performance in the 250 class despite Shimoda's absence.
