Hunter Lawrence Dominates High Point MX, Narrows 450MX Title Gap

Honda HRC Progressive rider Hunter Lawrence delivered a dominant performance at the High Point National in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, securing a 1-1 moto sweep in the premier 450MX class. This victory marks his second overall win of the season and significantly tightens the championship battle with his brother and teammate, Jett Lawrence. The event also saw Jo Shimoda achieve a podium finish in the 250MX class, further closing his own championship points deficit.

450MX Championship Battle Intensifies

Hunter Lawrence's flawless performance at High Point, where he led every lap of both 450MX motos, moved him to within just two points of championship leader Jett Lawrence. Hunter now holds 180 points to Jett's 182 after four rounds of the 11-round series. Jett Lawrence, despite not winning, maintained a strong showing with 2-2 moto finishes, securing second overall for the event.

The Lawrence brothers have demonstrated remarkable consistency this season, collectively winning all eight motos contested so far. They have also claimed six holeshots and led every lap except one across the four rounds. Hunter's win at High Point is his third career premier-class overall victory, extending Honda's premier-class win tally at the venue to 17.

250MX and WMX Highlights

In the 250MX class, Jo Shimoda earned a third-place overall finish, moving him to within a single point of the championship leader, Levi Kitchen. Shimoda's consistent effort, including a decisive late pass in Moto 1, proved crucial for his podium placement. Teammate Chance Hymas also had a notable performance, finishing ninth overall with 13-8 moto results.

The WMX Championship, reaching its halfway point at High Point, saw Quad Lock Honda's Charli Cannon secure the overall victory with 5-1 finishes, placing her within nine points of the series leader. SLR Honda's Mikayla Nielsen finished fourth overall. The event also marked the professional debut of SLR Honda rider Mayla Herrick, who won the first moto but unfortunately suffered a crash in Moto 2, resulting in a concussion. She is expected to recover fully.

Looking Ahead to RedBud

Following the High Point National, the AMA Pro Motocross Championship will enter a short summer break before returning for Round 5 at the RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan, on July 4. Jett Lawrence will carry the red plate into RedBud, signifying his position as the 450MX points leader, though with Hunter Lawrence just two points behind, the championship remains highly competitive.

The strong results across both classes at High Point underscore Honda's competitive presence in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. With the championship battles tightening, the upcoming rounds are anticipated to deliver intense racing as riders vie for critical points.
