American Honda Reports Strong May 2026 Sales, New Hybrid Record

American Honda Motor Co. reported a 9.9% increase in total sales for May 2026, reaching 148,903 units. This growth was significantly boosted by the Honda brand's performance and a new monthly record for hybrid-electric vehicle sales. Year-to-date sales for American Honda stood at 623,139 units.

Honda Brand Achieves Hybrid Sales Milestone

The Honda brand contributed 135,688 units to the total, marking a 10.5% rise compared to May 2025. This performance was supported by both passenger cars and light trucks. Honda's passenger car sales reached 46,001 units, a 15.5% increase for the month and their strongest sales since July 2021.

Specific models showed notable strength, with the Civic recording 26,995 units, its best result since June 2021. The Accord achieved 18,688 sales, its highest since May 2023. The new Prelude specialty model sold 318 units, meeting its sales objectives. A significant highlight was Honda's hybrid-electric vehicles, which set a new monthly sales record of 42,583 units. The CR-V hybrid led this segment with 24,401 units, setting a new May record and accounting for 54% of all CR-V sales. Hybrid versions of the Accord and Civic also performed well, representing 50% and 31% of their respective model sales.

Light Truck and SUV Growth Continues

Honda's light truck division saw an 8.2% increase in May, totaling 89,687 units, which was its best sales month since March 2025. The CR-V was a major driver, with 45,141 units sold, marking a record May and its second-best sales month ever. This was the third consecutive month the CR-V exceeded 40,000 sales.

The Honda Passport also achieved a new May sales record with 5,689 units, its second-best month all-time, showing a nearly 4% increase for the month and 11% year-to-date growth. TrailSport trims constituted over 80% of Passport sales. Other models like the HR-V had their best sales month of the year with 13,350 units, while the Pilot surpassed 11,000 units for the fourth straight month. The Odyssey minivan and Ridgeline pickup truck both recorded their best sales months of 2026, with 8,441 and over 4,000 units sold, respectively.

Acura Division Sees Strong Gateway Model Performance

The Acura brand posted its best sales month of the year, with 13,215 units sold in May, an increase of 4.1%. This growth was primarily fueled by its SUV lineup and gateway models. Acura SUVs collectively sold over 10,000 units.

The MDX SUV recorded 4,504 sales, up 16% for May and its strongest performance since December 2024. Acura's gateway models, the ADX and Integra, also showed significant momentum. The ADX achieved its best month ever, exceeding 3,100 units. The Integra saw a substantial 67% increase in May, topping 2,900 units, and is up 34.6% year-to-date, marking its best sales month since April 2023.

The strong American Honda May 2026 sales figures, particularly the record hybrid performance and robust demand for key car and light truck models, indicate continued market strength for both the Honda and Acura brands as they navigate the evolving automotive landscape.
