The updated BMW 7 Series luxury sedan has made its European public debut at the Cannes Film Festival. This event marks the first time the seventh-generation flagship model has been presented to a European audience. BMW also continued its role as the official mobility partner for the festival, providing an exclusive fleet of electrified vehicles.
This year's festival, the 79th edition, highlights BMW's ongoing engagement with cultural events. The introduction of the updated 7 Series in this setting underscores its position as a key model for the brand's technology and luxury offerings.
European Debut of the BMW 7 Series
The updated BMW 7 Series, serving as the brand's flagship, introduces several advancements in design, digitalization, comfort, and powertrain technology. Its exterior features a monolithic design, a new BMW kidney grille with Iconic Glow, and minimalist BMW Individual crystal headlights. A notable exterior option is the BMW Individual Dual-Finish paintwork, which combines matte and metallic finishes of the same color without a visible transition.
Inside, the 7 Series incorporates the BMW Panoramic iDrive display and operating system, first seen with the Neue Klasse concept. Other interior highlights include the BMW Passenger Screen, an upgraded BMW Theatre Screen, and an immersive lighting system. These elements aim to enhance the in-cabin experience for occupants.
The powertrain lineup for the updated BMW 7 Series includes efficient internal combustion engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid variants, and fully electric models. The fully electric versions offer an estimated range of over 720 kilometers (approximately 447 miles) according to WLTP standards, utilizing sixth-generation BMW eDrive cylindrical cell technology. The vehicle also features advanced assistance systems with BMW Symbiotic Drive and AI integration, providing SAE Level 2 driver assistance capabilities.
The European premiere of the updated BMW 7 Series took place on La Croisette during the festival. The worldwide market launch for the new BMW 7 Series is scheduled to begin in July 2026.
BMW's Role at Cannes
For the fifth time, BMW served as the official mobility partner for the Cannes Film Festival, providing an exclusive shuttle service for filmmakers, guests, and partners. The fleet comprised over 150 electrified vehicles, including the fully electric BMW i7 and BMW iX models, as well as the BMW XM plug-in hybrid. These vehicles aimed to provide premium transport with reduced local emissions.
Beyond the shuttle service, BMW also showcased 7 Series cars that have appeared in films, such as an E38 BMW 7 Series from the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies.” This exhibition highlighted the model's presence in cinematic history.
