The Audi A2 e-tron, a new electric compact model, has been introduced with a strong emphasis on efficiency and a design tailored for European customers. Audi states it achieves an energy consumption of 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers according to WLTP standards, making it the most efficient series-production model from the brand to date. Order books for the A2 e-tron are set to open on September 10, 2026, with initial deliveries expected in December 2026.

Efficiency and Performance

The Audi A2 e-tron is engineered for low energy consumption, featuring a drag coefficient of 0.24, which Audi reports as the best in its compact segment. This aerodynamic design includes a largely enclosed underbody, controllable cooling-air intake, and specialized aero wheels. It is powered by permanently excited synchronous motors with rear-wheel drive.

Customers can choose from four power levels, ranging from 125 kW (350 Nm) to 240 kW (545 Nm). Three battery sizes are available: 52 kWh, 61 kWh, or 84 kWh (gross capacity), contributing to a WLTP-rated range of up to 646 kilometers. Optional bidirectional charging capabilities, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) in select European markets, further enhance the Audi A2 e-tron efficiency in energy management.

Interior Features and Technology

The interior of the A2 e-tron prioritizes space and versatility within its compact footprint. A "Softwrap" fabric-covered surface extends across the dashboard and door panels, creating a cohesive cabin atmosphere, complemented by an optional 1.6-square-meter panoramic glass roof. Infotainment is managed through a standard MMI panoramic display, featuring an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus and a curved 12.8-inch MMI touch display, integrating an Audi assistant with artificial intelligence.

Audi has also introduced the Fidlock fastening system as standard equipment, providing magnetic attachment points for modular storage solutions. The vehicle incorporates over 300 components made from recycled materials, with more than 100 utilizing post-consumer recycled content. Standard safety features include emergency brake assist, evasive assist, attention assist, adaptive cruise control, parking system plus, and a rearview camera.

Production and Market Availability

The A2 e-tron was developed with an accelerated timeline, reaching production 21 months faster than previous comparable models by leveraging streamlined processes. Production takes place at Audi's Ingolstadt plant, utilizing over 1,200 existing production components and approximately 250 robots already in use for other models, aiming to reduce investment and conserve resources.

Audi is implementing a "pearl chain" production principle at Ingolstadt, a factory control method that uses a fixed sequence of customer orders to optimize processes, reduce complexity, and minimize storage and sequencing efforts. Orders for the Audi A2 e-tron will commence on September 10, 2026, with the first vehicles scheduled for delivery to customers in December 2026. The starting price in Germany is set at 38,200 euros, positioning it for the European market.

The introduction of the Audi A2 e-tron signals Audi's strategic direction towards highly efficient, compact electric vehicles, specifically targeting the needs of European drivers. Its combination of advanced aerodynamics, varied power and battery options, and integrated digital features reflects Audi's approach to electric mobility.
