Audi Nuvolari Supercar Debuts with 1,001 PS Hybrid Powertrain

Audi has officially unveiled the Nuvolari, marking its entry into the high-performance hybrid supercar segment. This new model is set to become the brand's most powerful and fastest production vehicle, featuring a 1,001 PS hybrid powertrain. Production of the Audi Nuvolari will be limited to 499 units, with deliveries anticipated to begin in the first half of 2027. This vehicle integrates several innovations derived from Formula 1 technology.

Performance and Powertrain Details

The Audi Nuvolari delivers a maximum system output of 736 kW (1,001 PS), enabling it to reach a top speed exceeding 350 km/h (approximately 217 mph). The supercar accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and achieves 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Its powertrain combines a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, which produces 588 kW (800 hp) and 730 Nm of torque, with three axial flux electric motors, each contributing 110 kW.

The V8 engine can rev up to 10,000 rpm, a range typically found in motorsports. Two of the electric motors are positioned at the front axle, providing up to 2,150 Nm of torque and supporting variable torque distribution as part of the quattro system. A third electric motor is integrated between the V8 mid-engine and the transmission. The hybrid system is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 7.3 kWh.

Advanced Chassis and Aerodynamics

The Audi Nuvolari incorporates a new generation of all-wheel drive called quattro predictive ride. This system uses precise sensor data to anticipate potential grip loss and proactively adjusts torque distribution, braking, and aerodynamics to maintain stability and control. The vehicle also features an Audi Space Frame (ASF) with a carbon exterior, a first for the brand, combining lightweight construction with high torsional rigidity through extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) components and prepreg autoclave technology.

Active aerodynamics play a crucial role in the Nuvolari's performance and efficiency. The system includes a deployable adaptive rear wing that adjusts downforce and drag across three configurations: Closed, Low Downforce (LD), and High Downforce (HD). A Drag Reduction System (DRS), inspired by Formula 1, can be manually activated to reduce drag and increase top speed. In high-downforce configurations, the system can generate over 400 kg of downforce. The braking system features motorsport-inspired brake-by-wire technology and the new Audi Ceramic Pro braking system, with 10-piston front calipers and 420x40mm discs, and 4-piston rear calipers with 410x32mm discs, designed for extreme thermal loads and consistent performance.

Driver-Focused Interior and Availability

The interior of the Audi Nuvolari is designed with a strong focus on the driver, featuring a reduced architecture that places essential controls and human-machine interface (HMI) elements directly within the driver's view. Digital displays and physical controls are integrated for intuitive interaction, with color accents referencing the historic Auto Union Type C race car. Lightweight carbon fiber seats provide both rigidity and support, enhancing the connection between the driver and the road.

This limited-edition Audi Nuvolari supercar, named after motorsport legend Tazio Nuvolari, represents a significant technological advancement for Audi. With only 499 units planned for production, it will be a rare offering when deliveries commence in the first half of 2027.
