2026 Audi Q4 e-tron Gains Bidirectional Charging, More Range

Audi has introduced a comprehensive update for its Q4 e-tron electric SUV and Sportback models, slated for the 2026 model year. This refresh focuses on enhancing the vehicle's versatility, efficiency, and digital experience. A notable new feature is the introduction of bidirectional charging, allowing the vehicle to not only draw power from the grid but also supply it back for various uses.

The 2026 Audi Q4 e-tron also benefits from increased driving range, faster charging capabilities, and a significantly upgraded interior with advanced infotainment and driver assistance systems. These changes aim to make the electric crossover more practical and appealing for daily use.

Enhanced Performance and Charging

The 2026 Audi Q4 e-tron models feature a new APP350 permanently excited synchronous motor, which contributes to improved efficiency and increased torque. This motor, combined with newly developed power electronics utilizing silicon carbide semiconductors, boosts overall efficiency by approximately ten percent compared to the previous model. Additionally, a new low-viscosity lubricant in the transmission can extend range by up to 12 kilometers in cold conditions.

These efficiency gains translate to noticeably improved range figures. For instance, the Q4 Sportback e-tron performance now offers up to 592 kilometers of range. Rear-wheel-drive Q4 SUV e-tron models with the 63 kWh battery see an increase of around 30 kilometers, while all-wheel-drive variants gain between 16 and 32 kilometers depending on the configuration.

Charging performance has also been upgraded. The DC charging capacity for 82 kWh battery models, such as the Q4 SUV and Sportback e-tron quattro performance, increases from 175 kW to 185 kW. This allows for a 10 to 80 percent charge in approximately 27 minutes at a fast-charging station. The Q4 Sportback e-tron quattro performance can add up to 185 kilometers of range in just ten minutes. Plug & Charge functionality is now standard, enabling automatic authentication and billing at compatible charging stations.

Advanced Technology and Interior

The 2026 Audi Q4 e-tron is the first Audi model to support bidirectional charging. Its high-voltage battery can power external electrical devices through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, offering 2.3 kW via a trunk socket or up to 3.6 kW with an adapter. In specific European markets like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the Q4 e-tron can also act as a home energy storage solution via Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) with a compatible DC wallbox, supporting energy transfer when the battery's state of charge is between 20 and 80 percent.

Inside, the cabin features a redesigned digital stage, centered around an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch MMI touch display. An optional 12-inch passenger display, the largest ever in an Audi, is also available. The intelligent Audi assistant now integrates ChatGPT, allowing for more natural voice commands and information queries. Other interior enhancements include dynamic interaction lighting, a new center console with two cooled 15-watt inductive charging trays, and an optional augmented reality head-up display that projects navigation and assistance information onto the windshield.

Design Refinements and Market Details

The exterior of the 2026 Audi Q4 e-tron receives a sharper design, including a body-colored Singleframe grille and updated S line styling elements. Functional air intakes and a redesigned rear spoiler contribute to improved aerodynamics. New lighting features include digital LED daytime running lights with selectable signatures via the MMI, and second-generation digital OLED rear lights that enhance safety with a proximity detection system. Three new exterior colors and five new wheel designs are available for customization.

For the German market, the Q4 SUV e-tron with the 63 kWh battery starts at 47,500 euros, while quattro SUV models are priced at 55,900 euros and 59,000 euros. Sportback versions carry an additional charge of 1,950 euros. Orders for the updated models are expected to open in Europe during May, with deliveries commencing in the summer.
