Toyota has announced significant updates for the 2027 Crown, introducing new hybrid powertrains across its lineup and refining both its exterior and interior design. The XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades now feature the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), while the top-tier Platinum grade receives the more potent Hybrid MAX powertrain. These changes aim to enhance both performance and efficiency for the 2027 Toyota Crown.

Enhanced Performance and Efficiency

The 2027 Toyota Crown offers two distinct hybrid powertrains, both paired with standard All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades are now equipped with THS 5, which combines a 2.5-liter engine with front and rear electric motors. This system delivers an EPA-estimated 40 mpg combined and includes paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience.

For drivers seeking higher performance, the Platinum grade exclusively features the Hybrid MAX powertrain. This system pairs a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with a direct-shift six-speed automatic transmission, producing 340 net combined horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The Platinum grade utilizes a Full-Time Electronic AWD system with an eAxle, while other grades use an Electronic On-Demand AWD system.

All 2027 Toyota Crown models include selectable drive modes such as NORMAL, ECO, SPORT, and CUSTOM. The Platinum grade further adds a Rear Comfort mode, which adjusts suspension settings to prioritize passenger comfort.

Design Updates and Interior Features

The exterior of the 2027 Toyota Crown receives several styling enhancements, including a newly sculpted rear bumper across all grades. A new exterior color, Inked, has been added, and the HEV and AWD badging now features a sleek Satin finish. The Platinum grade stands out with standard red brake calipers and a black belt window surround. Its distinctive bi-tone paint scheme has been updated to include a body-colored trunk that complements the black roof, with options like Oxygen White, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red, or Bronze Age paired with black accents. The Nightshade edition gains new black badge overlays.

Inside, the Crown expands its luxurious interior options. The Limited grade now offers full Saddle Tan seats, and Saddle Tan is also available as a new interior choice for the Platinum grade. This rich interior color can be paired with the Bronze Age exterior for a distinctive look. Standard interior features across the lineup include leather-trimmed seating, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen. Comfort amenities such as heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and a wireless Qi charger are also standard. A fixed panoramic moonroof is standard on Platinum, Nightshade, and Limited grades.

Advanced Technology and Safety

All 2027 Toyota Crown models come equipped with a standard 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen, offering Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The XLE grade features a six-speaker audio system, while Limited, Nightshade, and Platinum grades upgrade to an 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio system. Connected Services trials, including Safety Connect, Service Connect, Remote Connect, Drive Connect, and Wi-Fi Connect, are also available. Digital Key functionality is offered on Limited and Platinum grades with an active Remote Connect trial.

Safety is a priority, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 standard across all grades. This suite includes features like Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Additional standard safety features include Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Safe Exit Alert, and a Rear Seat Reminder. The 2027 Toyota Crown is manufactured at the Tsutsumi Plant in Japan.

These updates position the 2027 Toyota Crown hybrid as a more refined and capable option in its segment, offering enhanced powertrains, refreshed aesthetics, and a comprehensive suite of technology and safety features for consumers.
