2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Augmented Reality Camera Retrofit

Why this matters

Mercedes-Benz AG (MBAG) produced certain 2021-2022 vehicles, including the 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, without the augmented reality camera (ARC) as originally disclosed at the time of sale. As a direct consequence, the ARC and "Dash-cam" functions are currently not enabled in these vehicles, limiting their intended functionality.

What's being addressed

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) is launching Service Campaign 2022010001 to address the missing augmented reality camera. This campaign aims to retrofit the necessary hardware and activate the ARC and "Dash-cam" features for affected vehicles, restoring full functionality as intended.

How to check if your vehicle is affected

Owners of a 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT can determine if their vehicle is part of this service campaign by checking the Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI) system. Your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer can perform this check, as affected vehicles will be flagged as "OPEN" in VMI starting February 25, 2022. The total campaign population for this issue is 1,147 vehicles.

Manufacturer's remedy

Authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers will perform the retrofit of the augmented reality camera. The procedure involves several key steps:

1. Retrofit Augmented Reality Camera (AR): The technician will install the parts kit for the augmented reality camera. Basic data for this process is referenced in AR54.30-P-0004*, requiring selection of the appropriate WIS document based on the vehicle model. Commissioning of the camera must be performed via a LAN cable connection between the XENTRY Diagnosis system and the vehicle.
2. Connect XENTRY Diagnosis: The vehicle will be connected to the XENTRY Diagnosis system.
3. Calibrate Augmented Reality Camera (KAR) Control Unit: The KAR control unit will be calibrated using the XENTRY Diagnosis system. This involves selecting the menu item "Quick test view – B84/14 augmented reality camera (KAR) - Adaptations – Teach-in processes - Retrofitting of control unit "augmented reality camera (KAR)" Service measure" and following the on-screen user guidance.
4. Disconnect XENTRY Diagnosis: Once calibration is complete, the diagnosis system will be disconnected.

Before beginning the work, technicians must ensure they are using XENTRY Diagnosis version BD/DVD (06/2021) or higher, have all daily updated add-ons installed, and maintain the vehicle's on-board electrical system battery voltage above 12.5V using a charger.

Required tools or parts

To complete the retrofit, the following part is required:

• Parts kit augmented reality camera: Part Number A 177 900 38 12

Technicians must also use the XENTRY Diagnosis system, ensuring it is updated to version BD/DVD (06/2021) or higher.

Warranty Information

Dealers will use specific damage and operation codes for warranty claims related to this service campaign. The damage code is 06 990 02. Associated operation numbers and their estimated labor times are:

• 02-0714: Retrofit augmented reality camera (includes commissioning) – 0.5 hours
• 02-4762: Connect/disconnect vehicle diagnosis system (with XENTRY Diagnosis) – 0.1 hours
• 02-5058: Connect/disconnect starter battery charger (with XENTRY Diagnosis connected) – 0.1 hours

Operations 02-4762 and 02-5058 may only be invoiced once per workshop order if multiple software updates or SCN codings are performed during the same visit.

Important Warnings

Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that technicians must always check VMI before performing campaigns to verify if the campaign is required for a specific vehicle. Additionally, any other open campaigns must be checked for and performed accordingly. The repair procedure must be followed exactly as described in the campaign bulletin.
