While driving the radio stopped playing then the infotainment center went black (turned off) and the instrument display, including the speedometer and ADAS, turned off. The vehicle kept driving but no speed information was available which is a safety risk to myself and others. After about 30 seconds the infotainment and display cluster restarted and returned to normal operation. If relevant, Android Auto was also being used and lost connection during this time. For my individual vehicle, this problem has not yet been confirmed by a dealer nor has it been inspected. There was no warning message or alert before this issue happened.

Infotainment and dashboard are blanking out while driving. system appears to be rebooting. lose entire display, and radio. Has happened multiple times, twice in one day even. when I reported to the dealership they said it was a reboot, but did not offer a way to fix the issue. concerning because I rely on the system for driving directions at times and this is disabled for a few minutes at least each time it happens, and does not always restart correctly.

My windshield incurred a crack on 8/15/23 that continues to spread. To this day, 10/29/23, I cannot locate a replacement windshield and the dealers can only communicate that there is a nationwide backorder with no timetable as to when the replacement will be available. It is inconceivable that a car manufacturer can sell a model without a stock of basic replacement parts, especially something as simple as a windshield. I am dreading heading into the winter months with a cracks windshield.

When the smart seat function was on we experienced the passenger seat automatically fully reclining up on exiting the car. Our child in the back seat had their legs pressed to the point of pain. The dealer claimed that the passenger must have been holding the button down, but they had fully exited the vehicle and the smart seats were reclining the seats. I have seen other reports of this in online forums as well.

Tires (Bridgestones) on this car prematurely disintegrate. Specifically the outer edge of the front tires are the worse. This defect is found consistently on 2021 and especially of 2022 cars made in Germany. Examples of these complaints are numerous and can be found all over car owner forums. The dealers will not help resolve and in fact usually say the tire is ‘safe’, even though chunks are falling off the tire. VW will say they don’t guarantee tires, even though they are aware the tires on these cars are defective and start falling apart at 5-8K miles. There is no recourse for us the customer than to purchase new tires at our expense. VW and the dealers are not taking the matter seriously, the worse part is misinforming people the tires are okay.

The windshield of the vehicle is heated. The film that is used causes distortion in the primary field of view. This causes headaches and blurry vision during long drives. I have taken it to the dealership and they informed me that all the ID.4 vehicles that have the heated windshield have the same issue.

I have an id.4 (VIN: [XXX] ) which has recall issues. I've been trying to get this rectified but have been told there is no resolution for the past 6+ months. yesterday both my speedometer and main (entertainment) screen went blank. I called the dealer and was told they do not know what the issue is, but the vehicle is safe to drive since it "works". I do not know what the speed is, and I get warnings that none of the sensors work (front, airbag, speed control, etc...). I contacted VW corporate and was told this is a dealer problem. I keep getting put in between the corporate office and dealer with no resolution, yet I paid 50k for car that isn't safe for my family (I have a 5 year old). What am I supposed to do? Also VW dealership said they can take the car in, hold it for months with no resolution, but will not provide a car. I am out of car and hope that you all can help me. This is just not right. Controls for cabin temperature and media volume are not lit at night. Difficult to find and actuate without turning on the cabin lights and reducing the driver's view of the road. The power "button" (capacitive touch area, not a button) for the control/infotainment screen is immediately to the left of the temperature control and it is very common to turn off the screen when attempting to adjust temperature. All of which takes driver's attention from the road.

The car was inoperative because it would not allow the driver to shift from neutral to drive or reverse. There was an error code with the emergency break and the auto hold break.

I was slowly driving down a lane in a parking lot. The parking spaces were perpendicular to a wall. I start to turn the steering wheel and slowly tap my brakes since the car was already going at a slow speed. All of a sudden, the car lunges forward and crashes into the wall beyond the parking slot. The airbags blow up and, after impact, my mom who is in the passenger seat complaints about severe chest pain. Soon the ambulance is there to take my mom to the hospital (she is eventually diagnosed with two broken ribs and a fractured cervical bone). I stay at the scene to talk to the police about what happened (the police gathered information from bystanders and took many pictures). I am in shock about the incident and trying to figure out what happened. I research the topic on the Internet and find out that there are others who have complained about sudden and unexpected acceleration in this car model. In fact, there is a class action lawsuit which explains that the overly sensitive cruise control (haptic, touch sensitive control on the steering wheel) can be accidently triggered and cause the sudden acceleration. Thank you for looking into this safety problem.

Child lock faulting resulting in imprisonment of rear occupants. No vehicle warnings documented from vehicle. This is a sporadic issue where the rear passengers become locked within the vehicle using the interior door release, the exterior door release (handle) remains operable. After multiple attempts unlocking the vehicle, as well as disengaging or cycling the child lock, from the driver controls, the rear passengers remained locked within the vehicle. I'm not sure how often this is occuring as we rarely have rear passengers. But when we do, it's usually a coin flip dealing with this situation. I have video documentation of the most recent evet (10/14/2023) where both rear doors remained locked regardless of my actions with the driver control settings. It was only after multiple cycle attempts between the child lock and door lock before the rear passengers could escape. I have few intentions in using the child lock from the driver position, however, the ID4 touch sensitive buttons are prone to accidental activation, usually by a gentle brushing of the area. Regardless if I intentionally, or accidentally, activated the child locks, they should deactivate when the driver commands it. This assuming the issue is instigated by intentional, or accidental, child lock activation. I haven't noticed a trend yet. No vehicle warnings associated with the doors. Dealer hasn't been notified about this particular issue yet, they are currently working with VW on another issue associated with cellular connectivity. The SOS function, among other voice connectivity functions, are completely inoperative at the moment.

- #11549163October 10, 2023SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The car was stuck in the garage; the electronic parking brake failed to disengage. I couldn't shift to the Drive mode. The vehicle had to be dragged out from the garage and is presently at the dealer. The dealer was able to reproduce and confirm the issue. Many errors popped up on the Dashboard when turning on the start button - Electrical System Not working correctly, Drive System Error, Auto Hold Error, TPMS Error. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure. The vehicle is a risk as it may not brake at high speed or fail to move after coming to a complete stop. The vehicle is at the dealer, and I have opened up a case with Volkswagen today and am awaiting to hear from them. Its UNKNOWN if the manufacturer had inspected the vehicle.

While driving my ID.4 couple of months back, it hit something.on the road. Taken to the body shop, I was given the bill of $27K to replace the battery. Looking at the damage, the battery housing was damaged and it could not be replaced without replacing the entire battery. Battery housing being such an important & sensitive part of the vehicle should be protected better. Currently, the shield underneath does not protected the entire battery housing. My insurance company was on the verge to Total my car which would have been an huge loss for me. I had to escalate it to get it repaired which is in process. Just want to report this as I got lucky not to run into an accident/fire due to battery housing being exposed. Hope, some action is taken to prevent any accident future and also to avoid such expensive repair (which can be avoided easily).

A few minutes after charging at an Electrify America location (JFK cell phone lot) I had to step out of the vehicle. Suddenly all sensors stopped working, I was locked out, key fob doesn't work, manual key didn't work either, truck locked out. Car would not connect to the app. I smell something burning but lightened after a few minutes. After 20 minutes of struggle, miraculously I got one door open and drove home. Speedometer stopped working on the way back and I cannot get the car to stop, ac would not turn off either on its own. I am trying to get a service appointment as soon as I can with my dealership.

There is a warning that repeatedly comes on while driving: " Warnings and information not available. Drive with greater care!" While this warning light is on I am unable to see my speed, the time, and miles driven. The temperature gage turns to Celsius, the touchscreen works sporadically and the rear camera does not work at all. The only information that I have been given is to turn the car off and let it sit for 5 minutes. After doing that the warning will come on for about 15 min, turn off for a few minutes and then turn on again.

The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V040000 (Electrical System) and 23V312000 (Structure) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and determined that the parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

- #11546345September 25, 2023STEERING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
I have had two episodes in which the Lane Keeping Assistance put me at risk of running into a barrier on the freeway. Both happened when traveling in a middle freeway lane that split to an off-ramp (three lanes splitting to two groups of two lanes). In the first, I was taking the left ramp. The car, I think wanting to keep the lane line on my right close, suddenly steered me back to the right and toward the dividing barrier. I was able to overcome it and stay on my planned route but it was close. In the second, there was a car to my right in the right-most lane. I was taking the right exit and used my turn signal to indicate this. As I started to take the exit, turning the wheel to the right, the car forced the wheel back to straight because it thought I was trying to steer into the car to my right (in the next lane, also exiting), and again steered me toward the barrier splitting the ramp from the freeway. I was able to overcome the wheel, but again it was close. In both cases, I think the car is doing what it is designed to do (i.e. nothing is broken) but the design is dangerous. I have talked to the dealer about this problem - they have acknowledged the issue and said a new car would not have this problem. No warning lamps or messages appeared.
