Autobraking works sometimes and it doesn't many a times consistently. Also, there is a bad smell that keeps coming regularly. Not sure where that is coming from.

We have experienced phantom braking at least once almost every time we drive on the interstate or on a two lane highway. For example, wen approaching a underpass with a concrete retaining wall or on a curve with a hill. In other instances, we do not understand why phantom braking occurred.

I was driving along the highway on cruise control - plenty of space between me and the car in front of me, both of us traveling around 70 mph. My car suddenly started decelerating quickly, as if the cruise control had turned off. It slowed down to about 55-60 before I hit the accelerator to get back up to speed. Nothing obvious that would have caused the slowdown, no one was merging, the car in front of me was still travelling 70ish, and I didn't disengage the cruise control or hit the brake.

Tesla advertised that Tesla Vision will replace the ultrasonic sensors (USS) and help with park assist. Before buying the Tesla model y Tesla representative assured me that Tesla vision will function to replace the USS. Currently my model y has no visibility to any objects near the vehicle. The lake of sensors caused me to hit concrete blocks in parking spots. The lack of these sensors may cause serious accidents around the vehicle while moving out of garages.

Jan 13, 2023 at 7:02AM PST. While using adaptive cruise control with lanekeeping, I was driving in second lane from the right at a constant speed. There was plenty of room in front of me- no car nearby. As I was slowly passing the car to my right, another car that was behind the car to my right began a normal lane change to its left into my lane behind me. For no reason, my car began to slow down suddenly. Video footage of cameras on my car show the moment when the front of my car pitched down because it was suddenly slowing down. The rear camera view shows when my car's brake lights illuminated for no good reason. I immediately intervened and accelerated back to my highway speed so as to not contribute to the car behind me running into me or having to suddenly brake itself and leading to a problem for yet more drivers. These video files I am linking to show the incident 14 seconds into each video. https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0kGqkRUiGD9Mw9 I've experienced many examples of this phantom breaking since upgrading to 2022.44.30. I wish my car had a feature to enable simple, old fashioned, cruise control so I could use it on highways.

If you turn the steering wheel in a Tesla Model 3/Y all the way to either direction then apply light force the car will slowly start to push back with a lot of force till the wheel reaches about 45°. At that point if you try to turn the wheel in either direction you will be unable to as it completely locks up for a few seconds. This behavior will happen in any gear including park with the vehicle on. In my case I was backing up onto a busy street and was waiting for a gap in traffic with my wheel turned all the way. At this point it had begun pushing back then when I finally backed out I was unable to turn the wheel the opposite direction and ended up blocking traffic for a few seconds. This was a very terrifying situation and had the potential to go a lot worse. This is a serious safety concern that affects all Teslas and needs to be addressed.

My brand new 2023 Tesla Model Y brakes for no reason at all while driving in a completely open lane on the interstate highway. I took my car to my local dealer to have it fixed, but they refuse to even acknowledge this serious safety issue. I am now forced to manually remember to DISABLE the dangerous Emergency Braking feature with my brand new car. I have owned cars with cruise control for decades - I am 62 tears old. I have never had an accident on the highway. Never. This is because I keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Please understand that I do love this car. it drives beautifully, and I appreciate the other safety features such as the distance feature keeping the car too close to the car ahead of me while cruise control/auto pilot is engage. However, when I am on the highway in heavy traffic and the car brakes for no reason whatsoever, the chance of having a car ram into me from from behind is a serious danger to myself and my family. Please escalate this issue to the highest level possible, or connect me with legal services involved with class action lawsuits to force Tesla to disable this dangerous malfunction in their automobiles. Kindest Regards, James Gaites 4334 7th St N Arlington, VA 22203

I was driving in cruise control on the freeway going 70 mph with no other cars in front of me when suddenly the car slammed on the brakes and slowed to less than 40 mph before I could even react. The car behind me came close to crashing into me. The car continued to slam on the brakes every time I put it in cruise control. I am concerned going forward that if I use cruise control and someone is following close behind me, that they may crash into me if it happens again. I reported the incident to Tesla and they stated that they are aware of the issue and are working on a software fix. However, after researching into the issue, it looks like this issue has been occurring for multiple years with still no resolution.

- #11501660January 13, 2023LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I was using the new version of the full self driving on surface streets. It was my second time using the system (yesterday was the first on the freeway and it seemed odd). Today it sped up and veered towards a car parked in the middle lane. I grabbed the wheel and thought it might have been an innocent error. Then a few minutes later the car took control again and tried to turn (quickly) into the side of a FedEx truck. At that point I knew the first miss wasn’t made up in my mind. I’m so glad I was paying attention, both would have been serious car damage - though not likely to be deadly because they were at low enough speeds.

I was driving on highway 395 in California on Jan 6th in the afternoon. It was a very clear day. I was driving north on the 2 lane portion of the road north of Adelanto and Kramer junction with cruise control on set to about 72. With no cars in sight in front of me the car hard braked with no cars in front of me. I disabled cruise control and later enabled it again. It happened again. I contacted Tesla and they determined there no hardware issue with the car. I am afraid to use cruise control now in the car.

While using “Autopilot” and “Traffic Aware Cruise Control” the vehicle will heavily apply the brakes when there are no forward obstructions or incidents. This causes issues for vehicles behind me and is very unsettling, as there never appears to be a reason for the dramatic reduction in speed.

Wanted to report a problem with Tesla's map navigation and adaptive cruise control (what they refer to as "Autopilot). I haven't seen this reported in the media so wanted to report it here. The map navigation system is problematic, when navigating using the map on the freeway, it will reroute a different path because it somehow thinks I am driving on surface streets. It does this consistently. Because of that, the car when on "Autopilot" will stop in the middle of the freeway, which is incredibly dangerous. This system aims to be safe (by stopping) but also causes greater danger to the following cars by having the car brake. This could be the source behind the "phantom braking problem" that is reported in the media.

2nd row floor is flexing. Same issue found on Model 3 which already has a service bulletin for it. Tried to tell Tesla Service but they won't address it and will not fix it per the service bulletin and every shop that I went will do their own repair that doesn't fix the issue. Here's the service bulletin on the Model 3 which is the same issue. SB-18-45-002 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10143016-9999.pdf

Car sufferers from “phantom braking” and will aggressively brake while adaptive cruise control is engaged for no apparent reason. No “regular” cruise control is available to over ride this.

“Phantom braking” episode: While driving on a two lane freeway using Tesla branded Autopilot (not full self drive) the car automatically and suddenly braked, reducing speed approximately from 70 mph to below 50 mph before manual intervention. This happened with no car in front or behind and while approaching a car in the lane to the right while also approaching an overpass. I also noticed there was a patch of uneven colored pavement beneath the overpass. One passenger in the front seat was thrust into her seatbelt in the event.

On 12/26 evening, I drove Model Y from Asheville NC to NJ. Around midnight time, the car was on I-81 in the middle lane at the speed of 70 miles/hour. And it was on Full Self Drive (FSD). There were virtually no traffic on I-81. On my right, there was a truck were merging to the lane on my right (not merging to the middle lane where Model Y was). Without any warning, Model Y suddenly reduced the speed to 25-30 miles / hour. I had to disengage FSD. If this happened during traffic hour, it could cause severe accident.

When driving with Autopilot enabled, the brakes suddenly and sharply come on when I crest a hill. It's very disorienting and could be dangerous if the road is busy. The Autopilot should not be beta tested on consumers and other drivers like this.

Car applied brakes suddenly multiple times when no vehicles or objects were remotely close (i.e. the car had phantom braking). This occurred while auto-pilot mode was on as well as while cruise control was on and with auto-pilot off. This happened several times on wide open highway lanes including when no other vehicles or other objects were anywhere in sight.
