- #11653906April 10, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
While driving 2023 Honda Accord at normal speed on rural road, the vehicle began to brake on it's own and driver could not over-ride this. Alarms for multiple failures showed on the dashboard. Car was stopped and would not move. Car was turned off then restarted. Dashboard alarms went away, only small information light for brake malfunction remained. Driver began to drive and tested brakes, all acted normally. Car was brought to Honda dealership. Dealership investigated and consulted with Honda engineers. They could not find a cause of the error, so nothing was fixed on the vehicle. Honda charged owner $150 to tell them nothing was wrong, even though car had taken control of brakes and stopped itself.

12/22/23: I was accelerating onto the highway when multiple error messages popped up on the screen related to brakes, emission system, power steering, and others. The car’s accelerator lost power and slowed to a stop on the side of the highway. The interior electronics didn’t lose power, and neither did power steering or power brakes to my knowledge. I restarted the car and the warning lights remained on, however the accelerator appeared to function normally. Honda was unable to diagnose or fix. 3/31/25: I was pulling out of a parking deck when the engine lost power (no throttle) at the same time that multiple error messages came on to the screen. I coasted into a parking spot (brakes appeared to work) and turned the car off. I turned it back on and all of the lights had turned off except a warning about the brakes and TPMS (I think). The engine appeared to work normally, and I immediately drove to the Southpoint Honda service center. 4/8/25: Recap from Honda: Your car had a couple issues, they're all related. The first thing you're complaining about the stalling condition that is a known issue. There's a software update that fixes that. So I got it in here to do the software update, but then I could not communicate to the vehicle. The can Gateway module was unresponsive, which the car will run fine without it. But then, I can't talk to the car. So after testing everything and finding the module to have failed, I replaced the can Gateway this morning. Everything's communicating fine and software is updating right now for the module. Then I'm going to update the pgmfi software for the ICM system to correct the communication loss within the network that causes the stalling issue. So those two issues will be corrected.

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): [XXX] Vehicle Mileage: 29,200 miles Involved Honda Dealership: McGrath Honda, St. Charles, IL Details of Your Inquiry: I am seeking assistance regarding an ongoing issue with my 2023 Honda Accord Sport Hybrid. The first time I noticed this issue was in the summer of 2024, when I experienced a similar set of alerts while driving in a parking lot. At the time, I didn't think much of it, as the vehicle seemed to return to normal shortly afterward. However, on [XXX], the problem occurred again, but this time it was more serious. While driving in a subdivision in Bolingbrook, IL, at approximately 25-30 MPH around 8:10 PM, my vehicle malfunctioned and displayed numerous system alerts, including: Adaptive cruise control system problem, Collision mitigation braking system problem, Road departure mitigation system problem, Electric power steering system problem, Electric parking brake system problem, Tire pressure monitor system problem, Brake system problem, Brake hold system problem. Additionally, my Honda app sent a warning stating, “Brake system problem, drive with caution.” During this time, the vehicle experienced a significant loss of power, with no braking or acceleration available. I was unable to use the brake pedal or accelerate, which caused immediate safety concerns. Luckily, I was in a subdivision and not on a busier road like Weber Rd. or I-55, as this could have resulted in a dangerous accident. I was able to coast the vehicle to a stop at the side of the road, where I waited for a few minutes. I then cycled the vehicle off, waited a few more minutes, and turned it back on. The vehicle started, and I was able to drive back home. A video was recorded showing the alerts on the dashboard. I brought my vehicle to McGrath Honda for diagnostics on March 28, 2025. The dealership found multiple lost communication codes from various subsystems, but they were unable to replicate the issue. I am seeking guid INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (F

The engine completely stopped while driving on two different occasions, once on I10 freeway and on a busy surface street. Hard to pinpoint the failure either mechanical or electrical. Was inspected by two different Honda dealerships and both found no error messages. On the freeway was extremely dangerous we were lucky to safely get to the shoulder and call AAA. On the most occurrence the engine shut off and caused a traffic jam but after a short time was able to restart with no damage only many angry drivers showing their irritation. There was no prior messages or other symptoms that was evident prior to these two occurrences. Had a safety recall performed yesterday, to inspect high pressure fuel pump and no fault was found. This is definitely a safety related defect and if it happens again i don't know if luck will be with me a third time.

The yellow brake System Light illuminates on my dash. . I took my car to the Dealership immediately after the Brake System notification illuminated and the Dealer said they don't know how or why. I have a photo of the illuminated yellow light. My Electronic brake doesn't engage correctly when my car is parked I have video of the Electronic brake operating incorrectly. When i speak to the dealership they state that the Red Brake light did activate incorrectly. My car also slammed the brakes when there was nothing in front of me, causing the seatbelt to pull my neck violently. I was at risk of being rear ended. I've reported this to Honda America multiple times. The last incident caused so much anxiety and panic that I will not drive this car. I do not and will not continue to drive a car with brake issues. Please investigate. My car has been to the dealership nine times in one year and parked since 2/7/25.

While driving at speeds between 3-70 MPH, the vehicle will intermittently display multiple warning lamps along with having an immediate loss of motive power (go into LIMP mode). When this occurs, the car must be coasted over to the side of the road & restarted typically twice to clear all of the dash alerts. Having a car go into LIMP mode while driving on city streets, highways or interstates puts our family in danger as well as the safety of others on the road near us. This issue has reproduced itself over a dozen times for our family & the service department has not been able to reproduce/confirm when brought in for repair. The service team on the 1st service date found multiple codes for loss of communications. They cleared the codes, found no permanent codes, performed a hard reset on the system & sent the car home. The 2nd service call again showed multiple codes for loss of communications. They were not able to reproduce the issue & sent the car home. The 3rd service call displayed the same codes as before. They updated the ICM software & sent the car home. The 4th service call displayed the same codes. The service team attempted to reproduce the issue by driving the vehicle for ~250 miles unsuccessfully & wanted to send the car home. We disagreed & they mentioned we should open a case with Honda which we did. Several days later Honda & the service team replaced the integrated control unit. It will take much time & many miles before we can be certain the ICM replacement did or did not resolve the issue. The issue 1st occurred near 6,200 in mileage and roughly 4 months after purchase. The car now has over 27,000 miles. As far as warning lamps during an event, multiple pop up that are images/icons as well as text of issues you can scroll through. Battery lamp, vehicle stability assist reduced traction and handling, brake system problem brake performance may be reduced, electric power steering system problem steering assist reduced, etc.

I was driving approximately 60 mph on a local highway when my the check engine light came on. The dashboard then started flashing warning messages for multiple error messages stating that many features were failing such as power steering, acceleration, brakes, lane assist, stability assist, and more. My car then lost power and decelerated, coming to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. I was unable accelerate or steer my vehicle to the side of the road. No one hit me but this could have easily caused an accident where either myself or others were hurt. I turned the car off and when I restarted it, my dashboard message stated that I had a brake system problem and that I should see my dealer. I was able to drive to the dealer where they ran a diagnostic and could not replicate the problem. They only stated it was a loss of communication in the computer but that "it would probably not happen again." They did nothing to identify what could have caused the loss in communication and said if it happened again, to bring the car back. I plan to take it to a certified mechanic to inspect the vehicle but I feel very unsafe driving a car that may lose power.

There has been a recall on my vehicle for almost two years. About every two or three months I get another notification that I need to bring it in to be repaired. No matter which dealership I take it to there are no parts available nor have there been for 18 months. I am told that I will need to wait with no timeline of when the vehicle will be repaired. See video here: [XXX] Description: Driving at a slow speed, all of a sudden my car went dead. Brakes went out, gas didn't work, and the car went through a series of errors essentially telling me nothing on the car worked. For around 30 seconds to a minute the car was non-responsive. Then eventually power came back and I got an error message telling me to take the car in because of a brake malfunction. This brake message was on the dash until I parked the car again, then there was no error and the car started up and behaved normally. This has happened twice, once in a parking lot, once in a parking garage. Luckily neither time I was headed towards another car, as I would have crashed. The vehicle unexpectedly stalled - lost power while driving and the brake system warning light came on. There were no warning lights, messages or other issues with the vehicle prior to this failure. Was fortunate that the car coasted to a stop on the side of a busy road with no traffic following behind. The vehicle was then towed to a Honda dealership for inspection. Was advised by the service department that there was a software update - unbeknown to us. The error code was cleared and the service department completed the pcm update per Service Bulletin 25-017.

The car suddenly lost all acceleration, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree (5 or six lights came on. Check engine, brake problem, battery, low tire sensor ect). Once stop i could not accelerate. I had to turn the car on and off twice to go anywhere. Once back on the brake system light stayed on stating there was a problem with the electronic braking system. If I didn't put my flashers on immediately I would have been rear ended by a truck that slammed it's brakes on behind me.

Vehicle has lost power twice: dashboard signals break issue - see dealer. Car totally loses power while driving. Both instances occurred under 40 MPH.Must find a safe place to stop to park and restart car. Cause is unknown. HONDA dealer saw car after 1st incident and could find nothing. Car will again be looked at by HONDA dealer. My safety and others' could easily have been put at risk, especially if this happened at a high speed during heavy traffic.
