Vehicle was last driven on June 23 2024 and parked in my driveway. On the evening of June 29 2024 my horn was blowing in my truck at around 10:30. While I was walking out to the vehicle it was in flames. The fire started from what I understand on the driver’s side behind the dash. Luckily no one was in the vehicle when it happened.

8 speed transmission shudder reported by GMC for my model. My truck has 35,500 miles and has the shudder posted in a technical service bulletin by GM. The supposed fix is x 20 quart fluid flush, new filter, and flash the computer. GM will not cover under any warranty as they say this is a “fluid change” even though the manual says this fluid should not be changed until 72,000 miles. The dealerships act like they are just hearing about this which is a total lie. They were told over a year ago if they had any new on lot to change the transmission fluid to mobile one synthetic before selling them. This should be a recall as GM knew this was an issue during manufacture. This is a $1200 repair that should be covered by GM.

Just got off the highway was at stop sign on exit ramp and it just died. No warnings no lights no indication that something was about to happen. No neutral so couldn’t even push it out of the way of traffic. Had it towed to shop for diagnostic. Possible lifter problem. $600. Dealership towed it to their shop. Engine tear down, lifters replaced. Gmc to pay 30%, dealership paying $1000, me $1300. Dealership started truck and the crank bearing spun. Now needs new engine, which are on back order. Cost ??? How long before engine available??? This is a known problem by the dealerships, GM & repair shops. Had we still been on the highway when this occurred doing 75mph we could have been killed.

The transmission/torque converter is causing (bucking, kicking, jerking, slipping, difficulty when taking off, shuddering during driving, fishbite, and chuggle). Its becoming a safety hazard now because its putting me and others at risk for an accident. The vehicle will hesitate to go in which if traffic may be rear ended by another vehicle. During weather/rain the vehicle will lose traction and the rear wheels will spin causing an accident. Problem has been reported to dealership multiple times and the only solution they can provide is keep driving the vehicle. Vehicle has no warning lights at all or any other symptoms of problems prior to when the components started to fail. The issue first happened around February 2024 and remains to be an issue to this present day. I've been the dealership more than 6 times with no solution/fix. I'm concerned for my safety now and need this issue addressed ASAP.

The frame of the vehicle is rusted through in 2 areas. I recently noticed the rusting frame. Shortly after I purchase the vehicle the rust preventative coating, that was factory applied, was noticed pealing from the frame rails. I sprayed undercoating on the frame at that time to avoid rust after seeing that the factory application had failed. This has not been adequate as the frame has rusted in an area that the inside channel of the frame did not drain effectively and therefore collected water and salt during the winter months. The frame cross members are also rusting badly. The metal is flaking off excessively. In contrast the trailer hitch on the truck is in very good condition because it is the only part of the frame that appears to be properly conditioned to resist corrosion.

The valve body inside the transmission has failed and GM has known it to fail but they have done nothing about it. My vehicle has been in the shop for 2 months because of it and “parts are on back order” it’s terrible i’ve bought this vehicle in august and it’s constantly been inside the shop for various issues. My transmission lost 7th gear and it came to an immediate stop in the road because of it. tires screeching and all. truly embarrassing that you can spend 83,000$ on a truck and it be such a peice of junk.

We purchased our 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 z71 brand new at Fairway Buick GMC in Las Vegas, NV. Pretty much off the lot we noticed some hard shifting, but over the last year/around 60,000 miles it has become progressively worse. Come to find out GM is aware of a known defect in the transmission used in this make/model and several others by GM which causes hard shifting and jerking while upshifting and down shifting primarily between 1st and 2nd gear. This malfunction has caused the vehicle to activate "limp mode" which doesn't allow the vehicle to move out of 1st gear, while driving on the road, putting the safety of the occupants and others on the road at risk. This first happened in January 2024 while we were moving and towing a 6' U-Haul trailer. Luckily we were within a few miles of our destination and made it there safely. Upon taking it to Autonation Buick GMC, we were told they had seen this issue before and the only solution would be to replace the transmission and would cost roughly $6,000-$8,000, and that's with the generous 20% discount they were willing to offer. We opted to have the transmission flushed instead and it seemed to fix the problem temporarily. Then on [XXX] while decelerating and coming to a stop light it hard shifted from 2nd to 1st then the check engine light came on and limp mode was activated. It was 110 degrees on this day in Las Vegas when my husband was driving home from work, and again by the grace of God, he was only 5 minutes from home and made it there safely. However, what if this had occurred with our two young children in the vehicle and we were no where near home? We would have been stranded in dangerous conditions potentially putting our safety as risk. This KNOWN defect in GM transmissions is 100% a safety risk and this needs to be investigated and recalled immediately. There is an ongoing class action lawsuit against GM regarding this issue and I will be looking to get involved as well. The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the transmission started shifting improperly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed transmission fluid control sensor. The contact was informed that due to the transmission fluid sensor failure, the torque converter control module needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to several different independent mechanics and the diagnosis was confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact provided the DTC codes: P0711 and P0700. The contact researched and discovered a previous repair coverage with a similar failure description. The coverage program code was N192291660. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that there were no unrepaired recalls or coverage for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,624.

The transmission went at 67,000 miles and posed a safety issue when my husband was driving & suddenly couldn't drive above 1st gear. Vehicle is at the GM dealer and has been for weeks, but there have been so many issues with the transmissions of this year, make & model, that the transmissions are on back order and we are told it can be MONTHS before they get one in. The dealer already has another one that has been waiting for once since April. We know of others with this same issue on this make/model/yr, as well as engine issues, but yet there are NO recalls for this issue. The only warning that came on was when the issue occurred- no prior warning or indications. GM is involved but make no comment on why there isn't a recall for an obvious known issue.

- #11595266June 19, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
We’ve had issues with the electrical system/brake lights when we hook any trailer (horse/boat/utility) to the truck. One issue is that the system shows unconnected and the trailer lights blink or do not work. We’ve brought this in to the dealer 3 times and they have yet to resolve the issue. The other issue of melted plastic on our rear sliding mirror. It just appeared one day, possible after using the rear defog button. We took it to the dealer and they also do not know what is the issue. We found several other blogs where owners have had the same issue. This is a newer vehicle, and we live in Southern California where the temperature is mild. It just appeared one day. We are concerned This is a safety issue with the electrical system melting the plastic and possibly causing a fire. Here is a link to a blog: [XXX] Lastly, this vehicle was advertised as having adaptive cruise and it does not have the capability (chip) to do so.
