XXX 2021 GMC Seria 108,339 miles driving home from [XXX] in town and out of nowhere the lights on the dash light up I saw it say adaptive steering and something breaking. There was a lot going on as the steering was rapidly shaking limited breaking while trying to avoid a collision. The engine started a loud knocking sound and sudden smoking out tail pipes. I was able to get the truck stopped turned it off and sat there for a while trying to collect myself. Restarted the truck and slowly drove it to my home 2 miles away. It was flatbed to local GM dealer that quickly diagnosed it saying heavy smoke knocking needs New Engine! They won't confirm exactly what the internal engine failure is. Other than its Failed. The engine build date is 2020 day 350 My VIN is not currently in the current GM engine recall However it's certain this failure is totally related to GM's engineering design and Manufacturing issues. Look deeper into the recall date ranges this failure is clearly a victim. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving home with my wife. The engine just cut off. No power to the gas pedal. Luckily we were able to coast long enough to find a shoulder to pull off onto. Truck wouldn’t restart. Had to call a tow truck and have it towed to the Chevy dealership. The engine was already repaired once. Ref number 11696129. I just got the truck back and fixed again. So far I’ve had to pay for 2 tows and 2 repairs costing be about 3000 dollars. Both repairs have been done at a Chevy dealership.

Powertrain issues and a chassis issue that is extremely dangerous.Tailgate on rare occasions falls open by itself. There is a design flaw in the placement of the catalytic converters. The heat is burning up the fluid. I could not believe my eyes when I serviced the transmission. This is another shortcut by GM to save on the extra wiring needed for the oxygen sensors (2)in the converters and the two oxygen sensors downstream of the converters. There is plenty of room for the converters further down by the tail shaft to drive shaft connections. This is GM’s way of being cheap. Here’s the problem. The converters get way too hot. The fill plug for the transmission which is behind a low rent heat shield crumbled into my hands from excessive heat buildup. GM knows there is a problem with the fluid breaking down. Their bandaid answer is to use Mobil 1 fluid instead of the recommended Dexron 6. What needs to happen is a safety recall issued for the unwanted tailgate deploying all by itself. There needs to be a redesign in the exhaust system. The Transmission (8 Speed) has a catalytic converter exactly on both sides and the crossover pipe runs directly under the transmission sump pan. No wonder they are having issues with transmissions burning up. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD !!! With the converters being so close to the exhaust manifolds, a leak from the engine or the transmission would be enough to ignite and possibly kill the occupants. All in the name of saving a few cents in wiring. Myself, I am a retired GM Mechanic. I started working at Sewell Cadillac in [XXX] in 1975. I have held the title of ASE Master Tech. Cadillac Master Tech. I have been a GM Shop Foreman and A GM Service and Parts Director in my Career. I retired from Federal Express as in charge of Fleet Maintenance and GSE(Aircraft Equipment). I have certifications from Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Commander Loaders, Goodyear, and more. Given the right set of circumstances, it could end very badly. Dangerous Truck ! A GM warranty engine replacement was performed at Heyward Allen GMC in [XXX] on XXX at 70,415 miles. We purchase the vehicle on XXX with 73,904 miles and after driving for a month started having multiple malfunction indicator lights displaying, and experienced a no start condition. We took the vehicle to the Don Ledford GMC dealer in [XXX], and they performed a high level inspection. They found missing mounting brackets, loose wiring harness wires, broken and missing bolts. Issues all related to an engine replacement procedure. Deeming the vehicle unsafe to operate. The origin dealer that was paid through GMC to replace the engine is now refusing any responsibility for resolving these issues. Technicians have video evidence of the workmanship issues, documenting the sub- par repair work performed during the engine change. The vehicle now sits at the Don Ledford GMC dealer awaiting an estimated $4400 repair, before the vehicle is safe to operate on the road. The vehicle has been at the Don ledford dealer since XXX, and is still there today, XXX. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine I believe The truck died while I was doing 78 MPH on the highway Dashboard stated “shift into neutral and press start” I pulled to the side of the road and did what it stated and it would not crank over. I also put it in park turned the vehicle off and back on to try to start it. The lights on the dashboard, all gauges, the AC, and everything works the truck just will not crank over. Check engine light came on but is not throwing any codes

While driving on a divided two lane state highway at approximately 60mph my vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure causing immediate loss of power in traffic at highway speeds. I had to negotiate highway traffic to steer the vehicle onto a narrow shoulder and continue under reduced power to a location where the vehicle could remain stopped safely. There were no warning signs and no warning lights prior to the issue. The vehicle was towed to Faulkner GMC where it was eventually inspected and determined to be an engine failure consistent with the open recall affecting GM 6.2 L87 V8 engines. A replacement engine was installed under warranty. Additionally, a defective tailgate switch was discovered and replaced. A prior unrelated incident had occurred where the tailgate switch activated on its own lowering my tailgate while the vehicle was in motion. The tailgate lowered onto the tongue jack of a trailer I was towing causing damage to the tailgate. This issue occurred multiple times throughout my ownership of the vehicle until the switch was replaced. GM acknowledged the switch was found to be defective but refused to take responsibility for the damage.

I was driving on the highway at 70mph when out of no where my truck stopped running and I received a message warning to put the truck in neutral and restart the engine. It was very alarming being on the highway and this happening. I was unable to restart the vehicle so I had to coast and navigate us at high speed to the should of the highway. Since it was Labor day I had to sit for over 4 hours before getting a tow vehicle at 2am to tow my truck to [XXX] FLOW Buick GMC. They contacted me and told me that my engine had seized and that it was possible bearings or something that made it seize and I need a whole new engine. They quoted me $12,500. I have not done anything yet in repairs and I now contacted GM and submitted a Case #XXX. I notified them I am aware of the known issue and the GM service bulletin PIP5900. I am waiting for them to respond now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Hood Molding- While driving down highway 45 doing about 75 miles per hour the hood molding detached on the driver side and started beating against the hood. I was unable to reach and exit before the entire mood flew off and over car. Fortunately, there were no cars right behind me to cause and accident, except an 18-wheeler about 2 cars back and he ran over the molding. I contacted the dealership and GMC, but they said no recall on this issue. There were a recall 25V-060 for the 2022 (production dates NOV 09, 2021 - SEP 29, 2022). My vehicle production date is 08/19/2022 and they could have been using the same material. I feel this the same safety issue: If a front grille deflector detaches unexpectedly while driving, there is increased risk of a crash. The photo was taken when I got to the first exit to see what happen. You can see the clasps just broke off.

The 6.2 engine in my truck failed while driving and it has been determine that I need a new motor. This motor was on the recall list. I brought it in for the PICO recall test in October we 2025 and it passed. They then changed the oil for a much more expensive 0w40. The engine failed in August leaving me stranded on side of the highway. It has been at the dealership since August 7th. There is no eta on when the new motor and parts will be available because I’m being told that some parts are on back order. I have looked into trading it in and the value of this truck due to the 6.2 engine recall is significantly lower that it should be. It’s half of what I paid for it 3 years ago. I incurred towing fees and Uber fees. I am no without a truck to tow with.

I HAD COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER LESS THAN ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE IN MAY OF 2019 THAT THERE WAS A SHUDDERING NOISE AND THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES AND SEEMS TO LOCK UP AT TIMES. I WAS TOLD IT WAS "JUST HOW THE 8-SPEED TRANSMISSION OPERATES". IT HAS CONTNUED THROUGHOUT OWNERSHIP AND NOW SEEMS TO LOSE POWER AND VIBRATES EXCESSIVELY DURING ACCELERATION.

My vehicle has experienced repeated and unresolved electrical system failures and unexpected loss of power steering assist. The problem involves multiple warning lights, module communication faults, drivability issues, and simultaneous malfunctions affecting systems including power steering, traction control, transmission, four-wheel drive, and other electronic controls. Repair records, diagnostic information, and videos documenting the failures are available for inspection upon request. The most serious incident occurred on August 23, 2026, when the power steering failed unexpectedly while I was driving. The sudden loss of steering assist made the vehicle difficult to control and nearly resulted in a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The failure created a significant safety risk because it impaired my ability to safely steer and control the vehicle. The condition has occurred multiple times over several months and has resulted in repeated dealership visits. Repairs have included replacement an HVAC controller, but the failures have continued. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized dealer, and the manufacturer has been notified through an open support case. As of the most recent repair visit, no confirmed root cause or permanent repair had been identified, and the dealership was still working with engineering support to diagnose the issue. Prior to and during these failures, numerous warning lamps and service messages appeared, including warnings related to power steering, traction control, transmission, four-wheel drive, trailer brake system, steering column lock, and tire monitoring systems. In some incidents, the vehicle entered reduced-performance mode. These warning messages first appeared in November 2025 and have continued intermittently despite multiple repair attempts. The recurring and unresolved loss of power steering assist while driving creates an ongoing risk of crash or injury.
