Started my truck and the motor started knocking. Had it towed to the dealership and they said the motor was blown. Luckily I was in the parking lot at work when this happened. If the motor had blown while I was driving either to or from work on the interstate I could have wrecked. There were no warnings prior to the motor blowing up.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rubbing noise when turning the steering wheel. Truck has 8800 miles on it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Wasn’t able to fix on day diagnosed need to order parts. Only vehicle I have. When asked if I can continue to drive I was told if a problem arises to stop?!? Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. They confirm there is a steering gear issue. Parts in order. Was told it’s a big deal and will need it for several days to fix. 8800 miles on truck! Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?no Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps. Noticed it when turning into my garage at lower speeds.

My vehicle started rough with rattling and knocking one morning. I contacted my dealer and made an appointment. I received an appointment for about a week out and did not operate the vehicle until that day. Upon bringing the vehicle to the GMC maintenance shop, the vehicle’s engine ceased and had to be towed the remainder of the trip.

Purchased the vehicle 300 miles away. Flew out, picked up the truck and drove it home. Got back Saturday night. Woke up Sunday morning to review the features, etc. Noticed a major oil leak. Called the dealership I purchased it from. They told me to take it to a (local) dealership. I took it to my local dealership. They looked at the vehicle. Initially they thought it was a faulty valve cover gasket. They ordered the parts. When they actually started taking the vehicle apart, the issue was not the valve gasket but the crack in the valve cover itself. They replaced the valve cover. It went to the dealer on date 03/03/2025 and they gave he vehicle back to me on 03/21/2025. They said this crack had to of happened on the production line but before it got delivered to the initial dealership.

- #11649900March 22, 2025SERVICE BRAKES
The brake system failed in a parking lot three times within a month. It’s related to the special policy and recall regarding the vacuum and the loss of brakes at slower speeds and in reverse. The first two accidents were very minor creating no damage. The third one was at 10mph when I lost my brakes and crashed into a concrete barrier in a parking structure causing significant damage to my truck. I did not get injured but I have a wife and two kids that I am so grateful were not in the truck for the third one with major damage. With that being said my son was in the truck the second time it happened when I crashed into a parked vehicle in a parking lot because I was unable to stop which made me very frustrated and worried for my families safety in my truck. The first accident was in a parking lot where I was backing up and lost the brakes and crashed into a building which is my veterinary office causing damage to the building. Therefore after the first crash due to this issue I have decided that driving with my family in the truck is not an option anymore. It is very disappointing that a truck I purchased for the functionality and safety of having my wife and kids in it is no longer safe for passengers or myself in it. This problem is very reproducible and is a major concern for my family and my safety. It was towed to a GMC dealership in Waukesha and is being inspected and they have stated it is reproducible. No warning lamps or messages were indicated for this issue. The truck will next need to get towed to Crash Champions auto body repair to ultimately get repaired which will take another month. All of this is a major inconvenience as I am a full time firefighter and in paramedic school as well. Not having a reliable safe vehicle for an extended period of time has caused great stress and inconvenience to my family. I’m hoping and praying that something can be done about this quickly and promptly to make this right. Thank you.

My truck was part of a GM buyback program where GM Corporation bought the truck back to fix it around Aug 7th 2023 for engine problems. I am reporting this because I do not believe that GM ever reported this to NTSHA. There are also other issues happening at the same time period that should be looked into that may or may not be coincidences. At or before 10,126 miles the truck started having engine lifter and other engine issues. General Motors will not tell me exactly what was done other than lifters according to paperwork supplied. It may have had other issues like a spun bearing but it was never disclosed. Can NTSHA please look into this and information is found, could I please get the records. I asked for the paperwork of what was done while GM owned and troubleshot all the problems. I was told that information is only available to the original owner and I could not have it. It is very frustrating when General Motors Corporate use owner’s personal data as a way to hide what was done and not have to disclose required information. I am asking for service records while General Motors owned it and the service records they did to fix it. I know that there are many more engine problems that are not documented on the vehicle summary. GM will not buy back the truck over a few lifter issues. The truck was later fixed and Art Gamblin Motorsv in Enumclaw Wa, purchased it. I am told it is fixed but have no real paperwork proving this, I was able to purchase an extended warranty just in case. There is also quite a few of battery and electronic issues that do not seem normal with the car as well. The battery was replaced at 10,126 miles at the same time as the engine issues and the battery module was replaced at 29,536 miles. At 29,875 miles and 29,965 some type of communications module and On Star module was replaced. This is the around the same time as the truck was having engine issues and was eventually bought back for what is called “engine noise”.

While driving on highway, during rush hour at [XXX], in the center lane of the highway the engine turned itself off and stopped running. Was traveling with traffic, approximately 70-75 mph, engine turned off the truck started deaccelerating rapidly. Was able to change to the right lane and pull over on to the side of the highway. Truck rolled roughly 100 yards and then stopped. The dashboard lights were on and gave the appearance the truck was running, but it was not. Could not restart the vehicle. Tow track came and had to drag the truck up to the truck bed and then shack it off - when taken to the dealership. Truck could NOT be put in neutral. Truck is current at the dealership. The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 20 MPH and making a left turn, the vehicle shook violently. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle and turned off, and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted, but after shifting into drive(D), and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal "roaring" sound. The contact stopped the vehicle and had the vehicle to be towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the valve body on the transmission needed to be replaced; however, the part to complete the repair was on a national back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact stated that the failure was the second transmission failure. The contact had the transmission replaced in 2024 by the same dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

My motor seized and shut off while driving 63 mph on a busy highway going up hill. Truck made it to the top of the hill before it shut off and had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. No warning lights or anything. Rpms locked at 3000 and wouldn’t go up or down until the motor shut off. Switched itself to neutral while it was rolling still and wouldn’t allow my to put the truck in park when stopped. Finally locked itself in park and wouldn’t allow to be shifted to neutral. Dealership said the motor seized and ordered a new one but is on back order

Replaced the exhaust tail pipe tip past the DPF and warning light came on after miles of driving. Vehicle was locked up and only able to drive 55 Mph and there was a countdown to it dropping even lower. Dangerous to limit speed. This shouldn’t happen anyway with just changing out exhaust tailpipe. Very costly unnecessary repair

Was driving down the main highway in town when the truck suddenly shut off. No lights, no warning. Had the truck towed to the dealership and called my insurance company as I had recently had the fenders and hood repaired after having a fender bender in my front yard. The insurance company looked at the truck and inspected the motor and told me the motor had locked up. They said this was a common issue with the motor for my truck and they wrote a report about it. I emailed the CEO of GMC and requested help since my truck was just over the mileage that warranty would cover. Her assistant contacted me and agreed to check out the vehicle, investigate and determine a cause and see if they can supply assistance. After 6 months of investigating, they determined the crankshaft broke, but also told me the valves was a major contributor to that cause. They offered to discount the cost of a replacement motor. I declined, so they discounted it further. I declined again and they offered me one final offer of $7500 before tax for a motor and install. I had a quote from another local company for $6000 and told them no again. Her assistant said they could no further help me. I have the documents from my insurance when they investigated and I have the emails I sent but only 1 response from them. The rest of the communications was over the phone. It’s been a year and half and I still don’t have a running truck, but I have a 800 a month truck payment that I have to pay.

On the morning of March 12, 2025, I started experiencing a ticking sound from the engine bay under throttle. I suspected lifter failure and decided to proceed to the dealership that afternoon for repairs. During my commute, the engine started squealing and shuddering and I experienced a severe loss of acceleration which made it almost unsafe to drive on the highway. Upon coming to a stop in traffic, the engine died. I was able to get it restarted and proceeded to continue my trek to the dealership. Upon another traffic stop, the engine died again, at which point I made the decision to exit the highway and continue my journey along the service road. Twice more the engine died when coming to a stop and the 4th time it struggled to restart. I finally decided to pull into a parking lot and as I was backing into a parking space, the engine died its final time and would not crank/turn over. To make matters more difficult, the transmission would not even shift out of "PARK" into "NEUTRAL" for it to be laoded onto a tow truck. Each time I tried to shift out of "PARK" I received a message stating "Conditions for shift not met"

I had my 6.2 engine replaced at 26,000 miles and the transmission rebuilt. The engine was contaminated with metal shavings and the transmission rebuilt for internal defects. The new engine is running fine but the reliability is a concern after reading about other customers having the same problems. My name is [XXX] . The engine replacement and transmission repair was done at Ed Martin GMC in Carmel Indiana. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving down the highway pulling a trailer the truck started to slow down rapidly. We were able to pull to the side of the road before the truck came to a complete stop on its own. From that point forward, we could not get the truck to move forward even in 4WD. Ended up towing the truck back and a repair shop determined the transmission needed replaced. About 4 months later, we received notice of a recall describing a similar scenario. I submitted the invoice and documentation to GM, but my claim was denied because the codes and symptoms did not match the criteria for the recall.
